Disney Confidential - XPass is coming sooner than you think

Here there guys and gals Anonymouse here. I hope everyone had a great holidays!

Today’s Disney Gossip is something we have talked about before here on Chip and Co. While I am not a fan because going to Walt Disney World is something we have to save up for and can only manage to get to our home away from home once a year, those with deep pockets are going to like the news.

It seems Disney is getting ready to roll out XPass in 2012. What is XPass you might ask?

For a hefty ransom Disney will offer WDW Guests the opportunity to pre-book an entire vacation’s worth of rides on the Resort’s most popular attractions as well as guaranteeing these high-end customers a primo reserved viewing spot for theme park parades and/or nighttime extravaganzas like “Illuminations” and  “Fantasmic!”

So depending on how deep your pockets are and how much of a Chip Planning Nerd you are, you could plan out your whole vacation from behind your computer screen before you even step foot in the parks. If I only knew someone who did that now….

If you want to read more about this head over to Jim Hill Media. Now I am not 100% certain this is a real article as JHM likes to pull peoples legs. Although we have been known to share information about upcoming things at Walt Disney World. For example the Fast Pass for Fast Pass.

While I am not to crazy about this option I want to hear what you think. Let me know in the comment box below.

Anywho that is all the Disney Gossip I have right now. For my past Gossip articles be sure to check them out here.

Anonymouse searches the internet, annoys cast members, and wouldn’t think twice about using a Ouija board to find you the freshest Disney Gossip. Some of what she’ll report is confirmed, some is based on information from the rumor mill, and some, frankly, she just read on the bathroom wall in Fantasyland. So take it with a grain of salt and have fun!

  1. I don’t think that people who choose to pay for this (or for things like concierge-level rooms either, for that matter) are “better” than I, I just think that they’re snobbier than I!

  2. Grr this just ticks me off. Walt Disney wanted a place where the whole family could play together at the same time, right? He resented having to sit on a bench and wait while his young kids rode a carousel. Well, I am pretty sure he was thinking of his own demographic. What was his demographic? He was (IMHO) upper-middle class. Now many, many people of all stripes visit Disney World. I feel that this goes along with concierge-level accomodations, it’s just elitist and divisive. I don’t like it at all. When I’m at DW, I like to think of it as a microcosm but in a clean and safe venue. Elitism just doesn’t belong. Disney, learn from the majority of your visitors, PLEASE.

  3. I have read a number of different stories on this Xpass. Some say it will be very expensive and some say that it will be free to those staying at one of the Disney Resorts. Does anyone really know yet what the cost will be for this experiment?

  4. Universal has VIP passes for all of their guests who stay at one of their resorts. They also sell a limited number of VIP passes each day to guests who do not stay at their resorts. Sea World also allows their guests to go to the front of the lines and they too sell a limited number of “go to the front of the line” passes each day so I am a little confused as to why people don’t think Disney should do the same for their resort guests. If I read it right Universal does not charge extra for this as long as you stay at their resorts so if Disney were to do the same thing I don’t understand what is the big deal?

  5. Hmmm, hasn’t Disney always done that sort of thing for celebrities? You’d never see Lady Gaga standing in line for splash mountain! I think it’s the same sort of thing, but now Disney is charging for it. I don’t see x-pass affecting my Disney experience. I can’t afford it and I don’t think that many people can.

  6. One of the reasons I hate universal studios is because of their fast pass. So those that can afford to pay more money get to jump the lines?? Hate it!! I always tell people disneys speed pass is a much more fairer way if doing this!

  7. I don´t like XPass at all. That is not what Walt Disney envisioned. Catering for the rich is ok but it shouldn´t be at regular guests expense. So now you can forget about making your way to your favorite spot, because it’s reserved for somebody better then you. Just another example of the middle class getting dumped on. This will not go over very well with the masses. Walt Disney Company should be ashamed of themselves. Being middle class is not good enough for them anymore.

  8. We went to WDW for our honeymoon in Sept. 1995. After getting past the Sun. and Mon. of Labor Day weekend it was great – pretty much no lines on anything ( and this was before Fastpass was instituted). Don’t want to pull the kids out of school for a Sept. trip so I guess my husband and I will have to wait for a September vacation after they all graduate!

  9. It is part of a business and I understand it, its about money… And for the most part it doesn’t bother me, the part that does is (if this is true) stuff like its a small world where a charcter an xpass person makes will appear on a screen and just interact with person who created it… (again not sure how true) I am ok if they are willing to pay more to get more magic, I very much disagree when that magic comes st the expense of all the other boys and girls in a ride who don’t get a character popping up and talking to them… At that point you are requiring the non xpass people to watch them enjoy a perk…

We work hard (as do most people) to afford a nice family vacation (which is not cheap by any means) that is just not a service that I see worth adding on to my 4000 dollar bill… I am sure lots will, and to them I hope they enjoy the extra special experience , but if it is at the expense of my family Disney will be receiving a letter.

  10. I’ve already experienced something at the Disney parks that’s similar to x-pass, it’s called September. Its the cheapest time of the year to go and you can do 15 attractions in the Magic Kingdom before lunch. The average visitor won’t even be aware x-pass is happening.

  11. This will have very little impact on most people. Would someone really notice waiting a couple of extra minutes on line? Doubtful. But if you can afford the x-pass (I cannot) you’ll have such a wonderful experience while not really impacting us, the masses.

  12. I agree with the previous two posters- I feel Disney is making a mistake with this choice. The people who can afford “more” DO already have more choices- nicer hotels, monorail service, better pools and food choices, etc. But once guests hit the parks I feel like we were all treated the same, with GREAT Disney customer service. The line for the “haves” and the “have nots” were kept OUT of the parks- it was limited to hotel choice. And as much I would LOVE to take my family to WDW AND stay at the Polynesian (my favorite) it is TOTALLY out of our budget range. I’m ok with that because I pay for a WDW experience for the parks, not the hotels, and I GET that when I go. But if Disney moves forward with this then it effects the entire experience and what we pay a LOT for. I am really hoping they change their mind about this. I know money buys everything in our country, but I hope Disney takes a step back and looks at the MAJORITY of their loyal fan base families and makes the right choice- for the families AND themselves.

  13. I feel this really discriminates against us who do not have deep pockets. Now Disney is really putting a price tag on EVERYTHING!! For how much they charge for park ticket admission, I should have the same opportunity to experience the rides as everyone else. This really is going to put the “regular” guest at a disadvantage. I am really disappointed in Disney.

  14. I don’t think it’s good, because now they will say “oh you can’t stand here for the parade it’s reserved” “sorry you can’t get on this ride for because it’s reserved for the next 4 hours” it will come to the point that everything will be reserved for the people who pay big money however much this option will cost and then the people who just show up or don’t or can’t reserve will be left out and will only be able to get on things or do things at certain times then it will be extra crowded. Money Talks. I hope they really aren’t going to do this. I think they should just leave it as it is.
