Hey there guys and gals! It’s me… Anonymouse and I have been searching up and down and had my ear to the ground listening for some juicy new tips for you. Of course with all that work, I have stumbled upon something very interesting!
Word on the street (Main Street of course!) is that wristbands are going to be replacing tickets at Disney’s theme parks! What you say? How is that…seems like a reverse in technology, right? Well these are special (magical even!) wristbands that are going to take some of the headaches away from keeping up with those tickets. How do we know this…well the reason we know that this change is in the works is because Disney filed documents recently with the FCC asking for approval for a wristband that will be used for admission privileges to major theme parks like Walt Disney World in Florida and Disneyland in California. Seems pretty legit…right?
Anyway, these bands can be worn throughout the day and are designed to be disposable as well as waterproof (think Splash Mountain)! The bands also communicate with a 2.4GHz spectrum (whatever that means…ask Chimp, he is good with that stuff). The other selling points of the band is that they can be personalized with a specific name, so helping Disney keep in check that tickets are non-transferable; and there will be some interaction with FastPass and the next generation of FastPass.
There is also a possibility that the band will be your key to your hotel room at Walt Disney World, basically it could replace the whole Keys to the World card.
Sounds pretty cool but I am sure there is a downside….what do you think? Will it be a good system? Let me know in the comments below!

I’m not sure I like this idea, yes it would be easier than keeping up with a ticket; however, I can’t imagine wearing something on my wrist for multiple days in the heat & humidity. Someone else already pointed out how would this work with the dining plan. Lets face it everyone can keep up with their smartphone so keeping up with a ticket shouldn’t be that difficult.
I dislike wearing anything on my wrist. Also, as an AP holder what will this mean for me? Will I now have to go to Guest Services and show my ID every time I visit the parks to get a new wristband for the day? That would be a time-consuming inconvenience for me.
Not liking the idea. I do wear a wristwatch, but most people don’t. I wouldn’t want to have to wear it for several days at a time. I have a handicapped brother who will not wear anything. For Mickey’s Halloween Party at Disneyland, my dad or mom has to wear his wristband along with theirs and explain it to every CM and it is a real pain. I also agree with the other comments about FP. Not being able to give all the tickets to one person to get FP for the family.
Convenient yes but they will always need to offer another option because some people just won’t be able to wear them for whatever reason.
This is something I have been hoping for for a long time. I hate worrying about all the tickets. Big plus if they use RFID tech so you can just hold up your wrist for a fast pass. It could then hold your fast pass info in it as well. That would be so nice.
so much easier and less chance of losing them or them getting wet in your shorts in the pool or water park. Its a no b rainer
It sounds similar to what they use on the Disney cruise for children. My girls wore wristbands with a plastic casing on them- bigger than a watch. There was a computer chip inside the casing so they got scanned when we took them into the kids club, they could tell exactly where they were in there, and they were scanned on the way. Our girls didn’t seem to mind them but they were not the prettiest thing in pictures. Plus wearing them more than a couple days would be uncomfortable.
Holiday World has wristbands that can be loaded with money & then used instead of cash or credit cards. If that was a feature of the Disney wristbands you wouldn’t even have to carry any money to the parks.
They have wrist bands like this at Great Wolf lodge. My whole family hated it. We only had to wear them for 2 days, I couldn’t imagine wearing it for a 2 week trip! When you start to sweat they stick to your wrist. I saw a lot of teens wearing them on their ankles because the minor bands did not have the RIFD chips in them. But at Disney I would assume they would have to have them on their wrist, my little one will be complaining like crazy!
If it replaces the KTTW card – how will that work with the dining plan?
My son will hate it. He hates anything like that on his arm. I can see other kids fighting wearing the wrist band as well. Hopefully they would be more comfortable then the wrist bands you get when you go to your local state fair. Those things cut into your arm. Unfortunately it would also mean that every member of your group would have to be with you to get a fastpass unlike now when one person can get fastpasses for the whole family.
Hate wearing things around my wrist. Not going to be fun for me.
These sound cool, but I usually keep my old park tickets to decorate my desk. Don’t know if a wristband will work for that…
Don’t know how to get FP’s for a whole family at once with wristbands, but maybe the next gen FP system will solve that…
Downside could be for annual pass holders. Longevity of the pass and ease of carrying with you while not in the parks.
