Disney Confidential – Gossip and Rumors for May 20th, 2010
Please welcome Anonymouse, our newest contributor. Anonymouse searches the internet, annoys cast member friends, and wouldn’t think twice about using a Ouija board to find you the freshest gossip from Walt Disney World. Some of what she’ll report is confirmed, some is based on information from the rumor mill, and some, frankly, she just read on the bathroom wall in Fantasyland. So take it with a grain of salt and have fun!
Okay, enough of the intro. Let’s get started.
The characters from the movie Up are no longer available in the Studios, but rumor has it they’ll show up in the next few months at Animal Kingdom. Given the popularity of the movie, I’d be shocked if they didn’t appear somewhere.
I’ve heard from a number of sources that cast members over at Bay Lake Towers are unhappy with the condition of the rooms. Remember how gorgeous BLT was when it opened?
The dark furniture and lighter fabrics are pretty and give the resort a more modern, luxurious look, but they’re showing a lot of wear, not even two years into use. These complaints echo what we’ve been hearing from Disney Vacation Club owners, who’ve reported ripped upholstery, scratched tables, and an overall worn look to the rooms. We know these cast members take a lot of pride in their resort and that this is unacceptable to them. Could a refurbishment of the rooms be just around the corner?
Last year Disney offered the Free Dining Promotion for late August until early October and then extended it until mid-December. People are watching to see if this will happen again this year. Well, I’ve got some bad news. I’m taking Bob Iger at his word when he says that this last promotion will be the last major one to come out for a while. Adds a well-placed, anonymous source: “It ain’t gonna happen, folks.” So don’t expect free dining to be offered again this year. If I’m wrong, I owe you a Dole Whip.
There have been rumors for the last couple of years that a Monster’s Inc. roller coaster is being added to Hollywood Studios. Recent activity around Soundstage 1 and comments from Jim Hill have added fuel to the fire. On the accuracy scale, you don’t get much higher outside of Disney than Jim Hill, so we’re going with this one. Monter’s Inc. will open sometime in 2011-12, just in time for Monster’s Inc., 2, the movie.
Probably the biggest kerfluffle in the Disney community this week (here, here, and here in the comments section) has been the report that Le Cellier will be switching from a one table service credit restaurant to a siganture restaurant, thus requiring two credits. I’ve generally found that Disers are pretty good sources, so I’m going with this one based on the cast member comments as well. The question is, when? And how much warning will diners get? Personally, I think it could be a step in the right direction. Everyone loves Le Cellier, but think of what it could be like as a signature restaurant. I just hope those who already have ADRs get ample warning so they can change them if it’s not in their budget.
This is funny and true! John Stamos was one of many guests evacuated from a Disneyland resort this morning due to a fire in one of the kitchens. Tweeted John: “Saw nakedness I shouldn’t have seen.” Hmm. Full House, indeed.
Speaking of celebrities who like Disney, did you know that the lovely and witty Tina Fey was spotted at Disney World several times a couple of weeks ago? It seems Ms. Fey has a weakness for Disney World, where she is a frequent guest, and often puts subtle Disney props into her show.
And like magic, they were both in the Magic Kingdom at the same time!
Do you know what this means? Well, John Stamos was in two Disney parks within weeks of each other. This means he’s a huge Disney nerd and loves Chip and Co . . . well he could. I wonder if he’s a pin trader? Maybe John Stamos can use his magical handsome man superpowers to help resurrect Mousefest?
Okay. Maybe not.
That’s all for today. Please email me if you have a tip, Anonymouse@chipandco.com.
