Sunday night at Disney Springs, Amanda Soto, 33, was arrested for disorderly intoxication. Soto is the wife of U.S. Rep. Darren Soto.
Soto and her mother were spotted by Orange County Sheriff’s Deputy Cory Heller at the West Side bus loop. The arrest report stated that Soto was holding the straps of her mother’s backpack to keep her from walking away.
It was also reported by a security guard, that Soto and her mother were aggressive to one another.
Upon arriving at the scene, Heller assisted the two women in calling an Uber since they both appeared to be intoxicated. Once the Uber arrived, Soto started shouting profanities at both the driver and Deputy Heller.
Soto was then handcuffed and put into the back of a patrol car, where Heller reported, “she began banging [her] head against the window in what appeared to be an attempt to harm herself. Amanda was further restrained for her safety”.
At 10:44 Sunday night, Soto was booked into jail and then later freed on bond. This is a second-degree misdemeanor charge against her.
In a police report, Heller stated, “It should be noted that I attempted to calm Amanda numerous times from her agitated state and that even while attempting to speak with her she continued to utter that her husband is a congressman, therefore, she can do whatever she wants”.
Darren Soto stated that as part of her treatment plan, Amanda had stopped taking the medication she had been using for years to treat her depression.
Soto also said, “Yesterday, she drank too much and reached an argumentative state with a family member, which led to arrest […] She deeply regrets her actions and takes full responsibility for them. Amanda and her physician will be reviewing her mental health treatment, immediately.’’
This was the second high-profile arrest at Disney World this past week. YouTuber Jason Ethier (ImJayStation) was also arrested on charges of trespassing and resisting arrest without violence.
