Club 33

Platinum membership holders for Club 33, the exclusive, private club within Disneyland,  were feeling not-so-magical when they received letters saying their dues would increase, and benefits would decrease. Platinum members had been accustomed to receiving 4 VIP cards – which allowed members access to Club 33 (the only venue to sell alcohol at Disneyland), the 1901 lounge at Disney’s California Adventure, complimentary valet parking, and park access, including early entry benefits. All of these perks came with platinum members annual dues payment of $11,000.

The letters these highest level members received indicated that dues payments would be raised to $12,000 per year, and that in return members would receive only 2 VIP cards – with access to Club 33 and 1901 – and 4 Disneyland Premier (annual) Passports. Premier Passports permit unlimited access with no blackout dates for Disneyland, Disney California Adventure, as well as all 4 Walt Disney World Parks (Magic Kingdom, Epcot, Hollywood Studios, and Animal Kingdom), water parks at Walt Disney World – Blizzard Beach and Typhoon Lagoon, the Disney Quest Interactive Indoor Theme Park at Orlando’s Downtown Disney, Walt Disney World’s Oak Trail Golf Course, and the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex. While these Passports do offer complimentary parking at theme parks, valet parking is not included.

Further angering Club 33 members is the rumor that a public restaurant may be coming to the New Orleans Square area of Disneyland, slated to occupy a former private dining room of Club 33 (this dining room was closed during a recent remodel), which will serve similar dishes to those found in Club 33, and will serve alcoholic beverages.

Some Club 33 members have said that it seems to have become just a money game for Disney. What are your thoughts? Would you continue a membership with raised dues and decreased benefits?

  1. If a public restaurant is opening that is a copy of Club 33, then why bother paying $11,000 a year? It was the uniqueness of Club 33 that made it worth the money.
