Epcot World Showcase Best Kept Secrets – Germany

Epcot World Showcase Best Kept Secrets – Germany

As we continue our journey through the World Showcase, leaving Italy and their wonderful pizza we find ourselves in Germany. Many people that travel to Epcot think that Germany is nothing but beer and bratwurst, but there is so much more. Let’s see what else we can find that is a little known or surprising fact of Germany.

  • The Germany Pavilion is designed to look like a German town, but with architecture from different eras and regions. The Platz (square) is decorated with a statue of St. George and the Dragon and a clock tower. The Biergarten, at the rear of the courtyard, sells traditional German food. The pavilion also has numerous small shops selling German goods, including dolls and cuckoo clocks.
  • In the courtyard, you can look up towards the back and see a clock tower. At the top of the hour, it will ring and German boy and gilr will come out and twirl around. (don’t worry they are made of wood). Sometimes the clock is off a few minutes, so you have to wait for it.

Disney Attack Plan – Radiator Springs Racers

Disney Attack Plan Radiator Springs Racers

Vroom, Whoosh, Screech, Vroom… When I think of Cars and specifically Radiator Springs Racers these are the sounds I hear in my head. It’s okay if you don’t hear the same things. You might want to get it looked into though. Amongst the many attractions you’ll find in Cars Land, Radiator Springs Racers is by far the most popular. You’ll need to have a plan of attack to get on this ride!

It’s not uncommon to be in line at Radiator Springs Racers for upwards of 2 1/2 hours on a slower park day. Here’s a tip though, get to the park early! When I say early, I mean before the park even opens. Head over to Buena Vista Street entrance half hour or more before park opening. You’ll be able to get into the park around 30 minutes before official opening. Once in California Adventure, send one person from your group to get the Fast Passes at Radiator Springs Racers, while the rest of you hit up the new Starbucks.

Radiator Springs Racers is the most popular attraction in Cars Land, and honestly in all of California Adventure currently, and there are days when the entire allotment of Fast Passes are gone within the first hour or so of park opening. You’ll be sorry if you don’t get those Fast Passes early!

Quick tip for those with toddlers, make sure you have them measured up first. The ride height minimum is 40 inches. In addition to the ride height requirement, know that the ride is fast, there are dips and hills, quick turns and speed. These can be scary to some kids, so know your toddlers limits. If your children are anything like mine, they will expect to be the “winner” every time they ride. This won’t happen, so prep them early to know that there is no set car that will “win” every time. You’d have as much luck figuring out how many drops and how far the Tower of Terror will have. There are a few moments of stomach drops as you experience roller coaster like “flying” and “near misses” along the way. These can be scary for most younger kids, but generally if they enjoy rides such as Big Thunder Mountain Railroad, they’ll be just fine on Radiator Springs Racers.

One last tidbit that you should know is that much like it’s cousin, Test Track, in Walt Disney World, this ride will break down and break down often. Much of the long line can be attributed to those holding out hope for the ride to be fixed and quickly return to operation. Unfortunately  the ride hasn’t gotten the bugs worked out completely so be prepared to entertain the kids, and adults, in your group for possible extended periods of time.

Overall, take the time to enjoy Radiator Springs Racers and all of Cars Land. you’ll find there is plenty to do and if you can swing it, ride the racers twice. Hit it once during the day and again at night for two completely different experiences. Whatever you do, you do not want to miss Cars Land during your visit!

I hope you find this information fun, new and worthwhile.

Epcot’s World Showcase Best Kept Secrets – France

Epcots World Showcase Best Kept Secrets France

After a nice, leisurely stroll through the gardens or some fish and chip at Rose and Crown Pub we continue our tour around the World Showcase looking for hidden gems in France.

  • The footbridge leading you from UK to France is a representation of the Seine waterfront, complete with flower carts and even streetside artists and the bridge is inspired by Pont des Arts.
  • The Tower is 1/10th the size of the actual tower and was built following the blueprints of the Gustave Eiffel.

The Eiffel tower is the only thing in the World Showcase that can’t be reached by the general public.

  • Be on the lookout for street performers, they are very enlighting and show up through out the day.

It makes for a good break in the day to sit back with a nice glass of champagne (or french wine) and fresh croissant from the amazing bakery and enjoy the street performers.

  • Want to share in a tale “as old as time” Belle and her furry prince can often be seen greeting guests in the garden (check map for times)

Other characters of a french descent are known to appear here as well including Marie from the Aristocrats, characters from The Hunchback of Notre Dame, and sometimes even Princess Aurora from Sleeping Beauty has been known to appear.

  • While perusing the shops you may come across Belle’s Library, make sure you spend a few minutes enjoying the decor. There are many references to classic Disney tales, shelves lined with favorite stories, knickknacks like gargoyles from Hunchback and even the rose from Beauty and the Beast.

You can also see a beautiful stained glass mosaic representing the beginning of the movie Beauty and the Beast here.

  • They have a really good “adult” slushie that is made with Grey Goose Vodka and Grand Marnier at the wine kiosk if you are looking for something cold to cool you off.
  • As you complete your romantic tour of France and head toward Morocco you might notice the pavement between the two changes. This is to symbolize the Straits of Gibralter.

Have you ever had a chance to meet Belle and her prince here? Did you happen to catch any of the other characters  or the street shows? What did you think of them? Join us next time as we explore Morocco and find all the hidden secrets there.
