Happy New Year!

The start of the new year always brings about change and on the heels of the “big news” that was announced on New Year’s Eve for Disney parks let’s not forget what Disney Cruise Line is up to in 2012!

So what’s going to be new in 2012?

• New ports
• A new ship
• New destinations

New ports include New York, Seattle and Galveston and there will be continuing departures from Los Angeles (to the Mexican Riviera) and Port Canaveral (3 and 4-night cruises to the Bahamas).

The newest ship in the Disney fleet, the Disney Fantasy, will leave port for her maiden voyage on March 31. Although the Fantasy is the sister ship to the Dream, there will be all new experiences on board. including “Wishes”, the Muppets Adventure Game, Aqua Lab, Europa, Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique and Animation Magic.

New destinations are also on the horizon for Disney Cruise Line, some old favorites are back as well as new destinations that are bound to become fan favorites.

For the first time ever, The Disney Wonder will set sail on 14 and 15-Night cruises to Hawaii with stops at Hilo, Maui, and Oahu and Kauai.

The Disney Wonder will also embark from Seattle to Alaska with stops at Tracy Arm, Skagway, Junea and Ketchicikan, you can also add Adventures by Disney excursions to your Alaskan cruise to make the most of your time in this beautiful territory.

The Disney Magic will reposition in September and head to Texas for departures from Galveston. The Magic will cruise the Western Caribbean itineraries to Grand Cayman, Cozumel and Costa Maya.

There are 5-night cruises from New York up the New England coast to Canada with stops in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Saint John and New Brunswick. Also departing from New York are 8-night Bahamas cruises-perfect for a land and sea vacation with a visit to Walt Disney World! There are also 2-night weekend getaway cruises from New York for those pressed for time but in need of a vacation.

7-Night Pacific Coast cruises stop in San Francisco and San Diego and offer excursions to famous California landmarks and regions like Sonoma Wine Country.

As previously announced, Disney Cruise Line has cancelled four of it’s December 2012 sailings to the Mexican Riviera and Disney Cruise Line has yet to tell us why. As soon as we have official information from DCL you’ll be the first to know!

2011 will be a year of “Disney dream vacations,” both figuratively and literally.  Guests will be making memories over the horizon in Egypt, Hawaii and Alaska, on the aqua waters of the Bahamas, under the sea, over croc and rhino gullies and beyond the solar system.

Disney Vacation Club says ‘Aloha’ (scheduled to open Aug. 29, 2011) – Aulani, a Disney Resort & Spa, Ko Olina, Hawai′i that includes traditional hotel rooms and Disney Vacation Club villas, is being built on 21 acres of oceanfront property in Ko Olina, approximately 30 minutes from Waikiki.  Aulani draws its inspiration from the traditions and heritage of the people of Hawaii.  Walt Disney Imagineers, with the help of local architects, artisans and historians, are weaving Hawaiian stories into the buildings, interiors, art and gardens of the resort.  Upon completion, Aulani will include 359 traditional hotel rooms and 481 two-bedroom equivalent Disney Vacation Club villas with views of the ocean, mountains and the lush grounds.  More information about Aulani is available by visiting www.disneyaulani.com.

Peeking over the “boards” to a reimagined Fantasyland – The largest expansion project in Magic Kingdom history is underway at Walt Disney World Resort, featuring attractions and experiences in an area that will nearly double the size of Fantasyland.  The Walt Disney World project began in early 2010 and will be completed in phases with most new experiences open by 2013.

A nationally projectable survey of kids between 6-17 years of age conducted by Ypartnership, the travel service marketing company headquartered in Orlando, has revealed how and where kids’ best vacation memories are formed, as well as their favorite ways to record and share them.
Vacations taken with parents and siblings were cited as the “most awesome” by kids. The most frequently mentioned were either a religious retreat (27%) or theme park vacation (26%). And underscoring the yearning most kids have to spend quality time with their parents, the most memorable aspect of these vacations was simply spending time with family.
Theme parks and cruises top the list of kids’ dream vacation destinations. Specifically, 83% want to go to Walt Disney World Resort and 77% are interested in taking a cruise.
And as if we didn’t already know, KIDS RULE, both at home and while on vacation. Just over eight out of ten (81%) help plan what the family does and where the family dines out; nearly 7 in 10 help plan where to go and what to do on vacation.
The kids also identified the way in which new technology has influenced the manner in which they “memorialize” vacation memories. Digital photography and postings “in real time” on social media websites and blogs top the list. Souvenirs also play an important role in the recall of vacation memories, mentioned by almost half of kids (47%), second only to taking digital photos (69%).
Reminiscent of that old Art Linkletter Show “Kids Say The Darndest Things,” the kids who participated in the survey also shared the upsides and downsides of vacationing with the family:

A total of 615 children from across the U.S. participated in the survey, which was commissioned by Walt Disney Parks & Resorts. 64% of respondents took at least one vacation with both parents and siblings last year; 19% with one parent and siblings. All statistical estimates have an error interval of less than 2% at the 95% level of confidence.

At the Imaginerding HQ (our home), we are huge fans of Phineas, Ferb Perry, Doofenshmirtz, Isabella, Baljeet, Buford, Jeremy, Candace, Major Monogram and Carl! Oh yeah, and the parents.

In addition to the main episode, there are four other Perry-related episodes on the disc (Interview with a Platypus; Oh, There You Are, Perry; Chez Platypus; Perry Lays an Egg). The Boys is about the Sherman Brothers, two of the most prolific songwriters to ever work for Disney: Mary Poppins; The Enchanted Tiki Room; There’s a Great, Big, Beautiful Tomorrow; and the non-Disney Chitty Chitty Bang, Bang. Waking Sleeping Beauty follows the rebirth of Disney Animation (Little Mermaid, Beauty and the Beast) into what has been called the second great Golden Age.

Exploring the Exotic

Adventures by Disney Introduces an Exciting Lineup of Value Itineraries Featuring Exclusive Access and More ‘On Your Own Time’ for Travelers

Adventures by Disney, named the World’s Leading Luxury Tour Operator by the 2009 World Travel Awards, adds a new line of itineraries to its award-winning list of family vacations for summer 2010. Known as the Gateway Collection, these itineraries provide guests with more time on their own to explore the destinations and sites at their leisure.  In conjunction with the added time, travelers receive the benefits of Adventures by Disney’s highly-trained Adventure Guides who are the concierges for each trip and are always available to provide recommendations and schedule reservations so guests receive the most during their vacation.
