Disney DIY – Make Your Own Vinylmation Holder

IMAG0384 1 338x400 Disney DIY Make Your Own Vinylmation Holder %tag

I had this epiphany that I could use a spice rack as a cute way to display my Vinylmation in my Disney kitchen.  Went out to Michael’s Arts & Crafts only to find that they don’t sell unfinished spice racks (LOL). So I improvised.  And about 10 minutes and $12 later I came home with this stuff:

IMAG0377 400x239 Disney DIY Make Your Own Vinylmation Holder %tag

I used a Shadow Box that was made to create your own checker or chess board, some wooden sticks that were just slightly higher quality and thickness of paint stirrers, a cute cuteout that said “Imagine”, and paint

I am both an impatient and impulsive crafter so I used acrylic paint to paint what would become my shelving (the wooden sticks) and then took the paint outside to paint the shadowbox.  I then repeated painting each to get a second coat in.

I then did the same thing with the first layer of clear coat (with the exception of bringing the sticks outside).

The next step was assembly, so I slipped a little crazy glue on the Imagine word and used it to cover an imperfection in the wood.  Then I glued the shelves in with the tiniest bit of Gorilla Glue in the corners to make sure they stayed snug.

I let dry and voila!

Although I still think a spice rack would be an easy fix, since here at Chip & Co we love Top 5s here are some tips for creating your own…

Top 5 Tips for Making Your Own Vinylmatin Holder

(This can also be called 5 Things I Learned From my Crafts Today)

1.  Check the wind before you start spraying clear coat outside.

2.  It is easier to keep your jewelry clean when you take it off PRIOR to painting.  If you leave it on until your hands are filthy it is a bad idea to then take your wedding rings off.

3.  Do not use Slatkin & Co candles as a weight when trying to set Gorilla glue (Lucky for me I had an empty candle jar to slip my Tiki Beach 3 wick candle into after the glass shattered all over the kitchen floor… lol.)

4.  Not all 3″ vinyls are 3″… bring your tallest one with you as a measurement!

5.  Sometimes thumbtacks work just as good as nails (PS- Don’t tell my husband that one!)

Glee’s Star Wars Holiday Special Spoof Starring Chewbacca

Glee Chewbacca Glees Star Wars Holiday Special Spoof Starring Chewbacca %tag

Heads up Star Wars fans! Everyone’s favorite furry star ship co-pilot Chewbacca, will be guesting on the Glee  holiday special airing December 13th. Glee’s Matthew Morrison mentioned in a recent visit to the Jimmy Kimmel Show (see the embedded clip) that he was working on a the show’s mash up of the Star Wars Holiday Special and a Judy Garland Christmas special… hmm… an interesting combination to say the least.

Note that Peter Mayhew, the original actor who played Chewbacca in the Star Wars films, is NOT playing the Wookie in this episode but is played by the official actor cast by Lucasfilm to do special appearances.

Be sure to tune into Glee: “Extraordinary Merry Christmas” airing Tuesday, December 13th at 8pm on FOX.

Shop like a Diva – Downtown Disney

world of disney2 300x225 Shop like a Diva Downtown Disney %tagWe can’t forget Downtown Disney! Even though we’ve already talked about where to shop in Magic Kingdom, Epcot, Hollywood Studios, and Animal Kingdom, you obviously STILL WANT MORE. Well, I’m not going to disappoint!

Downtown Disney

Obviously, Downtown Disney is the mother-load for Disney Shopping, but it just doesn’t have the same feel to me as shopping in parks. However, If I’m buying its probably at one of these stores:

For anything that I looked at multiple times in the park and never bought – World of Disney. This is LITERALLY the largest Disney character store ON EARTH, and it feels that way. If you are looking for it, and its Disney-fied, then you will find it here. Common purchase for the Divas include kitchen accessories (oven mitts, coffee cups), scarves (best selection of cute, discreet, mickey mouse dresses/scarves where the pattern is cleverly woven-in). I wear my scarves all winter long and people rarely seem to recognize the pattern, costume jewelry – at least one watch, ring, or pair of earrings will always be bought here (unless I already got them at Mouse Gears in Epcot). *Warning, this store is always packed, EXTREMELY EASY TO GET LOST/ SEPEAREATED FROM YOUR FAMILY IN, AND JUST GENERALLY OVERWHELMING* Like I said, different feel from shopping in park. I normally feel more rushed and frantic in World of Disney (so more impulse buys maybe?)

For tweens and/or teens – TrenD Really some super cute and unique things in TrenD. Love some of their Alice-styled things. Mostly has things that my right thigh couldn’t even fit in though, so that’s why I suggested the tweens/teens, but you might just LOVE them!

For SERIOUS Pin Collectors- Disney Pin Traders : If you’re looking for a pin, and its not been retired, you’re likely to find it at the Downtown Disney Pin Traders shop. Its huge huge huge. (I personally don’t do pin trading, but know many people who are obsessed with it. We use them with my son to mark rides he’s been on and collect the ride pins exclusively).

For kitchen accessories – Mickey’s Pantry – I usually get something that can go in my kitchen at Mickey’s Pantry. While our kitchen is in no-way overrun with Disney, there are some things I love like my measuring cups/ spoons, oven mitt, apron, and wine glasses. It’s a good way to bring a little mickey home with you and have something replaced that you “got as a wedding gift 10 years ago”.

For posters/ paintings – The Art of Disney – Each time we leave Magic Kingdom I drool over the vintage ride and movie posters in the exit tunnels. They are simply magnificent and one day I swear I’ll buy one, and when I do I’ll know where I can go to get one – The Art of Disney. They have a touch-screen computer there that allows you to find every kind of Disney art-work you could imagine. If you’d like a beautiful poster or painting, here’s the place to find it.

And there you are Chip & Co. readers, the Disney Diva’s favorite shopping spots at Walt Disney World! Enjoy!
