Cruella de Vil, meet the apprentice sorcerers!

In spring 2012, Disney guests can fly like no elephant (or Disney guest) has ever flown, subdue villains with magic spells, sail the azure waters of the Caribbean aboard a brand-new luxury ship, and settle down for the night in rooms celebrating Disney royalty.

January-May 2012 at Walt Disney World Resort also is a time when road runners take to the streets and byways of the Vacation Kingdom in marquee runDisney events, Major League Baseball returns to Champion Stadium, Epcot blooms and Disney celebrates the possibilities of youth.

Here’s a look at what’s in store …

And you, too, Scar. And, for that matter, a legion of other Disney villains!

When Sorcerers of the Magic Kingdom premieres in early 2012, Merlin the magician will recruit guests as apprentice sorcerers to undertake missions to subdue the “baddies” in what Disney Imagineering calls an “immersive role-playing adventure.”

Armed with what appear to be nothing more potent than cards, guests engage with villains at special locations throughout the park. But the fact is: The cards have magic powers players can use in their quest to defeat the villains.

Ocean Spray Brings the Magic of the Cranberry to the Epcot International Food & Wine Festival

The Walt Disney Company and Ocean Spray two iconic American brands that have captured families’ imaginations and appetites for more than 80 years each — today announced the debut of the first cranberry bog exhibit at Walt Disney World(R) Resort in Lake Buena Vista, Fla., during the 2011 Epcot(R) International Food & Wine Festival from Sept. 30 to Nov. 13.

For cranberry lovers visiting the popular theme park this fall, dreams really do come true as Florida natives and vacationers alike will have the opportunity to be inspired and enlightened by Ocean Spray growers and Disney cast members stationed at the experience, filled with more than 1,500 lbs. of cranberries. In addition, Ocean Spray(R) Craisins(R) Dried Cranberries, the official fruit snack of the Walt Disney World(R) and Disneyland(R) Resorts, will be sampled bogside from on-site kiosks.

From Sept. 30 until Oct. 2, third, fourth and fifth generation Ocean Spray cranberry growers will share the majestic beauty and mystique of the cranberry harvest. With the help of Chef Ming Tsai — host of public television’s Emmy-nominated “Simply Ming” and chef/owner of the award-winning restaurant Blue Ginger — consumers will learn about the unlimited versatility of the cranberry via a cooking demo for park attendees of all ages.

“Three quarters of Americans have never heard of a cranberry bog, never mind witnessed the beauty of the cranberry harvest firsthand,” said Ken Romanzi, Ocean Spray’s chief operating officer, North America. “Through our sponsorship with Disney, we are thrilled to educate a whole new group of people who might not otherwise understand the journey of their favorite Ocean Spray products, like Ocean Spray(R) Craisins(R) Dried Cranberries, from the bog to their favorite recipes.”

Ming Tsai Adds Flavor to Disney

On Oct. 11, Chef Ming Tsai will make a special appearance to whip up an array of worldly cranberry creations celebrating the versatility of the cranberry and the many cuisines and cultures celebrated in the World Showcase at Epcot(R).

“I am very excited to dive into the adventure of the Epcot(R) theme park and inspire families wi

New Disney Entertainment at Largest Nighttime Half Marathon

Wine Dine Half Marathon logo 201x91 New Disney Entertainment at Largest Nighttime Half Marathon %tagA capacity field of runners will experience new food and wine options as well as have exclusive access to signature Disney attractions for the first time at the Disney Wine and Dine Half Marathon Weekend, Sept. 29-Oct. 2, at Walt Disney World Resort, further enhancing an event affectionately known as the “ultimate runners night out.”

At the post-race Finish Line Party at Epcot that lasts until 3 a.m., several Epcot attractions will be operating, including Soarin’, Test Track and Mission: Space. Also, there will more than 20 new food and beverage kiosks, bringing the total number to nearly 90, as well as live video feeds of the race on giant monitors.

The new food and entertainment enhancements are designed to further heighten the runner experience and build on the race’s instant popularity. This year, more than 12,500 runners – nearly 2,000 more than last year’s inaugural race – are expected to take part in the unique experience of running through Walt Disney World theme parks at night. The 13.1-mile trek starts at 10 p.m. at ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex and takes runners through Disney’s Animal Kingdom and Disney’s Hollywood Studios before finishing at Epcot during the Epcot International Food & Wine Festival. The event features a relay option which gives runners the opportunity to team up with a partner and each run the course in 4.8-mile and 8.3-mile intervals. Everyone who completes the race receives a finishers’ medal.

Defending champions Anton Van Zyl from Ft. Lauderdale, FL., and Melissa Wisner from Washington, D.C., return, leading a field of runners from all 50 states and 21 countries.

‘We are excited how quickly the popularity has grown for this race with runners across the country and around-the-world. We continue to provide unique opportunities and add new signature entertainment elements to give runners and guests of all ages the ultimate destination running experience.’ — runDisney Manager Kathleen Duran

Fans can purchase tickets to the post-race party at Epcot at www.runDisney.com or at the event’s Health and Fitness Expo at ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex.

In addition to the race and Finish Line Party, the weekend features the Disney Halloween 5K at Disney’s Animal Kingdom and Kids’ Races at ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex, both on Saturday. The Health and Fitness Expo takes place Sept. 30-Oct. 1 inside the Jostens Center at ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex. The expo features the latest in running equipment, products and apparel as well as seminars from running experts – including runDisney training consultant Jeff Galloway.

Today was Media Day for next month’s PGA TOUR golf tournament at Walt Disney World and we revealed the list of celebrities who are expected to play alongside the Tour pros in the pro-am.

It’s a pretty impressive group. Jerome “The Bus’’ Bettis (Pittsburgh Steelers), Alonzo Mourning (Miami Heat), Steve Young (San Francisco 49ers), Johnny Damon (Tampa Bay Rays), Anthony Anderson (Law & Order) and Derrick Brooks (Tampa Bay Bucs) are just a few of the names playing this year in the Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals Classic on Disney’s Palm and Magnolia golf courses. And more are expected to enter before the event, Oct. 20-23.

We also announced today that Joe Ogilvie, a veteran pro, will be one of the four tournament sponsor exemption players competing in the tournament, which is the last TOUR event of the season. The rest of the field will once again be a unique mix of established champions and rising stars, including defending champion Robert Garrigus, all trying to join the likes of Tiger Woods, Vijay Singh and Jack Nicklaus as winners of the tournament.

Fans will notice a few changes this year beyond the fact that the event takes place nearly a month earlier. For example, the popular Wine & Dine feature will be centrally located in one area near the putting green by the clubhouse where fans can sip on fine wines and sample unique international cuisine.

Tournament tickets ($10 single-day and $20 weekly badges) and Wine & Dine tickets ($30) are still available at www.ChildrensMiracleNetworkHospitalsClassic.com or through www.ticketmaster.com.

Hey, if you’d rather play in the tournament rather than just watch, there are still a few spots left in the pro-am. Call (407) 938-3501 to tee it up with Bettis, Young, Damon, Mourning, Anderson and the pros.
