Looking back at Disneyland – from opening day to their 59th birthday

Disneyland's grand opening on July 17, 1955 was definitely less than perfect.  My mother in law was there (her uncle was a contractor who helped build the park) and told me that the asphalt was still wet in places due to the fact that they had poured it that morning and with temperatures hitting 101º it didn't have time to set for the park opening at 4:30 in the afternoon. Nick Arciniaga, originally from Fountain Valley, Calif., won the Disneyland Half Marathon in record fashion Sunday, finishing in 1:07:48. If you required any kind of assistance at Disney then you may know that the card pictured above was the old Guest Assistance Card, which was used before they switched to the new DAS system. I personally think the old system was way better.
