By far, my favorite shop in all of Epcot and arguably all of the Walt Disney World parks is Mouse Gear.  It is the largest shop in Epcot and really I find myself wanting to skip Downtown Disney when I am staying in the Epcot Resort Area since you can find a little bit of everything here!  My favorite Mouse Gear story came this Fall when I decided to grab two vinylmations: Star Wars (hoping for Darth Vader) and Pirates (hoping for Captain Jack) and as luck and Disney magic would have it I scored both!

I hope you all had a chance to watch the premier of ABC Family’s all new TV series “Jane By Design.”  I had a great time watching it and can’t wait to tune in each Tuesday!  The premier was a special night, I had to pay close attention to the television during the episode to take note on what everyone was wearing! Here is the challenge:

“Show me that you can become a trusted fashion source for masses of people who have less style than I do.  Choose one person you have observed and write a “get the look” entry on your blog.  Tell your readers to share their “get the look” tips here and mention the name of your blog.”

Since the show is called “Jane By Design” I chose none other than Jane Quimby herself to study!  She is such a fun character with a very feminine sense of style!  If you liked the outfits Jane wore tonight on Jane By Design, they are really easy and affordable to recreate.  I searched Forever 21 and found several pieces that were very similar to the ones Jane wore!

The running theme I noticed in Jane’s wardrobe is a very feminine feel.  She seemed to always be wearing a skirt, sometimes fitted and sometimes flowey.  She often wore her outfits belted which gives the body a very feminine shape.  The color palate seemed to sport bold colors and I also noticed bold patterns!  I think the looks above replicate outfits that would be in Jane’s closet very well!

This morning I was looking at an old article I wrote as a Christmas Guide for people buying for the nerd in their life.  The first rule of buying for nerds and geeks is that you have to know what kind of nerd you’re dealing with.  Video game nerds, comic nerds, movie geeks, Star Wars, Star Trek, manga, anime, toys, board games, history… there’s a lot.  See, nerd or geek really just means someone who has an obsessive amount of knowledge about a particular subject.  You may even be a geek without knowing it. Even you, guy who makes fun of people who dress up for comic conventions.  All that knowledge of sports statistics that you can and will spout to anyone stuck in a room with you?  NERD.

There’s a whole wide world full of different types of geeks.

That got me to thinking.  If there’s one thing that I’m even more obsessive about than comics, it’s Disney.  Yep, the odds are if you love Disney enough to read Chip and Co, you’re a nerd too.  Some of you nerds may be at WDW right now. Or maybe you’re going soon or planning a trip for next year.  In the spirit of Christmas, you might want to buy presents for those other Disney lovers in your life who won’t be there in the Holiday season.

Here are some suggestions.

• Pins! -  It’s really ingenious of Disney to start the pin craze.  It seems like a cheap souvenir at first.  But then you see another one you want, and another. Then you start staring down cast members like gunslingers, eying those lanyards for cast exclusives.  It gets expensive eventually, but fortunately I’ve been sober 7 years.  The point is, people really like pins.  They’re a no-brainer for gift giving.
• Hot Chocolate – I’m talking about the ones with Buzz Lightyear, Princess Aurora and Stitch on the label. It seems silly to say it, but the pre-packaged Hot Chocolate at WDW is a decent gift.  It tastes great, comes in packs of 3 and turns different colors.
• T-shirts -  I have this thing about t-shirts.  I can’t leave a vacation without a t-shirt.  Unfortunately Disney does nothing to help this addiction.  I always find at least 2 that I want.  You’re sure to find one for someone you love as well.
• Soundtracks – I listen to Disney stations like Sorcerer Radio and MouseWorld Radio all the time.  Part of the reason is that I’ve never indulged myself on the Disney Soundtracks.  Illuminations, Tapestry of Dreams, Wishes, etc.  This is the gift that keeps on giving for someone who loves Walt Disney World
• Zebra Domes!  Someone mentioned the zebra domes they sell at Animal Kingdom Lodge the other day.  I just really want someone to bring me some zebra domes. Or fudge. Ghiradelli maybe?
• Safari gifts – Speaking of AK Lodge, stop by the Zawadi Marketplace for loads of unique African-themed gifts. I found a great elephant statue for my Mom’s birthday on my last trip.
• Picture Frames – People really like giving picture frames, so why not go for the gorgeous ones you find at WDW?
• Crystal Figurines – This is where it gets more expensive.  We’ve all seen the glass cutting shops at Downtown Disney, Mexico Pavillion, Main Street USA, etc.  These make beautiful gifts for a woman in your life.
• Ninja Sword! -  You can buy Chinese swords in EPCOT.  It’s awesome.  I want the ivory handle sword from Highlander with the dragon inlay. Dudes will think this is the greatest Christmas gift ever.   (Not recommended for clumsy people.) There’s also all kinds of other cool gifts in China.
• Art of Disney – Just about anything from Art of Disney is the gift to end all gifts from WDW.  Posters with Walt and Mickey are great.  However, if you’ve got a lot of disposable cash, the paintings are amazing.

Marvel and Disney announced today that they’ll be working together to publish the wildly popular ‘Toy Story’ series in a brand new comic series. With Marvel now part of Disney, this is a great way for Disney to continue telling stories from some of their favorite characters. Here’s hoping that this leads to a relaunch or continuation of the BOOM! Studios Disney Afternoon series featuring ‘Darkwing Duck’, ‘Ducktales’, and ‘Chip and Dale: Rescue Rangers’. All the series just recently wrapped, ending with a crossover between ‘Darkwing Duck’ and ‘Ducktales’ in an arc called ‘Dangerous Currency’. I really like that Marvel and Disney will be working together now to bring us new stories featuring some of the characters. It really shows that Marvel and Disney are working very much in harmony together, and both parties are really benefiting from the merger. Can’t wait to see how the series turns out. Why is it so special? We just got back from our first ever trip to Disney where we were able to see the Osborne Family Spectacle of Dancing Lights. The park closed at 8:00 pm but we hung around the lights for a bit after closing before leaving. I was bummed because I had wanted to stop by one of my favorite gift shops Tatooine Traders but I figured it was closed. Luckily I was wrong.

The store is usually pretty crowded since it also serves as the exit for Star Tours. There were a few people inside but I got to take the time to look around a bit without bumping into other guests. I also had a nice chat with one of the Cast Members working. As I was looking around I found the Santa Yodas and I knew that I had to have him.

He is a cute addition to our Christmas decorations and is a reminder of a really fun night at the Studios.

The original cast of Beauty and the Beast reunites to recount another “tale as old as time” about a Christmas past that almost wasn’t. What is it? My favorite Disney souvenir ever is my zippered hoodie from Walt Disney World’s Epcot.

Why is it so special? I got my Epcot hoodie on our first trip to the World in 2006. We had road tripped to Florida in our rockin’ new minivan, and I discovered that although it was sunny, hot September, the A/C in the van blasts like an arctic freeze. I needed a jacket for the trip home. Each subsequent trip has required an updated look and so began my collection. I now have a zippered hoodie for each Park visit, plus one from the Disney DREAM Christening Cruise, and one Disneyland jacket I got at the Disney Store outlet (ssh! Don’t tell it’s not really from the Park).

Where did you get it? I got my Epcot hoodie at Mouse Gear.

How much did it cost? I think it was close to $50.

What is it? My favorite Disney souvenir ever is my Mouse Ears (complete with my name embroidered on the back) from Disneyland Resort in California

Why is it so special? I guess you could say I was technically a grown up on my first ever trip to a Disney Park.  My (now) husband took me to Disney World when I graduated from college and it has been a torrid love affair ever since! We have gone to Disney World 6 times in the past 6 years and yet it wasn’t until our first trip to Disneyland this summer that I got my first set of Mouse Ears.  I got a Stitch ears headband on our first trip and during the Year of a Million Dreams I got a Minnie Ears headband with the Cinderella-blue bow.  I have tried on (and taken pictures of myself) with countless pairs but I could never decide which ones were THE ears for me in all our time in Disney World.  Then, on our last day of our trip to Disneyland this summer as we walked out of a store I saw the wall of Ears and just knew it was time!

Where did you get it? I got my ears at Paradise Pier’s “Man Hat ‘n’ Beach” shop which is one of the shops connected to the games of the Boardwalk.

How much did it cost? I think the hat itself was $14 and the embroidery was an extra $6

What is it? My favorite Disney souvenir is my Princess Wedding Dance Snowglobe from Walt Disney World in Florida.

Why is it so special? The reason I treasure this snowglobe above all the others in my collection, and among all of my other Disney treasures, is because my mom purchased it as a gift for me during a very special trip. You see, my mom was the one who introduced me to Walt Disney World when I was a teen. My first trip was when I was 15 and my sister, Linda, was 17. Together with my mom and stepdad, we enjoyed an awesome trip.

After my stepdad passed on in August 2003, my mom soon began planning a trip for my family and my sister’s family to go along with her to Walt Disney World as a tribute trip to Louis’ memory. After all, Louis was the whole reason she went to Walt Disney World in the first place, taking her two teenage daughters to tag along.

The trip she planned for all of us in 2004 was a lovely, loving time for each of us. That particular visit to WDW stands out to me for several reasons: it was the first trip I had taken with my mom since I was a teen; it was the first trip I had taken with my sister since we were teens; and my mom and Louis had made an unforgettable trip for us again. What put it on an even grander scale was that our children, our spouses, our mom, my sister and me were all together in the most magical place on earth. It was truly wonderful!

On the last day of our visit, my mother told me she had bought me something special as a remembrance of the trip. The Princess Wedding Dance snowglobe was my gift. It is the most beautiful snowglobe in my collection. It resembles a beautiful wedding cake and displays all the Disney princesses and princes in their wedding attire. When you wind it up, it plays beautiful music as each couple dances to their wedding song. I would have to say that even now, whenever I look at it, it is and always will be one of my most treasured Disney mementos; not only because of the sheer beauty of it but because of the wonderful memories I hold of that special visit. I am so thankful that I am blessed to have this treasure to enjoy for all my years to come and to serve as a reminder of just what a wonderful and loving mother I have been blessed to have for all these years.

How much did it cost? I believe it was just under $100, but is priceless to me.

Disney Consumer Products (DCP) today celebrates Pamela Lifford, executive vice president, Global Fashion & Home at DCP who was named one of the fashion leaders honored at Fashion Delivers™ 6th Annual Gala yesterday Tuesday, November 8, 2011 at the American Museum of Natural History in New York City. Fashion Delivers recognized three outstanding honorees who personify the belief that the fashion industry has a heart including: Pamela Lifford; Tom P. Johnson, CEO of Aéropostale; and Andy Hilfiger, Creative Director, Andrew Charles.

Former Disney Consumer Products Chairman, Andy Mooney presented the award to Lifford during the award ceremony. Along with entertainment and fashion celebrities, Disney’s leading lady Minnie Mouse joined the gala wearing a Vivienne Tam dress designed just for her fun loving personality and fashionable style.

Lifford has led the transformation of Disney’s identity in the fashion marketplace. This transformation, which includes a focus on design, quality, and product innovation, has improved consumer and critical perceptions of Disney as a home furnishings and lifestyle brand. During her tenure DCP’s apparel team positioned Mickey Mouse and Minnie Mouse as global fashion icons and executed new business models, now known as direct-to-retail licensing, which provide retailers with customized solutions for offering compelling and differentiated products to their shoppers.

Since 2002, Disney has collaborated with leading designers from Dolce & Gabbana to Jean Charles de Castelbajac and Stella McCartney to make classic characters like Snow White, Mickey Mouse, Alice In Wonderland and others forever fashionable. The mission of Fashion Delivers Charitable Foundation, Inc. is to unify the men’s and women’s apparel and home industries to donate new product in order to aid victims of disasters and individuals in need throughout the year. This year Fashion Delivers is focusing on giving back to those in need on our shores with a commitment to providing apparel, home goods and personal care items to members of the military and their families who are trying to adjust to civilian life.
