Cast and crew of Disney Junior’s #1 series “Jake and the Never Land Pirates,” celebrated the series’ first-ever primetime special “Jake and the Never Land Pirates: Peter Pan Returns,” at a premiere screening event on Saturday, January 28 at The Walt Disney Studios in Burbank, CA. The primetime special debuts on Disney Channel Monday, February 13 at 7:00 p.m.

This morning I was looking at an old article I wrote as a Christmas Guide for people buying for the nerd in their life.  The first rule of buying for nerds and geeks is that you have to know what kind of nerd you’re dealing with.  Video game nerds, comic nerds, movie geeks, Star Wars, Star Trek, manga, anime, toys, board games, history… there’s a lot.  See, nerd or geek really just means someone who has an obsessive amount of knowledge about a particular subject.  You may even be a geek without knowing it. Even you, guy who makes fun of people who dress up for comic conventions.  All that knowledge of sports statistics that you can and will spout to anyone stuck in a room with you?  NERD.

There’s a whole wide world full of different types of geeks.

That got me to thinking.  If there’s one thing that I’m even more obsessive about than comics, it’s Disney.  Yep, the odds are if you love Disney enough to read Chip and Co, you’re a nerd too.  Some of you nerds may be at WDW right now. Or maybe you’re going soon or planning a trip for next year.  In the spirit of Christmas, you might want to buy presents for those other Disney lovers in your life who won’t be there in the Holiday season.

Here are some suggestions.

• Pins! -  It’s really ingenious of Disney to start the pin craze.  It seems like a cheap souvenir at first.  But then you see another one you want, and another. Then you start staring down cast members like gunslingers, eying those lanyards for cast exclusives.  It gets expensive eventually, but fortunately I’ve been sober 7 years.  The point is, people really like pins.  They’re a no-brainer for gift giving.
• Hot Chocolate – I’m talking about the ones with Buzz Lightyear, Princess Aurora and Stitch on the label. It seems silly to say it, but the pre-packaged Hot Chocolate at WDW is a decent gift.  It tastes great, comes in packs of 3 and turns different colors.
• T-shirts -  I have this thing about t-shirts.  I can’t leave a vacation without a t-shirt.  Unfortunately Disney does nothing to help this addiction.  I always find at least 2 that I want.  You’re sure to find one for someone you love as well.
• Soundtracks – I listen to Disney stations like Sorcerer Radio and MouseWorld Radio all the time.  Part of the reason is that I’ve never indulged myself on the Disney Soundtracks.  Illuminations, Tapestry of Dreams, Wishes, etc.  This is the gift that keeps on giving for someone who loves Walt Disney World
• Zebra Domes!  Someone mentioned the zebra domes they sell at Animal Kingdom Lodge the other day.  I just really want someone to bring me some zebra domes. Or fudge. Ghiradelli maybe?
• Safari gifts – Speaking of AK Lodge, stop by the Zawadi Marketplace for loads of unique African-themed gifts. I found a great elephant statue for my Mom’s birthday on my last trip.
• Picture Frames – People really like giving picture frames, so why not go for the gorgeous ones you find at WDW?
• Crystal Figurines – This is where it gets more expensive.  We’ve all seen the glass cutting shops at Downtown Disney, Mexico Pavillion, Main Street USA, etc.  These make beautiful gifts for a woman in your life.
• Ninja Sword! -  You can buy Chinese swords in EPCOT.  It’s awesome.  I want the ivory handle sword from Highlander with the dragon inlay. Dudes will think this is the greatest Christmas gift ever.   (Not recommended for clumsy people.) There’s also all kinds of other cool gifts in China.
• Art of Disney – Just about anything from Art of Disney is the gift to end all gifts from WDW.  Posters with Walt and Mickey are great.  However, if you’ve got a lot of disposable cash, the paintings are amazing.

Making its rounds on the blogs this week is the new international movie poster for Cars 2.

It is currently scheduled for release in theaters in the US on June 24, 2011 and in the UK on July 22, 2011.

The film is directed by John Lasseter and co-directed by Brad Lewis. It features the voices of Owen Wilson, Larry the Cable Guy, Michael Caine and Emily Mortimer.

It will be presented in Disney Digital 3-D, IMAX 3D, RealD 3D and 2-D.

Guests lined up are far as the eye could see at the midnight opening of Disney Store in Montebello, CA near Los Angeles to be the first to start their holiday shopping and begin the Magical “Black Friday” celebration.

One of the biggest shopping days of the year, millions of shoppers got an early start at the 130 Disney Store locations nationwide opened at midnight and the all-new two-story Times Square location which opened at 7 a.m.

Cast members kept the crowds entertained and in the holiday spirit with Disney trivia and games while they waited to uncover those special holiday deals. When they reached the threshold, shoppers found a variety of Disney Store exclusive toys from Disney·Pixar Toy Story and Cars to Disney Princess and Tangled at $5, $10, $15, $20, and picked up something special for everyone on their shopping list.

They also received 20 percent off purchases until 10.a.m. More than 10 million people will visit Disney Store and DisneyStore.com from “Magical Friday” through “Cyber Monday.”

The Disney Dream cruise ship departed the Meyer Werft shipyard today on its conveyance down the River Ems, traveling from the ship’s inland birthplace in Papenburg, Germany to the North Sea at the port of Eemshaven, The Netherlands.  The journey began with a firework display as the ship passed through the first sea lock exiting the harbor, completing yet another milestone as the ship moves closer to its maiden voyage on Jan. 26, 2011, from Port Canaveral, Florida.

The conveyance process is a unique maneuver for ships built by the Meyer Werft shipyard, the only place in the world where this process occurs. The journey involves moving the ship some 26 miles down the winding River Ems.  In some areas, railroad bridges have been dismantled with sections lifted out to allow the ship’s passage.

“With the conveyance of the Disney Dream, we have reached yet another milestone for the third ship in our fleet,” said Karl Holz, president of Disney Cruise Line. “It won’t be long before our guests finally experience the inspired innovation and extraordinary creative content that makes this ship so magnificent and so unique. From an exhilarating ride on the AquaDuck to dazzling stage shows and exquisite French cuisine at Remy, the incredible offerings on the Disney Dream will delight everyone who steps aboard.”

Tens of thousands of local residents lined the shore to see the Disney Dream and some of its new and innovative features, like the AquaDuck water coaster, which winds around the ship’s iconic funnels.

“All of us at Meyer Werft and throughout the community of Papenburg are very proud to see this ‘Dream’ ship through its historic conveyance,” said Bernard Meyer, managing partner of Meyer Werft.  “As the largest ship this yard has built, our entire community feels a tremendous sense of achievement and a deep connection to this exceptional vessel.”

Prior to the conveyance, the Disney Dream underwent its float out on Oct. 30.  For the last two weeks, testing on the ship’s functional features has taken place in the Meyer Werft harbor, while work on the interior areas continued.  As the ship concludes the conveyance, it will move into what is known as the test-and-adjust period, departing Eemshaven for sea trials.  After sea trials, the ship will travel to Hamburg, Germany for a short final dry docking.  The ship then returns to Bremerhaven, Germany, for the delivery ceremony in which Meyer Werft will officially deliver the Disney Dream to Disney Cruise Line.  Here the ship will welcome its remaining crew members before departing for its home in Port Canaveral in Florida.

The Disney Dream is the first of two new Disney ships being built by Meyer Werft in Papenburg, Germany.  The Disney Fantasy is also currently in production and is scheduled to set sail on its maiden voyage on April 7, 2012.

Disney Dream Innovations

New Itineraries

After 20 months of construction, the Disney Dream cruise ship floated out of the enclosed building dock at the Meyer Werft shipyard today, completing a major construction milestone.  The ship was greeted by thousands of visitors lining the shore to see the newest Disney Cruise Line ship, which features the first water coaster at sea and other cruise industry firsts designed to build upon Disney’s commitment to delivering unparalleled family cruises.

The “Float Out” is a special maritime event that celebrates the ship’s final stages of construction, where exteriors become complete and final touches are assigned to interiors. In true Disney-style, the celebration was punctuated with a fireworks display and the appearance of Mickey Mouse and Donald Duck.  The Disney Dream is scheduled to sail its maiden voyage on January 26, 2011, from Port Canaveral, Fla.

“Today marks a monumental milestone and begins the first of the finishing touches for the Disney Dream as we prepare to welcome guests aboard our newest ship,” said Karl Holz, president of Disney Cruise Line.  “Our guests are counting down to the maiden voyage, and in just 88 days, they will get to experience all that the Disney Dream has to offer.”

The Disney Dream is the first of two new ships being built by the Meyer Werft shipyard in Papenburg, Germany.  The Disney Fantasy is also currently in production and is scheduled to set sail on its maiden voyage on April 7, 2012.

“Today is a day of great pride for all of us at the Meyer Werft shipyard,” said Bernard Meyer, managing partner of Meyer Werft.  “To finally see the largest ship this yard has ever built floated out and nearly complete is an inspiration within itself, and that coupled with the pixie dust Disney is known for, made this a truly magical moment for all involved.”

The Disney Dream will remain alongside Meyer Werft’s outfitting pier in the shipyard harbor for about two weeks, while testing is completed on the ship’s stabilizers, rudders and other functional features, and work on the ship’s interior areas continues. The ship is scheduled to leave the Meyer Werft shipyard and be conveyed down the River Ems, the second weekend in November, where its destination is the North Sea at the port of Eemshaven, The Netherlands.

At Big Thunder Ranch, you can see the wonderful creations the pumpkin artists at Disneyland have created! Lots of great characters! This weekend is your last chance to see them. After Sunday, they’re tossed out!

Just like Pepsi and Mountain Dew has been throwing back their soft drinks now it’s Disney turn with this new official movie poster throwback to the classic Tron.

Walt Disney Pictures has revealed the new poster for TRON: Legacy on Yahoo today, opening in 3D, 2D and IMAX 3D theaters on December 17. Directed by Joseph Kosinski, the sci-fi action adventure stars Jeff Bridges, Garrett Hedlund, Olivia Wilde, Bruce Boxleitner, James Frain, Beau Garrett and Michael Sheen.

I can’t wait for this movie. How bout you?

I would love to make a little photo “collage” of your photos if you’re going to either of the Halloween celebrations at Disneyland or WDW! You can submit photos to me at jessica@chipandco.com. Please include your name, where you’re from, and a little description of where you are in the park/what you’re doing.

In the mean time, I’ll do my best to find a photo of when I went trick or treating at Disneyland when I was really little in the 1990′s. I was Belle, and I took a photo with, of course, Belle and Beast. Once I find it, I’ll share if with you! (I KNOW for a fact that it’s in my house somewhere. I just don’t know what my mother did with it.)
