At D23 Expo this weekend, Marvel will making it’s freshman appearance at the Disney convention, and is bringing some very big guests with them.

On Saturday, August 20th, at the Walt Disney Studios panel, which starts at 10:30 am. Marvel Studios President of Production, Kevin Feige , will share the stage with the rest of the Disney studio heads to talk about what we can expect from them over the next few years. Feige will be talking about the future of Marvel Studios and will also bring us look at next year’s incredibly anticipated crossover film, The Avengers. On top of that, the cast of The Avengers (pictured above), including Robert Downey Jr (Tony Stark/Iron Man), Chris Hemsworth (Thor), Chris Evans (Steven Rogers/Captain America), Mark Ruffalo (Bruce Banner/The Hulk),  Samuel L. Jackson (Nick Fury), Scarlett Johansson (Black Widow), Jeremy Renner (Clint Barton/Hawkeye), and Clark Gregg (Agent Coulson) will be in attendance as well to talk about the movie, which is currently filming! That already adds onto the excitement of the fact that The Avengers has a presence at the convention.

Of particular note, Marvel didn’t hold a presentation at Comic-Con for The Avengers this year, which makes this a very big deal. To take such a big movie and make it a D23 exclusive will put this convention on the map, and even get them some serious business in the years to come. It was a great move on Disney’s part to hold back on the big reveal for their own convention. This, for me, adds on to excitement I’m already feeling for this weekend.

Also, on Sunday 21st at at 10:15 am, Marvel will be front and center in the Arena with a panel that will span from the beginning of Marvel’s first published comic in 1939 until now, while featuring an interactive Q&A. The panel will be hosted by Marvel’s Chief Creative Officer Joe Quesada, who was quoted saying “We’re thrilled to be a part of the one-of-a-kind show that is Disney’s D23. Whether attendees are new to the world of Marvel or longtime fans, they’re going to love what we’ve planned for them!” Don’t miss it!

Long time Marvel fans should have a lot to look forward to this weekend, while Marvel should be gaining quite a few new fans as well. As a huge Marvel fan, I know I’m greatly looking forward to it, and I can’t wait to see what Marvel and Disney have in store for the future.

I’ll be at D23 this weekend covering all things Marvel, so stay tuned for more!

“We’re thrilled to bring fans their first look at the world of John Carter before the blockbuster film wows audiences next year,” said Axel Alonso, Marvel Editor In Chief. “It’s been a pleasure working with Disney, Peter and Luke to craft a powerful story that will appeal to both the legions of John Carter fans and those who are new to this exciting world.” Director Andrew Stanton adds, “I am really thrilled to be collaborating with Disney & Marvel on this project and look forward to audiences exploring the world of John Carter via this exciting comic offering. I have wanted to see this property on the big screen since I was a young boy and hope that John Carter: World of Mars will excite and inspire fans of the series much like I was inspired many years ago.” Before John Carter’s arrival on Mars, what events shaped the conflict that would change his destiny—and that of the universe—irrevocably? Find out this October as war, love and inescapable destiny collide in JOHN CARTER: WORLD OF MARS!

About the Movie:
From Academy Award®–winning filmmaker Andrew Stanton and a screenplay by Stanton & Mark Andrews and Michael Chabon comes “John Carter”—a sweeping action-adventure set on the mysterious and exotic planet of Barsoom (Mars). “John Carter” is based on a classic novel by Edgar Rice Burroughs, whose highly imaginative adventures served as inspiration for many filmmakers, both past and present. The film tells the story of war-weary, former military captain John Carter (Taylor Kitsch), who is inexplicably transported to Mars where he becomes reluctantly embroiled in a conflict of epic proportions amongst the inhabitants of the planet, including Tars Tarkas (Willem Dafoe) and the captivating Princess Dejah Thoris (Lynn Collins). In a world on the brink of collapse, Carter rediscovers his humanity when he realizes that the survival of Barsoom and its people rests in his hands.

Let’s Marvel at Some Super Gossip…

If Fantasyland isn’t your thing, you’re looking for the next big thing at Disney and the rumor mill is reporting about Marvel. Imagine Tomorrowland transforming into the Stark Expo! Tomorrowland was made to debut the most up and coming technology and Disney now owns Marvel…the possibilities seem endless, as do the rumors.

Of course nothing is as simple or seamless as it seems; particularly for Walt Disney World. With Universal Studios being so close and featuring the same characters…will the Mouse overpower the Globe and take over the Marvel characters?

Which brings us to these facts and questions:

1. There is a lot of money in Marvel, which Disney now owns; what are they going to do about it?

2. “The Avengers” is being released next summer…seems like a great time to coincide with a park transformation…but is it feasible?

3. Tomorrowland in Disneyland and Innoventions in Epcot could use an update…why not the Stark Expo?

4. Disney recently reclaimed Oswald the Lucky Rabbit (Walt’s original character who’s rights were stolen) so negotiations between the Mouse and the Globe are possible…but will they be willing to let something as big as Marvel go?

So here we are left with speculation and questions, and a lot of exciting possibilities. How do you feel about super heros in your Disney parks?
