Stitch gets his own Gingerbread House at Walt Disney World Resort

There’s no place like Walt Disney World Resort for sugar fans during the winter holidays, with six spots for ogling amazing gingerbread creations: Disney’s Yacht Club Resort, Disney’s Beach Club Resort, Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort & Spa, Disney’s Contemporary Resort, Disney’s BoardWalk Resort and the Liberty Inn at American Adventure at Epcot.

Joining this year’s line-up is a fantabulous new creation in the lobby of Disney’s BoardWalk Resort. The gingerbread and chocolate gazebo is back but now you can also see Stitch’s Bakery Store Front, a miniature replica of the BoardWalk Bakery that Stitch has taken over (Lilo’s there too) – 14 feet tall and 10 feet wide. Disney cast members will be inside the creation decorating gingerbread houses.

To satisfy your sweet tooth, you can purchase mini gingerbread houses, stolen bread and gingerbread “shingles” (cookies).

Top 5 Snacks for Small Children at Walt Disney World

Top 5 Snacks for Small Children at Walt Disney World

Everybody loves snacks at Walt Disney World, but I don’t think anyone can top the love of snacks like little kids can!  There is something special about a salty, sticky, sweet, gooey treat just for them!  My daughters eyes light up every time we pass by a popcorn stand at Walt Disney World, like we don’t have popcorn at home!  There are so many snacks at Walt Disney World, you really could eat a full meal and never sit down at a restaurant!  Here are my (and my daughters) Top 5 Snacks for Small Children at Walt Disney World:

  • Popcorn – As soon as you enter Magic Kingdom the aroma of popcorn hits you like a ton of bricks! My daughters absolute favorite snack anywhere is popcorn so Walt Disney World is no different!  But popcorn from Magic Kingdom is special, it tastes better and can come in some really cute souvenir containers!  I like getting her popcorn as a treat early in the day because she can munch on it for quite some time and it does not make a mess!  There is nothing worse than having a cute outfit for pictures and having the first snack of the day stain it!
  • Goofy’s Glaciers (frozen cokes) – At Goofy’s Candy Co. in the Marketplace they sell a fun drink called Goofy’s Glaciers.  It is essentially frozen coke, but comes in a variety of flavors.  You can get them in a souvenir cup and get refills throughout your trip for a cheaper price!  We visit Downtown Disney quite a bit on our vacations so it is nice to get a discounted treat each time!  They are great on a hot summer day for little ones sitting in the stroller! The souvenir cup has a very secure lid and bendy straw and we have never had a problem with spilling!
  • Mickey’s Premium Ice Cream Bar – This treat is a staple on any Walt Disney World vacation!  This is probably the most iconic Walt Disney World treat!  I suggest enjoying one with your family for breakfast, what a fun memory!  For my daughters birthday a few years ago we started the day with Mickey ice creams all around and had the best time!  Since then it has become a breakfast staple one day each trip!
  • Chocolate Covered Marshmallows – These can also be found at Goofy’s Candy Co.  The great thing about these little treats are that they come on a Mickey Silly Straw.  So once you eat the tasty treat you also have a fun take home too!
  • Cupcakes – I don’t think I have ever seen my child’s face light up as much as when she is presented with a Walt Disney World cupcake.  And good reason! They are beautiful creations hiding a wonderful cake inside! Not to mention they are overwhelmingly huge, especially for a little girl.   And who doesn’t love Mickey sprinkles?! Starring Rolls has the best cupcakes according to Chip so make sure to stop by and check them out!

These are just some of the wonderful snacks to be found at Walt Disney World, but happen to be my little girls favorites!  Do your kids have favorite treats at Walt Disney World?

Every photo has a story.

One of the more well known Disney Christmas decorations found outside the gates of the Magic Kingdom is the victorian era inspired Gingerbread House at Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort and Spa.

Walt Disney World pastry chefs use a classic gingerbread recipe from Austria to create their gingerbread delights.  The GF Gingerbread House is so large, you can purchase the Bake Shop’s mini gingerbread houses, ornaments and cookies from the merchandise shop set up right inside the house.  This snack-filled gift shop usually operates from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m.  from mid-November through December 31st.

Picture this…the GF Gingerbread House is whipped up every year from scratch using 800 pounds of flour, 600 pounds of powdered sugar, 1,050 pounds of honey, and 180 pounds of apricot glaze.  It takes about 400 hours to bake everything, and by everything, I mean the upwards of 10,000 pieces it takes to complete the mouth-watering 16-foot-tall piece of culinary architecture.

Want to learn some neat tips for creating your own holiday gingerbread masterpiece?  Grand Floridian Gingerbread House decorating demos are held Monday through Saturday right out in front of the victorian Gingerbread House.  You’ll need to bring your Disney Rewards Visa,  because with all these sweet-treat options, you probably won’t walk away empty handed. You’ll want to bring your camera as well.

Every photo has a story.

The next time you stop by the Contemporary Resort  to grab a Black Forest Cupcake from the Contempo Cafe, walk straight out the back doors and head down the stairs.  This fabulous Mickey Mouse topiary is located just behind the Contemporary Resort, a great work of Disney art you just might normally overlook.

Topiary gardening, where living plants are fashioned into decorative forms, has been practiced for centuries.  Throughout Walt Disney World, topiary can be found in shapes ranging from trees pruned in geometric designs to the classic Disney characters.

Picture this…in Walt Disney World, there are 1,700 species of plants, representing flora from the United States and 50 countries around the world.

If you are a fan of Disney landscaping and the ancient art of topiary gardening, this spring you should head over to The Epcot International Flower & Garden Festival.  This is a special event filled with Disney character topiaries, a colorful array of flowers, gardens, live music and special presentations.  The next festival will be held from March 7 to May 20, 2012. You’ll definitely want to bring your camera.
