AllergyFreeMouse.com Announces a Guest Blogging Contest

allergyfreemouse logo small 300x300 AllergyFreeMouse.com Announces a Guest Blogging Contest

AllergyFreeMouse.com, the website for Disney fans with food allergies, is hosting a guest blogging contest for a chance to win a $100 Disney Gift Card. The goal is to add more firsthand experiences from other food allergy diners.

“Our readers tell us they really feel more confident after reading about food allergy dining experiences,” said Jeff, Co-Founder of AllergyFreeMouse.com. “We include more than just a simple rating with a few comments. We encourage our guest bloggers to relate the entire experience to our readers.”

AllergyFreeMouse.com is almost a year old and contains an extensive list of tips, planning advice and restaurant reviews compiled by the family that maintains the site. With three years of Disney vacations to pull from, the family has plenty of helpful info to share with the site’s readers. The website also features guest reviewers.

“We started the site for two reasons,” said Liz, Co-Founder. “First, even with the fantastic Special Diets Team at Disney, it’s somewhat confusing to create a food allergy-safe dining schedule while taking into consideration the various dining options, attractions and everything else Disney has to offer. But also, and more importantly, a lot of visitors aren’t even aware of this great food allergy program, and some aren’t aware until after they arrive, having already packed their own food for the trip. We put this information together to raise awareness and assist in planning. It allows people with food allergies to actually take a ‘real vacation’ with more confidence.”

There is also a great list of Disney Cruise tips (contributed by another family), plus a few mentions of Disneyland. There are future plans to add more content for both Disneyland and Disney Cruise Lines.

The contest is meant to encourage other families with different food allergies to share their experiences. Contributing the experiences they have had dining with multiple food allergies is also encouraged. The winner will be determined by the readers, using a “thumbs up” voting system on the website, as well as via “Likes” on Facebook.

“We hope this also encourages more people to invite their friends to view their guest reviews, helping us spread the word about the great Disney food allergy program,” Jeff says. “Living with one or more food allergies is tough, and we want everyone to know there is a fabulous place to vacation that takes food allergies as seriously as you do.”

The current contest runs through April 23rd and entries are already rolling in. Send yours to contests@allergyfreemouse.com as soon as possible to start acquiring votes. Details can be found here: http://www.allergyfreemouse.com/2012/01/guest-blogging-contest/

Top 10 Disney Foods I Never Get Tired Of

SAM 3297 300x400 Top 10 Disney Foods I Never Get Tired Of

I am a glutton for Disney food.  There I said it.  It came to my attention recently that I could probably live on less than a dozen of my favorite Disney snacks without ever tiring of their sweet (or salty) taste.  So in no particular order her are my Top 10 Favorite Disney Snacks!

1.  Mickey Premium Ice Cream Bars- If you don’t agree, we simply can’t be friends.

2.  Dole Whip Floats- I know most people prefer the original (I even made a batch at home that was quite good) but the float wins my heart because the juice brings out all the great pineapple flavor we know and love.

3.  Mickey Pretzels- I know they usually have a slightly overcooked/ possibly stale taste but I can’t help it my brain sees that it is shaped like Mickey Mouse and immediately loves it!

4.  Churros- There is a Garth Brooks song that goes “Bring me two pina coladas, one for each hand…” this is how I would like to eat my churros. LOL!

5.  Mickey Waffles- Again with the Mickey-shapes, I know! I am not masochistic I have just realized that all the quintessential Disney foods are shaped like the main mouse!

6.  Cupcakes/Muffins from either Main Street or Boardwalk Bakery- I swear, no matter when you get them they test like they were just popped out of the oven! I love how the smell of the bakery wafts out onto Main Street (and the Boardwalk)!

7.  Turkey Legs- I don’t even really like these but I feel like at least SOMEONE in my party needs to eat one (and get their picture taken by me while doing so)!

8.  Rice Krispy Treats- Whether your mickey-shaped treat is dipped in chocolate, sprinkles, or naked these are awesome! We often save them from our quick service lunches and I eat them on the plane home!

9.  Cotton Candy- Am I the only one who thinks even sugar and air taste better in Disney Parks?

10.  Popcorn- Maybe I just want the reusable container that it comes in, I don’t know, but all I can say is at home I don’t even really LIKE popcorn yet in Disney World I will take it as it comes!

What’s your favorite Disney snack? Did it make the Top 10?

5 Quick Tips for Saving Money on Food at Disney World

WDW Kids wTray79277115 5 Quick Tips for Saving Money on Food at Disney World

It’s no huge secret that food can end up being one of the major expenses on a vacation to Disney World. Yet there are a number of ways that you can plan your meals and save money. Probably the most well-known option is the Disney Dining Plan, especially if you are able to take advantage of the very popular Free Dining promotion.

But if your travel plans don’t allow you to visit during Free Dining, no worries, there are still a few things that can save you big money on your Disney vacation food budget.

  1. Make sure you have a frig or mini-kitchen in your room. Many hotels near Walt Disney World offer mini-suites with a small kitchen in them, and in addition to having more space, the frig and microwave can be extremely useful. If you are staying on Disney property, even in the basic hotel rooms, you can request an in-room refrigerator if there is not already one. We always use the frig to store milk, juice, water, and some easy breakfast basics. Bring or buy some cereal or bagels, and you have a healthy, inexpensive breakfast each morning. Plus it is a time-saver too, when trying to get to the parks bright and early each day. If you make it a habit to return to your room each afternoon, take the in-room meals a step further and get some easy lunch fixings too: you have now provided two meals per day for substantially less than what you would pay in the parks. Even if you don’t return to your room, with a small cooler that you can store in a locker at the parks, you can bring lunch with you. Splurge on a nice dinner and you won’t feel deprived at all, and will in fact feel quite proud of how economical you are!
  2. Use a Grocery Delivery Service like Garden Grocer for all of our Disney World Grocery Needs! Garden Grocer Inc. is a local online grocery delivery company based in Central Florida. They have 4800+ products to choose from, and will deliver right to your Resort! Shop online, complete order and they do the rest! We deliver to homes, offices, hotels, resorts and vacation homes.
  3. Bring snacks with you. Simple trail mix, crackers, some fruit, all help provide a healthy, and cheaper alternative to lots of expensive snacks in the parks. Bring your own water as well: you will save a boat-load of money, plus you will always have water when you need it, which is important on those hot summer days in Florida! Refill when passing water fountains and you will be fine. 5 Snacks to pack in a cooler for WDW.
  4. Think about sharing meals, especially if you have young children. Disney does not have a problem if you want to split a table service meal, and many folks often divide a counter service meal between multiple kids, or parent/child. In our experience, Disney is extremely generous with food proportions, so splitting meals saves dollars and also creates less waste, and that’s a good thing. Another option is to take the leftovers with you if portable, and put them in your…you guessed it…in-room frig for lunch the next day.
  5. You can eat off-site and save money as well. If you are staying off-Disney property, ask at your hotel for local restaurant discount coupons or promotions. Or try looking for online coupons/promotions through local Florida/Orlando websites. Consider sites like restaurant.com. You may even find it to be cost-effective to buy a local Entertainment Book for restaurant coupons.
