Disney Confidential: Updates on Disney Dining Reservation System.

Last month, a few posters on Passporter and on Disboardsdiscovered that you could book online advanced dining reservations at 190 days out from the date you wish to dine.  You could only book that day, but you could come back daily to make your ADRs.  It was more work, but it was worth it to get your ADRs early.  This, of course, was a change from making your ADRs at the 180-day mark (plus ten days from your check-in date for on site guests).

The “glitch” seems to be permanent at this point, but the most recent change is that off-site guests are now also able to book reservations using a bogus resort confirmation number.  This is odd simply because one of the benefits of staying on site has been the ability to get that 10-day jump on dining reservations.  We don’t know what’s going on and I’m not going to weigh in on whether I think it’s right or wrong. There’s a ton of speculation about why this is happening, but at this point, the entire exercise seems to be intentional, as Disney would have undoubtedly fixed the “glitch” at this point.

Another issue that’s been cropping up is that not all restaurants are loading at the same time.    We know that Cinderella’s Royal Table can only be booked at the 180 day mark, but in the last couple of days, we’ve seen situations were only a dozen or so restaurants have loaded early in the day. Guests have reported having to check back all day long for fear that some highly desirable location will pop up and be filled immediately, so it’s been causing a lot of frustration. This seems, for now, to have stopped.  Just a heads up.

If you’re making ADRs in the next few weeks, be aware of all these changes. As long as off site guests can make ADRs along with on site guests, there’s little advantage for those staying with the Mouse.  The more people who become aware of this change, the more difficult it will become to make ADRs, so get there at the 190 day mark as early as possible to make those ADRs.

If you want to read more about this, check out post #329 on this thread on the Dis.  The poster does a good job of explaining all the changes and what you can do if you’re unable to make your ADRs; occasionally, the system won’t accept them.

Good luck, happy eating, and if you hear anything, email me at AnonyMouse@chipandco.com.  You can also follow me on  Twitter at http://twitter.com/AnonymouseOne and on Facebook here.

Disneyworld Dining on a Budget Tips & Tricks to Save Money

Disneyworld Dining on a Budget Tips & Tricks to Save Money

Not everyone out there can always afford to get the mack daddy Disney Deluxe Dining plan. I can’t tell you how many trips we have taken over the years we we didn’t do any Dining Plan at all. Most times it was when we would rent a vacation home or stay off site with a kitchen.

With our economy just starting to show signs of life again and everyone learning to maximize what they have I have compiled a list of Tips & Tricks I have learned over the years visiting Walt Disney World to save money.

  • Go while the kids are young – Kids under 3 get in free at Walt Disney World. Most toddlers or infants are not going to eat much at all so they can just share off your plates. Perfect way to save some money especially if you goto a buffet like Boma of Chef Mickey’s.
  • Pick up snacks – There is a Walmart not far from WDW, actually there are a bunch! Check out the map here. If you add in Publix, Albertsons, Walgreens they are all literally a stone throw away. Take a cab, or drive over and pick up some snacks to keep you fueled throughout the day and eating less at meals.
  • Water Water Water – Filling up on water will cause you to eat less and in turn save you money at meal times. We have all heard our parents say you going to fill up on that drink before the food even gets here..Well use it to your advantage Disneyworld Dining on a Budget Tips & Tricks to Save Money Also when ordering your meals ask for water instead of pop or tea to save some big bucks!
  • Eats Snacks that are more like a meal – There are plenty of snacks at WDW that are so huge or so filling they are almost a meal. Use those to curb your hunger and save some money.
  • Freebies – This is not a guarantee but the past couple times we have gone to Main Street Bakery with our toddler she sat there with her face pressed to the glass staring at all the goodies. After a few minutes of this one of the girls in the back was so nice she gave her a little treat on the house. Both times it has been a marshmallow treat but hey its still free right?
  • Club Cool = Free Drinks – Speaking of freebies..Make sure to check out Club Cool in Epcot. There you can sample pop from around the world free of charge for as long as you like, as often as you like. We have been known to stop off here going into the World Showcase and exiting the Park.
  • Bring Food in the Parks – This kinda goes hand in hand with heading to the grocery stores. Pack some sandwiches, chips, fruit in a soft cooler and find a nice place to have lunch. When your done eating the soft cooler will fold up for easy storage.
  • Find Cheaper Eats – Your not going to find coupons to the Disney Restaurants but you may have to pass the Casual Dining Restaurant for a Counter Service option to save some money. Each park has a restaurant that is a really good value here are some of my favorites:
    • Animal KingdomFlame Tree Barbecue – Good food for sharing, and most meals are under $10
    • Epcot - Tangierine Café – Platters are great for sharing and most are under $12
    • Hollywood Studios – Starring Rolls Cafe – Most desserts here are so huge they NEED to be shared!
    • Magic Kingdom – Cosmic Ray’s Starlight Cafe – Chicken & Ribs Combo is a lot of food for $13

Well I hope this list will help you make the most of your Disney Vacation without breaking the bank.  If you have any Tips & Tricks to help Dining on a Budget at Walt Disney World let us know in the comment section.

New Pizzeria Via Napoli Countdown Begins for Walt Disney World

New Pizzeria Via Napoli Countdown Begins for Walt Disney World

Countdown to This September, Patina Restaurant Group plans to open a new casual pizzeria, called Via Napoli, adjacent to Tutto Italia Ristorante, its restaurant in the Italy pavilion in Epcot® World Showcase at Walt Disney World® Resort in Lake Buena Vista, Fla.

Restaurateur and longtime Patina Restaurant Group CEO Nick Valenti created the Via Napoli concept, based upon his travels in Southern Italy and his time developing and overseeing the successful Naples 45 Ristorante e Pizzeria in New York which was awarded the coveted certification of “La Vera Pizza Napoletana.”

While in Naples, Valenti spent time studying the art of dough, crust, sauce and oven temperatures at the famous pizzerias Da Michele and Trianon. At Da Ettore, he discovered the art of pagnotiello, a folded round of pizza dough filled with mozzarella, ham and mushrooms.

“I have always loved the beauty of a simple Neapolitan pizza,” Valenti says. “It’s a perfect food, something beloved by both Italians and Americans. I look forward to bringing it to Walt Disney World, where it should be a welcome addition to guests visiting Epcot.”
“At Via Napoli we will make pizza the traditional Neapolitan way: with a textured, soft
and charred crust.”

The new 14,000 sq. ft. pizzeria will feature a selection of classical Neapolitan pizzas, ranging from pizza bianca, quattro stagioni, piccante, ortolano and a traditional margherita. Famed Pizzaiolo Charlie Restivo will serve as executive chef at Via Napoli, where he will craft the pies using simple and delicious Italian ingredients such as San Marzano tomatoes, Caputo flour, handmade fresh mozzarella, Parma Cotto, crumbled sausage and water calibrated specifically to the pH found in Naples.

“We’re excited to be working with the Patina Restaurant Group once again on this significant expansion project,” said Dan Cockerell, vice president of Epcot. “Via Napoli will certainly enhance the guest experience and the architectural landscape of World Showcase just in time for our 15th annual Epcot Food & Wine Festival.”

A unique feature at Via Napoli will be the wood-burning ovens, which are named after the three active volcanoes in Italy – Mount Etna, Mount Vesuvius and Stromboli. Each oven will be sculpted with the “face of the volcano” — reflecting the gods whose mythology surrounds each volcano’s history.
The architecture and design of the new pizzeria will be based on a mix of traditional Italian styles, with the Florentine architect Stefano Nardini (of Magris & Partners) working in conjunction with Rick Swisher Architect to build it.

I wish I was going to the Grand Opening of this restaurant it sounds wonderful! Are you going to be there let us know in the comment section below.
