Changes coming to La Brea Bakery Café in Downtown Disney

brea123234SMALL Changes coming to La Brea Bakery Café in Downtown Disney

If you’ve been to the Downtown Disney District lately, you’ve likely noticed the exciting changes underway. On January 3, La Brea Bakery Café began a significant refurbishment of its current location including expanding the restaurant’s footprint, creating a new exhibition bakery, adding a new kitchen in the express area, and placing an awning over the outdoor seating in the full-service dining section.

The remodel, as seen in this early concept artwork, also will allow La Brea Bakery Café to produce fresh baked items at the restaurant, which will include a selection of breads, pastries, sweets, flatbreads and foccacias.

The café will feature menu items inspired by La Brea Bakery’s founder, Nancy Silverton. From double-dipped French toast and fontina strata at breakfast to burgers, salads, panini and authentic Italian focaccias made fresh throughout the day, the focus will be on fresh, healthy and flavorful foods.

La Brea Bakery’s full-service restaurant remains open during the refurbishment through mid-March. The restaurant will reopen its doors with a fresh new look in April.

Animal Kingdom; tiger nap time.

Every photo has a story.

Chip & Company fan Maleah Moskoff, the owner of www.chachatea.net, made a recent trip to Walt Disney World’s Animal Kingdom last September.  Maleah said of their theme park visit, “We always arrive at the opening hour of Animal Kingdom and head straight to the safari.  After the safari, we walk through Asia and hope to catch tiger feeding time.” On this particular trip, Maleah snapped the above photo when they came across the tiger’s nap time.

Animal Kingdom: No butts about it...

Picture this…Right after their opening hour arrival at Animal Kingdom,  Maleah took this shot of three rhinos. ”The lighting is great early in the morning, and the animals are just waking up. Plus, it’s not too hot yet.  I love the picture of the three rhinos, and I may even have that framed.  Our friends think we went to Africa when they see our Disney safari photos.”

Thanks, Maleah, for sending in your photo and your story, and thank you Chip & Company fans for coming along for a photographical ride!

Do you have any fabulous Disney vacation pictures you’d like to share? AllergyFreeMouse.com Announces a Guest Blogging Contest

allergyfreemouse logo small 300x300 AllergyFreeMouse.com Announces a Guest Blogging Contest

AllergyFreeMouse.com, the website for Disney fans with food allergies, is hosting a guest blogging contest for a chance to win a $100 Disney Gift Card. The goal is to add more firsthand experiences from other food allergy diners.

“Our readers tell us they really feel more confident after reading about food allergy dining experiences,” said Jeff, Co-Founder of AllergyFreeMouse.com. “We include more than just a simple rating with a few comments. We encourage our guest bloggers to relate the entire experience to our readers.”

AllergyFreeMouse.com is almost a year old and contains an extensive list of tips, planning advice and restaurant reviews compiled by the family that maintains the site. With three years of Disney vacations to pull from, the family has plenty of helpful info to share with the site’s readers. The website also features guest reviewers.

“We started the site for two reasons,” said Liz, Co-Founder. “First, even with the fantastic Special Diets Team at Disney, it’s somewhat confusing to create a food allergy-safe dining schedule while taking into consideration the various dining options, attractions and everything else Disney has to offer. But also, and more importantly, a lot of visitors aren’t even aware of this great food allergy program, and some aren’t aware until after they arrive, having already packed their own food for the trip. We put this information together to raise awareness and assist in planning. It allows people with food allergies to actually take a ‘real vacation’ with more confidence.”

There is also a great list of Disney Cruise tips (contributed by another family), plus a few mentions of Disneyland. There are future plans to add more content for both Disneyland and Disney Cruise Lines.

The contest is meant to encourage other families with different food allergies to share their experiences. Contributing the experiences they have had dining with multiple food allergies is also encouraged. The winner will be determined by the readers, using a “thumbs up” voting system on the website, as well as via “Likes” on Facebook.

“We hope this also encourages more people to invite their friends to view their guest reviews, helping us spread the word about the great Disney food allergy program,” Jeff says. “Living with one or more food allergies is tough, and we want everyone to know there is a fabulous place to vacation that takes food allergies as seriously as you do.”

The current contest runs through April 23rd and entries are already rolling in. Send yours to contests@allergyfreemouse.com as soon as possible to start acquiring votes. Details can be found here: http://www.allergyfreemouse.com/2012/01/guest-blogging-contest/

Being a Meatatarian at Walt Disney World

501407904 300x169 Being a Meatatarian at Walt Disney World

If you scour the internet looking for Special Dietary Requests at Disney World you will find everything from Eating Vegetarian & Vegan, to Gluten Free and people with other Food Allergies. If you do have food allergies I will say Allergy Free Mouse has some of the best resources on the interwebs!

But what about Meatatarians?

What is a Meatatarian you might ask? A meatatarian is a person who eats meat virtually to the exclusion of vegetables. The meatatarian often claims to be conserving veggies for those who would actually eat them, and keeps the veggies out of the waste stream, helping the environment, or keeping produce costs down.

Most times you will find these people eating Bacon and watching shows like Epic Meal Time! Bacon Strips & Bacon Strips & Bacon Strips! These carnivores of the theme park always hang out at places where meat is the highlight of the meal.

So to help out Meatatarians out there I want to suggest to you some restaurants where you can get your meat on!

  • Boma – Plenty of spicy Indian/African meat on this buffet.
  • Beaches & Cream – One of the best Hamburger Meats at Disney World. Forget the bun and go for a double with BACON!
  • OHana – Here they bring meat on skewers. Forget the salad, noodles, and other foods in the beginning of the meal and just ask for your server to start bringing you dem tasty meats! Don’t forget to dip those meats in Sauce!
  • Whispering Canyon Cafe – Ribs, Bar-b-que, Tenderloin and more! Here they bring the meat in a all you can eat bowl. Be sure to ask for Ketchup and a a refill on your drink icon smile Being a Meatatarian at Walt Disney World
  • Trails End – Smoked meats, Fried Chicken, and Ribs. One of the best values at Walt Disney World
  • Raglan Road – Irish Meats
  • Biergarten – German Meats. All the sausage you can fit in your mouth!
  • Tokyo Dining – Tons of Ocean Meats here. Nigirizushi has less rice and more meat.
  • 50′s Prime Time Cafe and Tune-In Lounge – Ask for the sampler of meats. Tell them to save the veggies for someone who eats them.
  • Sci-Fi Dine-In Theater – Another good Burger Meats stop
  • Liberty Tree Tavern – Thanksgiving meats

If there are any I missed please let me know in the comment box below.
