Buzz About Harrison Ford’s Possible Return as Star Wars’ Han Solo

Buzz About Harrison Fords Possible Return as Star Wars Han Solo

The internet is buzzing about the reports of Harrison Ford reprising his role as galactic smuggler turned good-guy, Han Solo for another trip back to a galaxy far, far away.

A video report from Fox News Latino surfaced today with an interview with Latino-Review.com’s El Mayimbe with word that Ford will indeed play Han Solo in an upcoming Star Wars film. Ford has stated in recent weeks that he is open to the possibility of playing Han again for a future Star Wars movie.

This story has NOT been confirmed by Lucasfilm/Disney but Latino-Report has been able to get scoops that have turned out to be true regarding recent Marvel films so it could be a definite possibility. Of course this could be a set up for a possible Han Solo “solo” adventure film rumored to be in development as well. Could we see Ford opening the film telling tales about his younger self? Could we see Solo in a cameo for Episode VII? Only time will tell.

Check out the interview video for yourself.

Disney to Exapand Star Wars Mythos with Standalone Films

Disney to Exapand Star Wars Mythos with Standalone Films

Bob Iger and George Lucas

Last night in an interview with CNBC Walt Disney Company CEO Bob Iger confirmed that work is currently underway to expand the Star Wars franchise by creating  standalone films. The lends credence to rumors of a Yoda, Han Solo and Boba Fett solo adventures, however there are no confirmations from Disney or Lucasfilm regarding characters or what era of the saga they will be producing. It does look like they will be shooting the new trilogy as well as these standalone films at the same time which can maximize the results for the studio keeping some costs down. It also appears that we can see at least one Star Wars film a year. Wow! It’s a great time to be a Wars fan!

Here is the press release from Disney/Lucasfilm:

The Star Wars cinematic galaxy is about to experience a Big Bang. Lucasfilm is officially announcing new spinoff films that will expand the mythos and depths of the Star Wars universe in previously unexplored ways.

One of the standalone films will be written by Lawrence Kasdan, screenwriter of The Empire Strikes Back, Raiders of the Lost Ark, and co-writer of Return of the Jedi while the other will be penned by Simon Kinberg, writer of Sherlock Holmes and Mr. and Mrs. Smith. The movies will be separate from the upcoming Episodes VII, VIII, and IX, on which Kasdan and Kinberg are also consulting, and are expected to be released sometime after Episode VII. Each standalone film will focus on a specific character, and two spinoff films are currently confirmed.

In a call to investors, Bob Iger, chairman and CEO of The Walt Disney Company, revealed while the original focus was on the highly-anticipated sequel trilogy, the idea of spinoff films was bandied about early and the additional films are now becoming a reality. “We are in development of a few standalone films,” he said, “that are not part of the Star Wars saga…there are now creative entities working on developing scripts for what would be those standalone films.”

But Abrams more than delivered with his surprising prequel that actually changes the future, offering a whole new and undiscovered future for the Star Trek characters, as well as paying homage to what had gone on before. J.J. Abrams Has Officially Signed on For ‘Star Wars Episode VII’

J.J. Abrams Has Officially Signed on For Star Wars Episode VII

Just yesterday, I reported that J.J. Abrams had been offered the director’s chair of ‘Star Wars Episode VII’, taking over the reins once handled by George Lucas, Irvin Kershner, and Richard Marquand, respectively. The Wrap had originally reported the news, but there was silence on the studio side, and almost everyone involved in both parties. Some started to chock it up to mere internet rumors. I wanted to believe the rumors were true, and I kept holding out hope that we’d hear something official, and thankfully, my patience paid off, because just over 24 hours later, Disney and Lucasfilm have released a press release confirming that Abrams, and his Bad Robot production company, are getting a chance to bring ‘Star Wars’ back to the big screen. Even better news is that Lawrence Kasdan, the man who wrote ‘Raiders of the Lost’, ‘The Empire Strikes Back’, and ‘Return of the Jedi’, will also be be helping consult on the film, as well as ‘Sherlock Holmes’ writer Simon Kinberg. Rumors ran rampant quickly, with names like Steven Spielberg, Matthew Vaughn, and one that was frequently popping up, was J.J. Abrams. Many assumed that with his hand so firmly in the ‘Star Trek’ universe right now, after rebooting the ever popular franchise. But apparently Abrams was the man for the job, at least according to Steven Spielberg and Kathleen Kennedy. According to the Wrap, sources close to the deal, Kennedy had been courting Abrams early on when the project came to light, thanks to Steven Spielberg, who was pushing her to hire him for the job. Understandably, Abrams was very hesitant to take the reins of the franchise, but Spielberg convinced him into saying yes. This is huge news, and we’re just waiting for an official confirmation at this time. Hit the jump for more. [Read more...]
