Summer Sizzles with Disney in 2013

Summer Sizzles with Disney in 2013

Summer 2013 sizzles with exciting new attractions and events at Walt Disney World Resort. Disney Cruise Line returns to Europe with an expanded portfolio of Mediterranean cruises, while Saratoga Springs Resort reopens the doors to a luxurious new spa.  Disney’s “Limited Time Magic” hits full-stride this summer. Plus, Star Wars Weekends let guests release their inner Jedi, and there’s water park fun for the whole family. Here’s what’s in store.

Magical experiences in all shapes and sizes that appear and disappear as the next special surprise debuts will continue with a weeklong Independence Day celebration highlighting the summer season — all part of Limited Time Magic at Disney Parks.

Independence Week: It’s red, white and blue as Disney Parks salutes America with a 4th of July Fireworks Party — for an entire week, with patriotic lighting bathing the Disney castles on both coasts. Mickey Mouse appears in his patriotic finest and guests will find special USA shirts, Ear Hats and other limited-edition souvenirs.

Guests will enjoy an extra dash of pixie dust each week in 2013 when they visit Walt Disney World whether it’s a meet and greet with rarely seen Disney characters, A Chalk Art Festival or a special salute to Father’s Day — the element of surprise enhances the experience.

A Villain and Hero Highlight Star Wars Weekends 2013

A Villain and Hero Highlight Star Wars Weekends 2013

One of Mickey Mouse’s favorite things about Star Wars Weekends is that he gets to dress in his Jedi best and join the galactic fun. Each year, Mickey seems to take on a different role in the official “Star Wars” Weekends logo. This year, his imagination takes him to the Forest Moon of Endor, where he is seen zipping away from scout troopers with Chip and Dale. Mickey’s wild speeder bike ride on this year’s artwork has historical significance, as 2013 marks the 30th anniversary of “Star Wars: Episode VI Return of the Jedi” — the film that featured the Battle of Endor.

In addition to unveiling the logo for this year’s event, we’re excited to announce a pair of celebrity appearances for “Star Wars” Weekends 2013 at Walt Disney World Resort, with two legends from the saga doubling the fun in two consecutive weekends.

Action star Ray Park, who portrayed the Sith warrior Darth Maul on the silver screen, will be one of the celebrity guests in Weekends I and II. Actor Warwick Davis, known to “Star Wars” fans as everyone’s favorite Ewok, Wicket W. Warrick, will be one of the guests during Weekends II and III.

Is This the End for Star Wars: The Clone Wars Animated Series?

Is This the End for Star Wars: The Clone Wars Animated Series?

The cast of Star Wars: The Clone Wars

There has been a lot of internet buzz regarding the future of  ”Star Wars: The Clone Wars” animated series since Cartoon Network aired the season finale last week. Rumors of the show’s cancellation ran wild while others speculated an announcement from Disney about the move to one of its channels. Today we know that Lucasfilm animation is “moving in another direction.” While not specific, it does sound as if there are no immediate plans to have season six on broadcast television.

We do know that various voice actors as we as supervising director Dave Filoni have gone on record working on season six and beyond. In the video clip below Filoni says, “Even though we are winding things down on Star Wars: The Clone Wars, it’s not over yet. In fact the best is yet to come!” This is good news.

Return of the Princess – Carrie Fisher on Princess Leia in Star Wars Episode VII

Return of the Princess Carrie Fisher on Princess Leia in Star Wars Episode VII

Star Wars news seems to be breaking on a daily basis which is a great thing! Original trilogy actors have been doing a lot of press answering questions regarding their possible involvement in Star Wars Episode VII. Mark Hamill, Harrison Ford and Billy Dee Williams have mentioned wanting to return to a galaxy far, far away. Now we can add Carrie Fisher to the “Ep. 7″ buzz.  Here’s an excerpt from a recent Palm Beach Illustrated interview with the galactic princess.

Q: “Disney is going to continue the ‘Star Wars’ saga, producing movies set to hit theaters starting in 2015. Can you confirm whether you’ll reprise the role of Princess Leia?”
A: “Yes.”
Q: “What do you think Princess Leia is like today?”
A: “Elderly. She’s in an intergalactic old folks’ home [laughs]. I just think she would be just like she was before, only slower and less inclined to be up for the big battle.”

As soon as the story broke Fisher’s representative fired off saying “nothing has been confirmed” and she was just “joking.” Notice my use of quotations. I think Lucasfilm/Disney is doing a great thing by letting these things leak as it builds anticipation for a 2015 release. I suspect that we will be hearing from Billy Dee Williams and Mark Hamill over the next few months to stoke the flames.

Marvel Headed to Hong Kong Disneyland

Marvel Headed to Hong Kong Disneyland

It looks like Marvel is aiming to officially land in the Marvel parks. There’s been much rumor and speculation around just how, when, and which parks the Marvel characters would finally make their Disney debut, and now it looks as if we have our answer. Unfortunately, for the Disney fans in North America, it doesn’t look like it’s our time just yet to swing with Spider-Man, smash with the Hulk, or battle the Sentinels with the X-Men, because the heroes are headed to Hong Kong Disneyland.
