Disney Releases 10 Minute Clip of John Carter

JCM Teaser 1s v52online61411 202x300 Disney Releases 10 Minute Clip of John Carter %tag

Disney has released a 10 minute clip from John Carter which opens this Friday. The clip helps set up the movie and helps you get familiar with Andrew Stanton’s adaptation. Having watched the movie this weekend at a passholder event, I think anyone who is not familiar with Edgar Rice Burrough’s work enjoy getting a head start on the plot and becoming familiar with some of the characters.

In the clip, you meet the fictional version of Burrough’s as he arrives at John Carter’s estate. Carter (Taylor Kitsch) narrates the story as Burrough begins to read his journal. I don’t want to give away too much in case you don’t want to watch the clip, but it is a great part of the movie.

John Carter opens in theaters March 9th. You can check out Chip and Company’s full review of the film here.

John Carter Passholder Preview at Disney’s Hollywood Studios

This weekend Drew and I attended the special passholder screening of John Carter at Disney’s Hollywood Studios. I was really excited about this event for a couple of reasons. One, I was getting to see a movie I was really looking forward to a week in advance and two, it was going to be in Hollywood Studios. How cool is that!

The event was held at the Premier Theater which is located near the Streets of America. It seemed to be pretty popular since we saw sever people lined up the day before and there was already a line when we arrived a little after 9:00 AM. Disney didn’t provide snacks but unlike other movie theaters you could bring in whatever you wanted. We brought breakfast from the Writers Stop but lots of people had bags of popcorn and drinks they brought from home.

When we checked in we had to provide our vouchers and show our Annual Pass. They also had a stand by line for people who had not signed up in advance but could get in if someone didn’t show up. Once you checked in you had to go through security. If you brought a cell phone or camera it had to be checked and would be returned to you once the movie was over. After that you received your goody bag which had a pair of John Carter 3D glasses, a lithograph, and information about the upcoming John Carter vinylmation series.

I had never been in the Premier Theater before but it was a great venue to watch the movie. Before the movie started they played a few previews for upcoming Disney films (I can’t wait to see Frankenweenie) and there was a short introduction and welcome from the director, Andrew Stanton. Real 3D provided the projector and I thought the 3D looked amazing. I won’t give a full review since Patrick pretty much summed it up better than I ever could in his review but I really, really enjoyed John Carter. I will probably be paying to see it again this weekend. I thought Andrew Stanton did an amazing job and you can tell how much he loved the material.

I hope Disney has more passholder events like this one. There was an excitement in the air since you knew you were getting to see John Carter before most people. Although next time it would be nice to get some popcorn.

Disney’s ‘John Carter’ Movie Review

For over a hundred years, Edgar Rice Burroughs’ eleven book ‘Barsoom’ series, which began with ‘A Princess of Mars’, has been an inspiration for many of our most well-known science fiction films, and has become a small staple of popular culture. Things like ‘Star Wars’, ‘Avatar’, ‘Flash Gordon’, ‘Buck Rogers’ as well as authors like Ray Bradbury and Arthur C. Clarke have all been inspired by Burroughs and his many characters and their adventures on the planet Barsoom, or as we know it as, Mars. But no character from the series has become more popular over time than John Carter, the hero of many of Burroughs’ ‘Barsoom’ novels. Hollywood has spent many years of attempting to bring John Carter and Barsoom to the big screen, and now Academy award-winning director Andrew Stanton (Finding Nemo, Wall-e) and Walt Disney Pictures have worked together to finally give this series it’s due on the big screen. Stanton has managed to bring the incredible world Burroughs envisioned all those years ago to the big screen in a true pulp fiction style adventure that fans and newcomers alike will fall in love with. This is science fiction, as well as action and adventure, at its finest.

Edgar Wright to Direct Johnny Depp in Disney’s ‘The Night Stalker’

Deadline is reporting that Disney has tapped Edgar Wright to The Night Stalker. The movie will be based on the ABC telepic and series of the same name. Depp would play Carl Kolchak, a reporter who always seems to find a supernatural connection to the stories he is investigating.

Wright is best known for directing one of my favorite movies Scott Pilgrim vs the World. His style combined with Depp’s ability to create eccentric characters has me extremely interested The Night Stalker. Since there is currently no script for the film, Wright and Depp will work together along with Depp’s producing partner Christi Dembrowski to adapt the material. Since Wright also has screenwriting experience, it is possible that he could be tapped to pen the script as well.
