Opposites rock in “Austin & Ally,” a new comedy series about an unlikely friendship, singing, songwriting and the adventures of trying to achieve one’s dreams, premiering SUNDAY, DECEMBER 4 (8:00 p.m., ET/PT) on Disney Channel. The series follows polar opposites – an extroverted musician/singer, and a brilliant yet shy songwriter – who combine their talents in an attempt to create a true musical tour-de-force. Starring are newcomer Ross Lynch as Austin, Laura Marano (“Without a Trace,” “Back to You”) as Ally, Raini Rodriguez (Disney’s “Prom,” “I’m in the Band”) as Trish and Calum Worthy (“Psych,” “Good Luck Charlie”) as Dez. Prior to the premiere of “Austin & Ally,” music sensation Justin Bieber performs “Mistletoe” from his upcoming holiday album, in an all-new episode of the hit series “So Random!”

In the premiere episode, Austin is eager to release another music video, so he puts the pressure on Ally to quickly finish the lyrics. However, in her haste to complete the song, she scribbles down the lyrics in illegible handwriting, prompting Dez and Trish – who are collecting props for the music video – to gather some strange items which they think correspond to Ally’s lyrics. When the odd collection of musical props and items begins arriving, they piece together the handwriting debacle and quickly work together to resolve the mix-up.

Production has begun in Atlanta, Georgia on the Disney Channel Original Movie “Let It Shine,” a modern day teenage Cyrano de Bergerac set in the world of gospel music and hip-hop. The movie is scheduled to premiere in summer 2012 on Disney Channel; its soundtrack will include 12 original songs by acclaimed music producers/songwriters/performers such as Rock Mafia (Selena Gomez and The Scene “Love You Like a Love Song”), Grammy-winner Toby Gad (Beyoncé “If I Were A Boy” and Fergie “Big Girls Don’t Cry”) and David Banner (“Dance the Night Away” featuring Denim from “Footloose” and “Get Like Me” featuring Chris Brown and Yung Joc).

The story follows 16-year-old Cyrus DeBarge, an aspiring musician who has a gift for rhyme yet lacks the self-confidence to take the stage and, through his rap song, tell his longtime crush Roxanne Andrews how he feels about her. After he and his flighty best friend, Kris McDuffy enter a songwriting contest, Kris is mistakenly named the winner for a song Cyrus wrote. Fearful of being thrust into the spotlight, Cyrus panics and allows Kris to take credit for his heartfelt lyrics and soon he’s standing by as Roxanne begins to fall for Kris.

Vance (“FlashForward”) as Cyrus’ preacher father, Jacob DeBarge, who opposes rap music; and Dawnn Lewis (“A Different World”) as Cyrus’ mother, Gail.

“Let It Shine” is directed by two-time DGA award winner Paul Hoen (“Camp Rock 2: The Final Jam,” “JONAS”), was written by Don D. Scott (“Barbershop,” “Barbershop 2: Back in Business”) and Eric Daniel. Leigh-Allyn Baker and Bradley Steven Perry from the Disney Channel hit series “Good Luck Charlie” scared up some fun with Mickey Mouse and Goofy at Disneyland park last week.

Bradley’s real-life mom, Kim, was also on hand and this was the first time any of them had experienced Halloween Time at the Disneyland Resort. In addition to seasonal favorites like Space Mountain Ghost Galaxy and Haunted Mansion Holiday, both of them were most excited about checking out Star Tours: The Adventures Continue.

Bradley and Leigh-Allyn also told me they have their own family traditions for Halloween. Bradley and his family head to his aunt’s house for a homemade chili dinner, and Leigh-Allyn said she creates her own unique candy combination: candy corn and M&M’s!

TV’s Duncan family already has big plans for another holiday season. Disney Channel has just announced that “Good Luck Charlie, It’s Christmas!,” a Disney Channel Original Movie, premieres Friday, December 2 at 8:00 p.m. ET/PT.
