Best Things I Love About Disney – The Pursuit Of Trivia

Before you start to read the article, take a very close look at the photo above. It’s a photo I took last year in front of the Great Movie Ride at Disney’s Hollywood Studios. The picture is of the hand prints and signature of Charlton Heston placed there by him on December 7, 1995. Did you notice anything wrong with the picture? Mr. Heston spelled his first name incorrectly – he forgot the “L”. The story behind it says that he may have been interrupted while signing and forgot one letter. No one noticed until it was too late!!

This is the type of thing that Walt Disney World junkies like me live for!! There are literally thousands of trivial little things all around Walt Disney World that most people simply do not notice until a kind soul calls it to their attention. Hidden Mickeys are only the beginning, but let’s start there. “Hidden Mickeys, A Field Guide To Walt Disney World’s Best Kept Secrets” by Steven M. Barrett is an outstanding resource for the Hidden Mickey hunter. He also has a book for the Disneyland Resort just substitute Disneyland Resort for Walt Disney World and you have the title.

The books I use as resources for Walt Disney World trivia are: “The Hidden Magic Of Walt Disney World” by Susan Veness and both volumes 1 and 2 of Lou Mongello’s books “The Walt Disney World Trivia Book – Secrets, History, & Fun Facts Behind the Magic”. These terrific books offer a starting point for crazed people like me to search further using the internet. It’s like a giant bag of potato chips – once you start, you can’t stop! All of the books mentioned here are available at Amazon.com. Just one more thing for the record – I have no financial interest of any kind in any of these books.

I encourage you to start reading about some of the little things at Walt Disney World and to see if you can find them on your next visit. But – while I encourage you to do it I also warn you it can be addictive!!!  As always, enjoy your visit to Walt Disney World!!
