Ben Savage and Danielle Fishel Officially Sign on For ‘Girl Meets World’
It’s official, Cory and Topanga are returning to television! Ben Savage and Danielle Fishel, who played the characters of Cory Matthews and Topanga Lawrence for seven season on the hit ABC series ‘Boy Meets World’, will reprise their roles as the married couple for the Disney Channel sequel series, ‘Girl Meets World. The series, being created by ‘Boy Meets World’ creator Michael Jacobs, is set to follow Cory and Topanga’s 13 year old daughter Riley Matthews, who is now navigating through her adolescent years, much like her parents did. I’m hoping she has much of her father’s strange and hilarious brand of humor, part of what gave the original show it’s charm.
But that’s not all. It sounds like Cory will have a rather prominent role on the show as well, playing the middle school history teacher, following in the footsteps of George Feeny, the fan favorite teacher of the original series, played by William Daniels. It really seems like a perfect fit for the character, and a true testament to honor Mr. Feeny after everything that he had done for him. At this time, no more casting has been announced, and a nationwide search for the actress to play Riley is currently underway. Rider Strong, who played Cory’s best friend Shawn has said that he hasn’t been approached to return to the series yet, but isn’t ruling out returning either.
Immediately following the announcement, Ben Savage took to Twitter to announce the news:
I’m going to be a father! Well, on TV at least. The “Boy Meets World” sequel is officially happening!

As a huge fan of ‘Boy Meets World’, I’m incredibly excited for this new series. Growing up on the series is what I consider some of my fondest memories, and I still watch re-reuns of the series every morning on ABC Family, and pull out my DVD sets from time to time. I’ve always wanted to revisit these characters now, and I’m glad to see the original creative team feels the same way as well. I really can’t wait to hear more about this series, and will be keeping a steady eye on it as it develops. Are you excited for ‘Girl Meets World’?
