Last Minute Tips before you leave for Walt Disney World!

Last Minute Tips before you leave for Walt Disney World!

The time is near, you’ve been counting down the days until your next Walt Disney World vacation for what feels like years!  You’ve made all your reservations, your ADRs, and everything else related to your visit.  Is there anything else you need to worry about?  Here are some tips that may help you out!

  • Don’t forget to stop your mail delivery, or have someone pick up your mail for you.  The last thing you want is to not be able to enjoy your vacation because you are worried about your mailbox being disturbed.  Just go to the United States Postal Service website to schedule your mail stop.
  • Have you checked the weather forecast for what the weather will be like at the parks when you are there?  If not, you might want to do so, and then just make sure that the clothing you have packed is appropriate for the weather.
  • Are you driving or flying?  If you are driving, make sure that you have appropriate snacks, games, movies, and whatever else you need to keep yourselves occupied while in the car.  If you are flying, you may be able to take care of part of your flight business online.  I can’t remember, it’s been six years since I flew anywhere, but look into it.
  • When we are leaving for Disney World, one thing that I always make sure we have plenty of for the car is Disney music!  I’ve got several playlists, and we are always changing them out in the car, so don’t forget that!
  • If you have small children, one thing you might want to do is make sure that you either bring a stroller, rent a stroller, or something, depending on whether your kids need it or not.
  • Also, bring some snacks with you that you can share when you are standing in line as a way to keep your energy up!
  • One more last tip that I am sure you won’t have any trouble remembering is this: Remember to have fun!  The whole trip is part of the vacation, from the moment you wake up early that morning until the moment you get home, so enjoy the journey as much as you do the destination!

Have a great and safe trip to Walt Disney World?  What tips would you also include in our list?  Just post them as comments!

Walt Disney World’s Tables in Wonderland Dining Locations

Walt Disney Worlds Tables in Wonderland Dining Locations

The Walt Disney World Tables in Wonderland program is a great way to enjoy some additional dining discounts if you are an Annual Passholder or Florida Resident.  For Annual Passholders, the cost of the card is $75, and it entitles you to 20% off of your meal cost (including alcoholic beverages) for the cardholder and up to nine guests! The card is valid for 13 months from your date of purchase!  However, an automatic 18% gratuity is added onto your bill, regardless of how many people are in your party.  When we went to Disney this past June, we purchased the card because we had a total party of nine people, and this allowed us to maximize our dining savings.  We had decided against the Disney Dining Plan because we didn’t want table service reservations for each night, so this was a great option for us.

The Tables in Wonderland card can be used at a lot of different locations throughout Walt Disney World!  Here is a comprehensive list for you to keep handy in your smart phones (don’t worry, if you are like me and don’t have a smart phone, you will still be okay because you will get a little booklet with the latest dining locations when you purchase the card).

At the Magic Kingdom:

At Epcot:

At Disney’s Hollywood Studios:

At Disney’s Animal Kingdom:

At Downtown Disney:

In addition to all of that, the card can also be used at all of the resorts (each resort has at least one option where the card is valid) and also at the Swan and Dolphin hotels.  In general, you will find that the TiW card is a great alternative to those that don’t want to do the Disney Dining Plan, but still want to have some table service meals.  When you are using the card, make sure that you mention when you check in that you have the Tables in Wonderland card.

For our last trip, I mentioned that we used the card — we ended up saving well in excess of $200 off of our dining costs (we had four table service meals), and that is in addition to recouping the $75 we spent for the card.

I hope that this list helps you to find some new, interesting ways to explore the Walt Disney World restaurants, while still getting some savings.  At the very least, you can use this list to help find out which unknown restaurant is the next on your list to try out!  Just click on the links to read more about them!

My Top 5 Things to do at the Disney Resorts

My Top 5 Things to do at the Disney Resorts

For the most part, my writing revolves around the things that you can see and do and experience at Walt Disney World.  It has only been recently that I realized that I really don’t write a whole lot about some of the best aspects of the Walt Disney World resort – the resorts themselves!  So for today, I’m going to give you my top five things to do at the Disney resorts!

One thing that I find interesting is that even though we have stayed on property at Walt Disney World for five years in a row, we have only stayed at three different resorts.  So, this may not include some of the great things that you think of when you think of the great things to do at the Disney resorts.

  1. Walking the grounds over at Coronado Springs Resort and Spa.  My friend Chris will definitely disagree with me on this, because she just doesn’t like Coronado Springs very much, but in my My Top 5 Things to do at the Disney Resortsopinion, Coronado Springs is one of the best moderates in the Disney arsenal.  Like many of the moderates, how much you think of the resort depends on where you end up, for our first stay there, we were just a hop, skip, and a jump from the main building and the big pool, and the décor at that part of the resort was incredible!  I loved it.  For the second year, though, we were further out, and truth be told, that part of the resort felt much more like a hotel, although I think that was because we were further away from the bus stops.  However, take a look at the picture and imagine yourself there right now.
  2. The resorts over at Port Orleans are perhaps some of Disney’s best-kept secrets (even more so than the DVC!)  Port Orleans French Quarter is one of my favorite resorts on property, and there are several reasons for that, but the one that I’m referring to here is taking the Water Taxi down the Sassagoula River to Downtown Disney.  This scenic trip down that lazy, man-made waterway is a relaxing trip from one of the quietest resorts on property to the hustle and bustle of the Disney Shopping experience.  On your way there, or back if you are coming from Downtown Disney, you will see the Treehouse Villas and other Disney properties.  If you don’t want to go to DTD, you can also take the water taxies upriver to POFQ’s sister resort, Port Orleans Riverside.
  3. At all three resorts that we have stayed at, we have enjoyed the pools that they have on property.  The pool at Port Orleans French Quarter is named Doubloon Lagoon, and features a waterslide out of a sea serpent’s mouth!  At Coronado Springs it is named the Dig Site, and features distinct Mayan theming.  At Bay Lake Tower, the pool looks like a giant hidden Mickey, and while it doesn’t have any really impressive theming associated with it, it does have a kicken’ water slide that is really a lot of fun!  We always seem to find some time to enjoy the pools at our resorts, and I don’t think that will change anytime soon!
  4. The next thing on my list is something that I have done, even though I have never stayed at this resort – yet, that is!  When we ate at Boma this past June, after we were done eating we went out and explored the pool area over at the Animal Kingdom Lodge.  While we were checking it all out, we came upon the part of AKL where you could look through the night-vision glasses to see the animals on the savannah!  I had never looked through those glasses before, and while I didn’t see anything that I could actually identify, it was really cool to be able to experience that!  The Cast Members loan out the glasses for people to use, and it is a free experience, so if you are interested, I suggest that you check it out!  Our plan is to stay at the Animal Kingdom Villas next year, so we will show our friends this hidden treasure so that they can enjoy it as well!
  5. For my final activity, one of the things that I really enjoyed doing was to take in the Boardwalk over by Epcot’s International Gateway.  Last year, when we took my niece Stephanie to Disney with us, one of the things that we did was to eat at the Captain’s Grille for dinner, and afterwards we went walking on the boardwalk.  It was the first time that I had been there, and we had such a good time there, it is really something that we should do more often.  Walking the boardwalk, watching the sun go down and the buildings light up, catching some of the street performer acts, it is really an incredible thing to do on a mild summer’s evening.

So that wraps up my top five things to do at the Disney resorts.  I hope that you have enjoyed reading my take on the resorts, and if you have been inspired to try some things out that you might not have done yet, then go for it, and discover the great things that the Disney resorts have to offer!  What things would you recommend that we do during our next trip?

Chip & Company Week in Review, August 29, 2011

Welcome to a special earthquake and hurricane Week in Review!  Here on the east coast, there was some crazy weather (does an earthquake even qualify as “weather”?), so to take our minds off of all of that, let’s take a look at some of the great Disney news that you might have missed:

That’s our look at some of the news stories from last week, now let’s take a look at some of the incredible original articles that our writers produce each and every day!  Enjoy!

  • In her weekly “Wednesday With Walt” series, this week Brenda tells us how close Fess Parker came to giving up the acting profession completely.  If it hadn’t been for the Davey Crockett role that he was cast for, the movie world would have never heard the name Fess Parker.
  • In our Around the “Disney” World series, this week we were taking a closer look at Disney’s Animal Kingdom.  I thought I would share with you my look at the part of Animal Kingdom dedicated to Asia.
  • Lastly, Chris answered a question for a reader about dining options for diabetics.  If this concerns you, check it out and learn all about the incredible ways that Disney brings the magic for everyone!

That’s all we have for you this week.  I hope you have a terrific week, and remember to check out Chip & Company often for the latest in Disney News, Views, Giveaways, and more!  Also, to keep up with the latest Disney news and views on the fly, check out the Chip & Company Facebook Page or follow Chip & Company via Twitter!
