The Best Thing I Love About Disney Is … Restaurant Marrakesh

There is a restaurant in the Epcot World Showcase that has a very loyal following but has not yet reached the popularity level of Le Cellier and many of the others located there. We were there in November 2009 and at that point we became part of the loyal following.Restaurant Marrakesh is a delight to both the palate and the senses. As many of you know, the King of Morocco sent his personal architect to Walt Disney World to make sure that everything was authentic in the pavilion. One more … [Read more...]

The Best Thing I Love About Disney Is… Walking at Port Orleans Resort

For those who have never stayed at the Port Orleans Resort, you might want to consider it. On your next visit to Walt Disney World, take a bus over to the resort and spend an hour walking around. When we stay there we stay in the Magnolia bend section of the resort and at least once or twice during each visit we will do a bit of a walking tour.We normally leave our building and cross the bridge over the Sassagoula and head down to Port Orleans French Quarter. It is much smaller than the … [Read more...]

Oldies But Goodies – Should Seniors Use Disney’s Magical Express?

One thing we value as Seniors above almost everything else is our independence. We have grown up in an era where we were required to depend on ourselves for almost everything. Unfortunately, this may lead to a feeling of reluctance to let others take total control of something that is personally very important – our luggage while flying. Certainly we trust the airlines (sometimes with mixed results) to get our luggage from point of departure to point of arrival but then we can get our hands on … [Read more...]

Disney World Quick Tip – Getting Those Character Pictures

O.K. I’m 64 years old and I still want my picture taken with Mickey, Minnie, Goofy, etc. There are a number of ways to do this and if you want specific characters in specific costumes, i.e. farmer outfits at the Garden Grill you have to go to those places. You can also hunt them down in the parks and wait in line for a quick shot and off you go to search out another one. This method can quickly overcome other plans and the character pictures become an obsession.I’ve found that a stop at the … [Read more...]

The Best Things I Love About Disney Is…The Remy Experience

Rats are not supposed to be cute, especially in the dining room of a very nice restaurant and even more importantly on the cheese and fruit tray that has just been brought to your table. Well, Disney has done it again. They have taken everything above that is supposed to be horrifying and made it way TOO CUTE!! I’m talking about the Remy Experience at Les Chefs De France in the World Showcase at Epcot. Remy and his handler make several trips through the dining room at lunch and at least one … [Read more...]

Walt Disney World Quick Tip – Watching Wishes At The Magic Kingdom

A lot of my tips come from careful study and planning but this one was a total accident. A lot of visitors love to watch Wishes (Hallowishes etc.) from Main Street USA for many reasons. Some think they will get out of the park faster, but unless they watch from the far end near the train station they will not. Others like the crowds (not me) and still others just have to see the fireworks framing Cinderella Castle. I can appreciate the last one but I’m not quite that fussy as long as I see the … [Read more...]

The Best Things I Love About Disney Is… The Twilight Zone Tower of Terror

There are three things that are important to me on a Disney attraction, 1-Theme, 2-Back Story, and 3-the WOW! factor of the Ride itself. Most of the ride attractions at Walt Disney World have at least one or two of these and many have all three but one embodies all of them better than any of the others – The Twilight Zone Tower of Terror. From the time you enter Disney’s Hollywood Studios the sheer size and scope of the attraction grab you and draw you in. As you walk down Sunset Boulevard it … [Read more...]

Oldies But Goodies – Seniors And Thrill Rides At Walt Disney World

Chip sent me an article not too long ago concerning Seniors who ride coasters. My memory was jogged by the article and reminded me of something that happened about twenty years ago.I made my first trip to Walt Disney World at the age of 44. My Wife, Sister and I took our parents for their 50th Wedding Anniversary. At the time my Father was 79 years old and I thought he was a rather cautious individual so you can imagine my surprise when he said I’ve always wanted to try “that”. He was … [Read more...]

Walt Disney World Quick Tip – Illuminations Viewing

It seems that people are always looking for the best Illuminations viewing spot and invariably , most seem to end up between the Friendship Docks on the Future World side of World Showcase Lagoon. They do this to avoid the crowd and the rush to the exit but by viewing from this spot they become part of both.Over the years I have found that unless you have a prime dinner reservation at the Rose and Crown and want to take a chance on an outside table (even if you don’t they will allow you to … [Read more...]

Oldies But Goodies – Planning Ideas For Seniors At Walt Disney World

When Seniors travel to Walt Disney World we go in different configurations. We travel with extended family, we travel with friends, and we travel by ourselves. I’m going to address primarily those folks who travel by themselves as “empty nesters” or those who have never had children. For hints on traveling with extended family and friends I would suggest you read a recent Chip and Co. article by Lisa entitled Visiting Walt Disney World with Extended Family and Friends. The article is extremely … [Read more...]
