Yes, a Disney World Vacation can be expensive,  but Disney does a great job of allowing families of all sizes and budgets to have a great time!  There are all sorts of ways to cut down costs at the Parks, but maybe the most beneficial to your wallet is having the ability to pack your own cooler!

That’s right, Walt Disney World actually allows you to bring a cooler into the Parks, which is something not all theme parks allow you to do.  This is a HUGE money saver, especially when a coke will run you close to $3.00.

Here are a few things to keep in mind when packing your cooler for Walt Disney World:

  • Your cooler must be soft sided and smaller than 24″ X 15″ X 18″ which happens to be the size of a locker at Walt Disney World.
  • No alcoholic beverages are permitted into the Parks at any time!
  • No glass containers are allowed inside the Parks, with the exception of baby food jars.
  • Coolers with wheels are not permitted into the Parks.
  • Disney’s Animal Kingdom does not allow anyone to bring in coolers of any kind, except for medical purposes, for the safety of the animals.  Animal Kingdom also does not allow juice boxes or drinks with lids into the park for the same reason.
  • Upon entering the Parks, you must get your cooler inspected at the bag check locations.

Also, keep in mind when you are packing a cooler to take to Walt Disney World that  there is no place to heat anything up.  Everything that you pack should be okay to serve cold, chilled, or room temperature.  Remember that Florida can get very hot, even inside a cooler, so try to pack items that wont spoil in the Florida sun.

Pack anything your family would enjoy, from snacks to a full blown afternoon picnic and save your family a little extra souvenir money and maybe make a memory or two!

Do you bring a cooler? If so what are some of the things you like to bring with you?

On my last trip to Walt Disney World my family decided they wanted to eat at Le Cellier for lunch.  Currently, Le Cellier is 1 table service for lunch but in January even the lunch menu will be bumped up to 2 Dining Credits.  So this would be one of the last times we would eat there.  I am not a known fan of Le Cellier for two reasons: 1. last time I ate there I was very very sick and honestly miserable and 2. I am not a huge steak fan.  So can a person really eat there and not order a steak and still have a nice meal?  Well the answer is Yes, you can!! The lunch menu has several options, it looks pretty much like the dinner menu only not as many fish selections I noticed.  They also offer the Chefs pick menu and even on the dining plan you can enjoy an appetizer, entree and dessert.  I opted to go with that menu.

For the started I had the Spicy Chicken and Chipotle Sausage with roasted corn polenta and sweet onion jam.  Wow!  It was amazing and big enough it really could have been a meal of its own.  The chicken sausage is so good, but beware that it is spicy but not so hot it’ll burn your mouth.  The roasted corn polenta was so creamy with just enough sweetness from the corn to balance out the flavors from the spicy sausage.  I’m telling ya, skip the soup next time and give this a try! Yum!

For  my entree I picked the Le Cellier House Burger.  I know what you are thinking, what no steak?!  But if you are not a steak lover, why choose one just because you are at a steak house.  It is not a rule.  The burger was topped with roasted mushrooms, smokey bacon, maple barbecue, cheddar cheese, crispy onions, and served with a side of french fries.  They will cook your burger to order and I ordered mine well done and it was perfect.  The burger is huge, I could barely put down half of it after the appetizer.  I offered up samples to other people at my table and everyone enjoyed it.  The burger is a winner in my book!

Of course even with the options you still get to enjoy the wonderful bread variety they serve you and still pick a dessert.  Even if you don’t order a steak , I promise you will walk away from here full.  When planning our Disney vacations it isn’t all about me and where I want to eat, so I was more than happy to go back to Le Cellier.  I just don’t feel like I have to order a steak because that is what they are known for and I hope you don’t feel that way either.  The other menu options are just as flavorful and satisfying!  So if you don’t love love love steak, next time you visit Le Cellier branch out!

What about you, when you visit Le Cellier what do you order?  I would love to hear in the comments below!

The Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique at Walt Disney World is one of the funnest extra’s you can do if you have a little girl!  The salon is normally noisy and crowded but each “Fairy Godmother” treat the girls as if they are the only ones there!  It is a must do for us each time we visit Walt Disney World.  In order to make that happen, I have had to come up with ways to do the Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique on a Budget!

The Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique offers three different packages to choose from.

  • Coach Package includes hairstyling and shimmering makeup—starting at $49.95 USD plus tax.
  • Crown Package includes hairstyling, shimmering makeup and nails—starting at $54.95 USD plus tax
  • Castle Package includes the Crown Package plus the Imaging Package (one 6″ x 8″ and four 4″ x 6″ photos in a princess-themed photo holder) and complete costume of your choice with accessories—starting at $189.95 USD plus tax.

We ALWAYS choose the crown package!  Not only do you get the hair, makeup and nail – there is a photopass photographer going around taking your daughters picture constantly!  So if you have already ordered the photopass cd, like we do, there is no need to have extra prints of these when you have already paid for them on the photopass cd.

On top of choosing the Crown Package for our daughter, we always bring a princess dress from home!  We normally make a trip to our local Disney Store before our vacation and pick up a dress of her choosing.  This runs us normally less than $40.00 depending on which dress she chooses and if we get accessories.  That is a lot cheaper than the dresses at the Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique!   And guess what… they treat you no different if you bring your dress from home!  Just tell the ladies up front and they will arrange for you to go into the fitting room and put it on just like the girls who bought the more expensive package!  It really is great, Disney does a great job of accommodating people with all types of budgets!  You certainly don’t have to bring a princess dress at all.  One year my daughter just wore a special outfit we picked out for her instead!  Etsy is a great place to look for custom outfits and they are reasonably priced!  No matter what you choose for your child to wear, your Fairy Godmother will make a fuss over her!

I also like the crown package because of the goodie bag you receive at the end of your daughters makeover.  You will receive the makeup pallet used on your daughter, two bottles of nail polish, the rest of the face gems and a pretty sash!  It is really fun to take this bag home and use it to play Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique with your child once your vacation is over!

There are several dresses and accessories for sale at the Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique.  They are never forced on you, in fact I have never even been asked if I would like to purchase anything other than my package!  It is really great to not feel pressured into spending more money!  Make sure you do save a little cash out to tip your Fairy Godmother!  They do a great job with the girls and make it a lot of fun!  You can put your tip in a special wishing well and make a wish, everything is an event at the Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique!

And here is a tip for moms too, at the end when they glitter up your daughter ask for them to do you too!  They will sprinkle pixie dust on you and you can be glittered right along side of your child! It is a fun little extra I love to have done!

No matter which package you choose, you will certainly have a great time and with my tips you might save a little money too!

Warning:  If you are on a diet please just look away.  I am not joking, what I am about to show you will tempt even the most strong willed people.  It really will.

On my latest trip to Walt Disney World I set out to try several food items I had not yet crossed off my Disney Dining Bucket List.My most anticipated item to cross of the list was the Mac & Cheese and Truffle Oil Hot Dog from Fairfax Fare at Disney’s Hollywood Studios.  I am not too proud to admit I love a good hot dog and I love mac and cheese, so combining the two seemed like a match made in heaven.  The Mac & Cheese and Truffle Oil Hot Dog will cost you $8.59 or on the Disney Dining Plan 1 counter service credit.  If you choose to use a counter service credit, you will also get a large beverage, chips and a dessert (go with the carrot cake!).

When your order is ready for pickup at the counter I think you will be pleased with what you see.  The Mac &  Cheese and Truffle Oil Hot Dog is also served with bacon on top! Wow – What a combination! Before you dig in make sure to get plenty of napkins and a fork to catch all of the goodies that are about to fall off.  Roll your sleeves up and take a big bite!

The flavor combo here really works! The truffle oil you can certainly taste but it is not overpowering.  The bacon adds a nice crisp to each bite and the mac and cheese is super creamy.  This hot dog is out of this world!  Give it a try, you will be happy you did!

My first trip to Walt Disney World as a mom was a complete mess.  I was unorganized and unprepared.  I experienced a lot of stressful events at Walt Disney World that year, so to spare you from making the same mistakes I made…

Here are my top 5 tips for Moms at Walt Disney World.

  • Always take baby wipes, no matter what age your child (or husband) is!  Someone is bound to get messy and it is great not having to run into the bathroom here or there just to wash hands.  They are also great for an afternoon pick me up.  Just rub a baby wipe across your neck and over your face and feel refreshed!
  • If you do not have a refrigerator in your room you can still chill bottles of water!  At night fill your sink with free ice from the vending machine and put some bottle waters in to chill for the next day.  By morning the ice will have melted and the water can drain nicely down the sink.  Pack the water (or juice boxes) in a  cooler before you leave for the Parks and they will stay nice and cold inside a cooler till you are ready for a drink. If you are bringing a cooler make sure to pack these 5 snacks!
  • Keep your purse organized with Ziploc bags!  Seriously, these things are great!  You never know when you might get wet at Walt Disney World and who wants to chance it with cameras, video cameras, and phones?  It is much easier to find what you need when your personal items are organized and a lot less time consuming then dumping your purse out on Main Street searching frantically on your hands and knees for your Photopass card.  Seriously, been there done that.
  • If a Cast Member asks if they can assist you, let them!  Disney staff is highly trained and are some of the best employees in the world.  They deal with family crises everyday and handle them well.  I have never seen a Cast Member get annoyed when stopped to answer a question.   They may even have something extra magic up their sleeve for you.  And remember, please and thank you go a long way!
  • Depending on how old your kids are, pick out 8-12 must do’s at each park.  After you have experienced those, enjoy the day.  Slow down and notice the little magic happening all around you.  Walt Disney World has magic in every last detail and if you are so attraction focused you may miss out on something really special.

So there you have it, my top 5 never fail suggestions for mothers braving Walt Disney World for the first time with children!  But mostly don’t forget to have fun!  A Walt Disney World vacation holds memories in every corner, make sure you enjoy them!

Hey there! One of my most favorite Disney topics is Disney dining!  I think about the wonderful food and fun snacks at Disney all the time, even my 5 year old can show you where the Dole Whip stand is!  So today I wanted to share with you my Top 5 Favorite Disney Meals.  If you haven’t tried them yet, I highly suggest each one – these picks will not disappoint!

Coming in at the #5 spot is La Cantina de San Angel.  La Cantina is a counter service meal on the Disney Dining plan.  Each meal is one credit and you get to pick an entree, drink and dessert! I LOVE Mexican food and enjoy stopping here for lunch while walking around the World Showcase in EPCOT.  Some of your options here are Guacamole and Chips, Beef Brisket Tacos, Epanadas De Queso, Chicken Tacos and Nachos!  I have tried most of the menu and everything is great!  They also have a great kids menu, alcoholic beverages and desserts! I happen to love the churros for dessert, served with a dipping sauce- yum!  They also have Mexican popsicles for dessert called Paletas in flavors like cantaloupe, mango and coconut!  If you do get a dessert and want to Paletas you can ask the Cast Member at the window to hold on to it until you are finished with your meal, that way it doesn’t melt in the Florida heat!

#4 – TREX.  TREX is located in Downtown Disney and is a Dinosaur themed Restaurants.  TREX was just recently added to the Disney Dining Plan as a table service meal worth 1 credit per person!  I will admit TREX is very loud and flashy with a meteorite storm just about every 15 minutes.  But hey, I am a touristy person, it is Disney after all, and I just love it!  The food here is great, and I have tried a variety of menu options.  I love the Nachos as an appetizer it is plenty to share with the table!  Entree options I like are the Layers of Earth Lasagne it is a giant slice and cooked just right, the Paleonzoic Chicken Sandwich the fried pizza dough as the bun is terrific and so different, and the Fire Roasted Rotisserie Chicken!  You can see them cooking the rotisserie chicken and smell it as soon as you hit the door, it is big enough to share!  My daughter loves the Dino Nugget kids meal, they are really cute!  There is also a drink menu with great beverages and killer desserts! I have tried the meteor bites and the chocolate extinction and both are delish!  The atmosphere is just really fun here, we always have a great time!

#3 – Earl of Sandwich.  This is my most favorite counter service option! I love a good sandwich and let me tell you they do it right here! Don’t let the long line scare you off, you will be impressed how quick it moves.  They also have a lady in line with you in case you have any questions about the menu.  My favorite sandwich to order is the All American – turkey, ranch, cranberries, cheddar, lettuce and tomato.  If you are on the dining plan it is 1 quick service credit and you also get a side item and a dessert! Some of the other sandwiches include The Italian, The Full Montagu, Cannonballs, Veggie and a lot more! All sandwiches are served hot and will cost you about 6 bucks.  They also have killer soups, salads, and wraps! They also have great sandwiches on the kids menu including a Pizza Sandwich that is so good even I order it sometimes!

#2 – Donald’s Safari Breakfast at Tusker House.  Here is a tip, try to get a reservation before Animal Kingdom actually opens up to the public.  We like to book as early as possible that way by the time we are done eating we can go outside and be ready for the park to open.  Cast Members wont let you walk too far past the restaurant but you can be ready to head to the Safari (or your favorite attraction) as soon as they let you.  If you head straight there, there is hardly ever a wait and the animals are almost always out first thing in the morning!  It is a win win!  Now on to the dining experience at Tusker House.  This is my favorite breakfast and character dining spot on Walt Disney World property.  The food is all you can eat buffet style with a varied menu.  Besides your tradition eggs, bacon and Mickey waffles you can get carved meats and my all time fav Cheese Blintzes.  The characters tend to spend a lot of time with each child and there is even a parade led by goofy!  The Cast Members are always so nice all in all it is a great experience.  If you are looking for a character meal, this is it!

#1 Ohana’s for Dinner-  This meal is by far one of the best overall Disney experiences I have ever had, and continue to have.  First off you should know that this is a very popular place and it is hard to get a reservation.  Don’t forget you can book your reservations 180 days out from your check in date and if you want to dine here I highly recommend being on the phone first thing in the morning!  We always try to get an 8 or 8:30pm reservation for dinner and request a window seat.  Reason being is you have a perfect view of Wishes at Magic Kingdom from the restaurant.  When the firework show starts they dim the lights and pipe in the music.  It is a perfect way to enjoy our meal!  There is also a show that goes on during your meal – hula dancing, coconut races and the limbo are some of what you will enjoy here.  We always leave with tons of paper leis too, they make great reminders of our meal once we are home!  The food is all you can eat family style and is brought right to your table.  Salad and bread start off your meal followed by pork dumplings and Asian chicken wings that are out of this world!  Next is a variety of meats cooked on the worlds largest fire grill including shrimp, chicken, pork and steak.  Side items are broccoli and noodles that my daughter can’t slurp up fast enough.  If your little one isn’t a fan of the food here you can also order them something off of a separate childrens menu that is included in the price.  To top off your dinner you are served a chunk of bread pudding and ice cream that my family just devours.  We enjoy this meal so much we almost always eat here on our first night and our last night.  We really cannot get enough.  If you are on the Disney Dining Plan this is just 1 table service meal credit.  If you are looking to maximize your credits this is the place!  I promise you cannot go wrong eating here!

There you have it! My Top 5 Favorite Disney Meals.  Did any of your favorite make this list? Do you have a question about one of the dining experiences, if so please feel free to leave a comment at the bottom or post over on our facebook page HERE. My favorite meals are not the fanciest or the priceyest on property, but they are 5 meals I really enjoy.  I have never had bad food or bad service at any of them, they truly are our go to meals while we are on vacation!

Hey Guys, Jackie here! I don’t know if you know a lot about me or not but one major part of my life, besides Disney, is being a stay at home mom! I love every aspect about it, except maybe all the laundry, but one thing my daughter and I do a lot that we both enjoy a lot is crafting!  Because we love Disney SO much we often times incorporate Disney into our crafts, and especially when it gets close to our next trip!  We have 70 days until we arrive at Caribbean Beach Resort so its time for me to really start the countdown till we leave!

One thing I always do for my daughter on the way down to Disney is put together a goodie bag for the car ride.  In the goodie bag I always put snacks, candy, toys and games, last year we even gave her her very own camera to take pictures at Walt Disney World – basically anything new and fun to pass the time can go in the bag!  But this year I though, how much fun would it be to actually let her MAKE her own goodie bag that I will fill with things between now and when we leave!   Needless to say she was super excited and it was a great way to start our trip countdown!

So today I am going to show you how to make your very own Tie Dye Mickey Tote Bag! Here is what you will need:

  • Canvas Tote Bag
  • Sharpie Markers
  • Alcohol
  • Eye Droppers
  • Fabric Paint – optional
  • Cups
  • Rubber Bands

Step 1: Start by determining what size you want your Mickey head to be.  I used the wide circle, the top, of a clear plastic cup for the bigger circle of the Mickey head and then flipped the cup over and used the smaller base circle as the ears.  Rubber band your tote bag to the cup where you want your Mickey to be positioned.  (see above picture)

Step 2: Go around the outside of your circle with your sharpie markers making dots or lines all the way around.  You can leave a little white inbetween each dot or not.  This is really up to you and how you want your Mickey to look!  It does not have to be perfect, remember this is supposed to be fun! I was originally going for the tradition Mickey/Minnie colors with the red, black, and red pattern.  But as you can see further down the colors bled to be purple and pink and yellow.  I think it looks great, but I wish I would have tried it out on something first.  So my suggestion is if you have a specific idea on how you want your colors to turn out try it out on an old white t shirt first!

Step 3: Take the alcohol and your eye dropper.  Fill the eye dropper with alcohol and drop onto your dots.  The wetter you get your marks the more it bleeds and spreads out.  Be careful when removing the rubber band, a little bit of the color will transfer to your hands.

Step 4:  Repeat the same process as in Step 2 and 3 but with the smaller circle for the ears.  If you have small children like me, you will want to help them by repositioning the cup for each ear and rubber banding it.  But everything else is easy enough they should be able to do with little or no assistance.

When you are finished you can remove the rubber bands and plastic cups.  Make sure to let this dry with a piece of cardboard or plastic inside so it doesn’t bleed to the backside.  I used a Walmart bag and slipped it in the inside.  Next you can take your fabric paint and decorate your bag however you want! My daughter and I choose to do dots and write our name on them!

These bags were really a lot of fun to make! I can’t wait to find stuff to fill hers up!  In my Mickey Tye Die Tote Bag I am going to put our Disney Itinerary, important info about our trip and some fun travel stuff for me as well! I hope you guys try this craft out and have a wonderful time with your kids! Remember it doesn’t have to look perfect you just have to have a great time!

When I think of food at Walt Disney World, my mind hardly ever goes to Magic Kingdom except to think about the coveted Dole Whip!  I tend to dream and salivate about Ohana, and the Tusker House breakfast until I tried something at the Columbia Harbour House that changed the way I viewed dining at the MK!

I didn’t eat at the Colombia Harbour House until about 4 trips ago, and I am hooked!  The Columbia Harbour House is located in Liberty Square close to the Hall of Presidents and across the street from the Haunted Mansion.  Before I had actually entered the Columbia Harbour House, I always thought it was probably small and crowded but I was wrong.  This place is good sized in the inside with plenty of seating with an upstairs too!  I have never experienced this place to be super busy, although there has always been a line!  I have not had a problem finding a place to sit.  I love how cool the Columbia Harbour House feels on a hot Florida day, it is really refreshing!  Something else I really like about eating here is that there are a lot of outlets by the tables against the wall, and while I don’t know if we are supposed to use them I always plug my iPhone in while dining here!

The Columbia Harbour House is on the Disney Disney Plan as a counter service. With the counter service here you get one drink, one entree with side item and dessert! Something else I like about the Columbia Harbour House is that the portions are generous and you feel like you are getting your money/credits worth!  While there are plenty of items on the menu there is only 1 that I need to share with you!  Next time you visit you need to order the Fried Shrimp basket… it tastes so good!  I always get mine with french fries on the side and a warm and tasty apple crisp!  In the basket there are about 9 large fried shrimp, it is a huge serving!  The shrimp are not greasy either, they are great!  The shrimp basket with a side item will run you about $9.99, but if you are not on the dining plan and concerned about cost I think the platter is big enough to share!

The shrimp basket at the Columbia Harbour House put the Magic Kingdom back on the food map for me and I hope you will give it a try too!  Have you already had the shrimp platter, did you love it?  We would love to hear from you in the comments below or on our facebook page HERE!
