Meeting Merida at Disney World

Meeting Merida at Disney World

Have you been looking forward to meeting Merida at Disney World ever since you first saw “Brave”?  This courageous star’s play and greet area is full of fun for young and old alike.  It is definitely worth a visit during your trip to Disney.

Meeting Merida at Disney World is a fabulous character meet and greet, but it can be tricky to find!  Merida meets princes and princesses in Fairytale Gardens.  Despite looking at the park maps we still had a hard time finding it!  Here’s the gist of finding your way to meet Merida.  While standing in the hub, facing the castle, take the path to the right of the Castle that leads to Fantasyland toward the Mad Hatter’s Tea Party.  Just past the castle on the left, nestled among the Scottish Highlands is our brave princess, Merida.

Be sure to arrive early to meet Merida!  By the time we discovered her the line was just around 40 minutes towards the end of the day.  My advice is to head towards Fantasyland, meet Merida, then hit up the Mad Tea Party, grab a FastPass for Peter Pan’s Flight and enjoy Fantasyland.

Preparing Your Child for Disney Character Greetings

Preparing Your Child for Disney Character Greetings

We all have a favorite Disney Character and meeting these beloved characters is often the highlight of a trip, for adults and children alike!   But how do you prepare your toddler or young child for their first character greetings?   Often times we have an ideal picture of what these meet and greets should look like, but find ourselves as parents faced with a harsh reality when they occur.

When we took our two year old for his first visit it was my goal to make the character greetings process as enjoyable as possible for our whole family so we tried to prepare him ahead of time.  Here are five simple steps to help prevent the character greeting meltdown!

1.  Watch You Tube Videos of Kids Meeting Characters at Disney Parks: Most kids know their favorite Disney characters from movies and TV, however they look different at the parks then they do on the big and small screen.  Showing them videos of kids meeting the actual characters will set up realistic expectations for the child on what to expect at the character greetings.  It’s as simple as searching for “meeting Mickey at Disneyworld”!

2.  Book a character meal early in your trip: A character meal is a great way to meet characters without wasting time in line at the parks.  You can distract your child with the food while you wait and they will get lots of special attention when the character comes around.   In addition, if your child is freaked out by characters you can easily ask for them to bypass your table. Book this meal early in your trip so you can gauge your child’s response to the characters.  This way you’ll know whether you should focus on character greetings or avoid them during the rest of your trip!

St. Patrick’s Day Craft #1: Try On Leprechaun

Supplies: a mirror, craft foam, glue and printable templates

Instructions:

1.  Use your mirror as a base for your leprechaun.

2.  Download the templates for the leprechaun at Spoonful.com.

3.  Cut out and trace templates onto craft foam.

4.  Cut out and glue craft foam onto mirror.

5.  Feel like a leprechaun when you look in the mirror!

This craft is super easy!  I did it with my toddler and he really enjoyed playing with glue and putting the pieces together!   He obviously required more guidance than a school-aged child, but with a little moving around of the pieces, and glue on the mirror, we got the job done and enjoyed seeing a leprechaun when we looked in the mirror!
