Hey y’all …
I’m going to share on of my favorite FREE things to do at WDW !!
A lot of people think Disney and see money signs or say “it’s so expensive to do other things at Disney World outside of going to the parks”.I’m here to tell you that’s not true at all. Most of us are on a budget of some kind and we look for ways to cut costs and have fun while traveling “The World”.

One of the best kept secrets is the Campfire Sing-A-Long with Chip and Dale! It is a nightly foot stopmin’,s’more makin’, Hokey Pokey dancin’ all around fun time *don’t forget the bug spray because they like to show up too!*

Head on over to the Fort Wilderness Campground and look for the Meadow Trading Post campfire area. There is a bus that will take you and drop you off.You can walk on over if you choose too but we take the bus because who doesn’t like to sit when they can?
If you get lost ask a Cowboy or Cowgirl   CM to guide you in the right direction. They usually light the fires in the spring/summer months around 8pm and in the fall/winter months around 7pm.This is an outdoor venue so you would want to check the weather report because they do cancel it if it’s raining.

When you arrive at the campfire area you will see the Chuckwagon Snack Bar where they have kits to make your s’mores and roasting sticks. The kits have everything you need to make s’mores for a family of 4 for around $9.00.But you can always bring your own and purchase your roasting stick there for $0.49! We raided our cabinets before we left and packed all of our s’more goodies in a bag to bring with us.We had more than enough and even had some left over to share with other families around us.
They also have hot dogs, nachos, pizza, soda and water available for purchase as well.At the time we were not able to use our dining plan but things may have changed since August 2011 on our last trip there.

The night starts out with family trivia!! If you are wanting to participate then get there super early! We were disappointed because our daughter knew all of the answers except the year the first Disney Store opened! We would have won the BIG prize of a Disney board game!

Then the singing starts! Cowboy Dan was leading everyone during the Sing A Long when out behind him pop Chip and Dale! They stay on stage for a while entertaining the crowd then come out into the audience to mingle and have family photos taken and also sign autographs. This lasts about 40 minutes. After they make their rounds get ready for some Hokey Pokey dancin’ fun! Our fearless leader was Cowboy Donald Duck and boy did he shake his tail feathers!

When the 2 songs were over they announced the movie of the night. They do change the movies and you can call the reservations desk to see what is playing. We left the party before the movie started because we didn’t need to see Rapunzel for the 1000th time and the mosquitoes were out in full force. Our daughter enjoyed talking to other kids about their vacation and it is something off the beaten path to do without spending a lot of money.

You can also see my Food Confession HERE about making S’mores!

For those of you who don’t know all of the abbreviations of the WDW community it stands for Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party! It’s a must do at least once in your many travels to WDW. We try to plan our trip to Disney World in the fall around the Eat to the Beat concerts and MNSSHP so we can enjoy both.

So what is this party all about ?
It’s all about FUN! It’s a Halloween party for all ages. It’s the only time grown ups can dress up as their favorite character *in a tasteful manner of course* and not feel silly walking  skipping through the MK *Magic Kingdom* collecting candy and singing along with the Boo To You parade. There are many reasons to make this one of your Must Do’s on your WDW Bucket List!

The fireworks are the BEST of the year.Even according to the CM’s the only thing better is fireworks on New Year’s Eve (and that’s even debatable). The fireworks display is called Happy HalloWishes. This is where the Grim Grinning Ghosts come out to socialize. It will have you heading to the closest shop to purchase the special event music CD.*I know because we bought it and have listened to it for almost 6 years now all year long*

You get to Trick or Treat in the happiest place on earth and you children will be the envy of all of their school friends. There are special locations set up for you to trick or treat along with your children. They do not discriminate based on age…they encourage everyone to take a bag when entering the park so that nobody has to argue over candy.

Boo To You Parade is full of floats, music and characters all dressed in their Halloween best. There are floats that come down the parade route from different attractions in the park. You never know who you may see sitting on top of the ghostly Pirate ship that comes sailing past. Our favorite section is the Haunted Mansion portion of the parade. It has changed some over the years but it still is tops.

The Villain Dance Mix and Mingle is a cool show to watch. This one has changed some too. They made Dr. Facilier the center of the show and we were not that impressed with his portion of the show.We love Maleficent and her evil ways.Either way it is a cool way to get your picture taken after the show with your favorite Villain.

Dance Parties!! Who doesn’t like to shake their tail feathers with Donald Duck ?? They have in the past had 2 locations. One in Tomorrowland and the other over at Ariel’s Grotto. These are always a fun thing to do with the little ones who have lots of pinned up energy or who have consumed too much sugar through the night. There are characters who come out to dance with the crowds and make dancing fun!

This is a special ticketed event that requires an additional admission into the the MK during certain nights starting September 11th until November 2nd. If you plan on going to the party on Halloween night you will want to purchase the tickets as soon as you have your travel dates. This is one night that sells out a few months before the party.
The MK closes at 7pm on the nights of MNSSHP to the public but you can enter the park with your special event ticket starting at 4pm.Be sure to get your wristband so that you are not escorted out of the park. We have witnessed this on several occasions in the past. It’s never fun being escorted through the parks by CM’s *Cast Members* doing the walk of shame because you tried sneaking into the party without the proper ticket/wristband.
Also all rides, attractions and restaurants are not open during the Halloween party. This is a little disappointing to some
people but we have always enjoyed the transformation from the typical day in the MK to the fun of the Halloween festivities. Don’t forget you charge your cameras, grab your autograph books and your children for one of the best Halloween parties around!
I hope to see you there this year!

The concerts for the 2012 Food and Wine Festival have just been released.

We love going to the Food and Wine Festival and it’s not only for the different booths of delicious samples of food, desserts or drinks but for the free concerts!

The concerts are held at the America Gardens Theatre starting September 28th running until November 11th. They are held nightly at 5:15,6:30 and 7:45 but times and preformers are subject to change. The concerts are free but you still need admission into Epcot to enjoy these shows.

If it’s someone you really want to see you should be there lining up about 30 to 45 minutes before they start letting people in to be seated.Last year we had to go to the final show of STARSHIP because both of the earlier shows were packed. And a lot of people that live locally usually do come out to the Food and Wine Festival to enjoy the concerts and food.

Here is the list of who is scheduled to appear:

9/28-9/30: Night Ranger
10/1-10/3: Sugar Ray
10/4- 10/7: STARSHIP starring Mickey Thomas

10/11-10/12: Smash Mouth
10/13-10/14: Javier Colon, winner of “The Voice”
10/15-10/17: Air Supply
10/18-10/19: Gin Blossoms
10/20-10/21: Survivor
10/22-10/23: Hanson

On our trips to WDW we try to do something new each time that we haven’t done before. This past trip I thought it would be fun to try out the Tomorrowland Terrace Dessert Party!! Desserts, prime viewing of the fireworks and Disney…what could be better right ?!

I called and checked on getting reservations about 1 month before our travel dates. You can contact me and I would be glad to assist you with reservations. I do recommend that you book at least a few weeks in advance because seating is limited and during the busy months it tends to fill up fast. The price per child $15.97 and price per adult $29.81.

It is suggested that you check in 1 hour before Wishes starts. You will make your way to the Noodle Station and there is a podium set up where you will receive a wristband for each member of your party. When you get your wristband you are guided to your table where there is a place card with your last name and party size on it.

If you are unfortunate to be seated at the back of the terrace *as we were* you can stand at the railing to watch Wishes. You are not allowed to bring a chair to the railing though.

The buffet of desserts was very overwhelming!! We ate an early supper just so we could enjoy the desserts we knew that we would be enjoying later that night. It was rather late when we had our party *9:15pm* but our food had time to settle.

They had fresh strawberries, pineapple, cantaloupe, watermelon and grapes for those who were looking for a healthy alternative. Then you had cannolis, fruit tarts, mini key lime tarts, rice krispy treats and much more for those who are wanting to live it up!

We discovered a shot glass size glass that had some sort of orange creamsicle type concoction in it…That was the BEST! The drinks of the night were water, lemonade *very tart I might add*,milk and coffee.

I personally was not impressed with the view from the terrace during the fireworks. It is not a straight view of the castle so the castle is not in front of you when the fireworks are lighting up the nighttime sky.And if you are seated in the back of the area the overhang is too low that you can’t sit in your seat.So standing at the railing is the best option. The cool thing to my 7 yr old daughter was that Tinkerbell flies right over your head.

If you are looking for something off the beaten path to do or you have something special to celebrate while on your trip to Disney World this is a wonderful way to celebrate!

We headed over to the Grand Floridian on the monorail to trade the last of our Vinylmations before the trip back to GA.As we exited the shop
we took a moment to look over the balcony one last time before our memorable trip was coming to an end.And we spotted something that wasn’t
there a few days before when we had enjoyed dinner at 1900 Park Fare with Cinderella. There was an amazing display of HUGE Easter eggs.
We had to check it out……
To our delight the lobby wasn’t very busy and it was the perfect opportunity to check each one out and not feel rushed.Apparently from the sign
this was their First Annual Easter Egg Display. They have displayed eggs similar to these for the past 15 years in the restaurants at the Grand Floridian
and have decided to share them with everyone.
I can’t imagine the time and effort it took to decorate some of these eggs. They were all so beautifully done and the cast members did an amazing job
recreating scenes from some of our favorite Disney movies. There were others that were decorated with such detail in the flowers and butterflies they
could be mistaken for  Faberge eggs.
I can’t wait to go back next spring for the Flower and Garden Festival to see what they have on display!! I’m guessing we might see a scene from Brave
on one of them.
Resort hopping is always something fun to do especially around the holidays. You never know what you may discover.

If the heat has taken its toll or you have eaten a little too much during lunch at San Angel Inn here are a few places to catch a little Siesta (but don’t tell anyone that I told you it was ok) . This is to keep you from turning green on those rides you should avoid after eating a good filling meal!

My favorite spot to catch a quick nap in the summer heat is the American Adventure at Epcot. The combination of the air conditioner and the darkness puts me to sleep like a baby.Just be sure to let your travel party know to bump you if you start to snore.I don’t think that we would want to disturb history during the writing of the Declaration of Independence.

Another soothing place is Finding Nemo the Musical at Animal Kingdom. Not that the show isn’t worth watching but after a long day at Animal Kingdom this is the best way to catch a power nap so you can finish out your day. It’s a little loud with the music but if you are desperate for a nap nothing can stop you from drifting off to dreamland with Nemo and friends.

Spaceship Earth is another Epcot favorite. The soothing sound of the narrator in your ear,the darkness of the “big golf ball” and the cool breezes you catch from the movement through the ride.It is one of the better places to nap because the cars are pretty comfy and there is not a lot of noise or lights.

Muppet Vision  3D isn’t a bad place to catch a few winks. The seats are like movie theatre seats so they are a little more comfy than some the hard benches you could be napping on around the park.Plus it’s dark and cool inside.Your 3D Muppet Vision glasses are the perfect cover up so nobody around you sees what you are up to.Just be sure to wake up before the ending of the show….you wouldn’t want to be scared out of your nap.It might make you cranky for the remainder of the day.

I can’t believe that I’m admitting to this one.It is my favorite show of all times and I try to stay awake for every rotation through the dark cool theater. The Carousel of Progress. There I said it.I have been known to snooze through every great big beautiful tomorrow chorus.I have loved this show since I was a very little girl and there is not a trip that we don’t sit through it multiple times.

But when you are hopping from park to park day after day, eating wonderful food and indulging in Dole Whips it makes it a little hard to stay awake for entire day. It’s easier than heading back to your resort and crawling into bed..so fill your belly with some delicious Disney food and head over to one of these attractions to catch a little Disney induced Siesta.

Maple Creme Brulee from Le Cellier Recreation

Ingredients:
1 pint heavy cream
6 oz. whole milk
12 oz. (1 1/2 cups) granulated sugar
12 oz. (15 eggs) egg yolks
2 teaspoons maple extract

Method:
Heat heavy cream, whole milk and granulated sugar over double boiler until sugar is dissolved (110F). DO NOT WHIP. Stir only.
Place in a large mixing bowl. Slowly add 1/3 of cream mixture to egg yolks, stirring to temper egg yolks.
Add remaining cream mixture. Stir to blend well.
Add maple extract to previous mixture.
Strain mixture through fine mesh strainer.

Add enough water in the bottom of each cake pan to fill 1/4 the way up the serving dishes.
Bake in a low oven — 275 degrees — for approximately 2 to 2 1/2 hours. The desserts should be “set” firm but not hard,
with a little wiggle when you shake it gently.
Sprinkle cooled custards with sugar and melt with a torch.

We love everything Disney but the ornaments are one of the best parts of vacation!
Before our daughter was born we made several trips but for some reason we never collected
ornaments *I believe that I’ll start buying one extra per trip for our memories Before Erinlee*.
When our daughter was born we knew it would be a while before making it to the Happiest Place on
Earth because you see my husband is in the Navy.We were stationed in England and didn’t want to make
a trip to FL for vacation so we were saving up for the time when we did make it back home.
Our daughter was 4 months old for her first Christmas and we bought her a set of Pooh Bear Storybook
Ornaments and this is when the tradition started.Every year since we have found a set that fits her personality
or her favorite Disney characters for that year.I write a few paragraphs on the inside cover just to remind her
how special she is to us and where we were for that special Christmas. She gets to open them on Christmas Eve to hang for Santa to see.
Last year we had to buy them from a third party because apparently Disney isn’t selling them anymore.I bought Sleeping Beauty
because that is her favorite Princeess. This year I found a “set” but it’s not the same without the storybook but I will try and find
a special set every Christmas for her as long as I can.

We also buy Hidden Mickey ornaments on every trip we make.Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party,Birthdays,Cheer Competitions

and Disney Cruises. They are all complete with the dates we travel, the purpose of the trip and the special PIXIE DUST added by the
CM.

I hope you have a MAGICAL Christmas and a WONDERFUL 2012!!

Where can you find it?
Disney’s Hollywood Studios-Starring Rolls Cafe

What is it?
A chocolate cupcake with a chocolate creme filled center topped with butter cream frosting dipped in Butterfinger crumbled
goodness. This is a sweet lovers DREAM dessert!!

Why you want it-
It is one of the best desserts in “The World” and it is a mountain of sugary goodness to get you through the day!!
You can get this as a dessert with your meal at Starring Rolls instead of the typical chocolate cake! It is also $3.99 OR
1 Snack Credit on the Dining Plan. And don’t forget a mug of milk to wash it down with.

Photo courtesy of Janet Deane *who admitted to having 2 on her recent trip*.
Thank you Janet for the YUMMIE photo!

*Here is a recipe I found online just in case anyone wants to bring a little Disney into your home*

Starring Rolls Butterfinger Cupcake recreation

1 box Devil’s Food Cake mix, plus ingredients to make cake
1 can fudge frosting
4 cups chocolate chips
6 Tbsp canola oil
3 (3.7 oz) King Size Butterfingers

Quick Butter cream Frosting
18 Tbsp butter, softened
6 Tbsp milk
1 Tbsp vanilla
6 3/4 cups powdered sugarPrepare cupcakes as stated on the box. Let cupcakes cool completely.

Using a sharp knife, cut a cone shape out on top of the cupcake. Make sure your cut goes about halfway into the cupcake. Remove the cake and fill the hole with fudge frosting. Add the cake you removed to the top of the cupcake, making sure that the pointy cone end is sticking up.

Prepare the butter cream frosting. Mix together all the ingredients and beat on medium for 3 minutes, until fluffy. Ice your cupcakes. It may be easiest to use a piping bag for this. Let the frosting set up for 30 minutes.

While the frosting is setting up, use a food processor to crush up Butterfingers. It may be easiest to use frozen Butterfingers.

Combine chocolate chips and oil in a medium microwave-safe bowl. Heat on HIGH for 1 minute. Stir and continue to heat at 30 second intervals until completely melted. Allow to cool for 5-10 minutes before using. Dip the frosted cupcakes into the chocolate – I used a spoon to hold the frosting into place to make sure it didn’t fall off the cupcake. Immediately coat the cupcake with the pulverized Butterfingers – just smash it all over the chocolate. Repeat until all cupcakes are dipped and covered. Refrigerate approximately 1 hour to allow the chocolate to set up.

Fort Wilderness Resort – Campfire Sing-A-Long with Chip and Dale

What is it?
S’mores made by you! Ooey Gooey Goodness made from graham crackers, marshmallows, and chocolate..YUMMM

Why you want it-
Because where else in “The World” can you make s’mores sitting by a campfire, singing along with Chip, Dale and Cowboy Dan? You can bring your own or you can buy S’more kits at the Chuckwagon  Snack Bar.

If you choose to bring your own you can purchase your “stick” there for $0.49!! If you need to purchase the full kit it is around $9.00 and is enough for 4 people.

They light the fires at around 7pm in the fall and winter months. And 8:00pm during the spring and summer months.Be sure to get there early to participate in the trivia games and to get a good seat.Chip and Dale make their rounds to have group/family photos taken too!! And don’t forget to stick around for the movie! You can call the front desk at your resort and they can tell you which movies will be playing. In the event of inclimate weather it will be cancelled because it is an outdoor event.

**There are also campfire s’more nights at Grand Floridian,Beach Club and Port Orleans Riverside (seasonal). But these locations do not have character interaction)
