I typically have a sweet tooth, but ocaionally I crave something salty and delicious.  Today we’re taking a look 10 of my favorite salty snacks at Disney World.  Let’s dig in !

#1 Soft Pretzels (Mickey shaped taste EVEN better)

The chewy salt sprinkled exterior encases a delicate soft interior.  There ain’t nothin’ wrong with a delectable soft pretzel (especially when it’s formed in the shape of The Mouse!).  Soft pretzels provide the perfect salty snack, not too over the top with salt, but enough to tap into the savory taste bud and fulfill what you are craving. Dip it in mustard or cheese and you’ve got your self the perfect little sprinkle of salty goodness!

#2 Popcorn

It’s really impossible to walk into any Disney park and not crave popcorn.  The smell of buttery, salty goodness permeates the air and you inevitably will have a hankering for this poppable treat!  Available at literally every corner, this salty treat is affordable and great for sharing.  Wash it down with a cold soda and you’ve found just about the perfect pick me up!

#3 Turkey Legs

There huge, portable, and perfectly savory for a salty treat!  The best place, hands down to nosh on this gigantic leg of poultry is where you feel like a pioneer, Frontierland!  You can’t beat eating with your hands and listening to some music from the old west!  This treat is sure to take you back to a simpler, saltier time! Yee-haw!

#4 Hot Dogs

You can’t beat a good hot dog!  You can find this savory treat throughout Disney World.  You can get them stacked with everything from traditional toppings like ketchup and mustard to flavored with flair like Macaroni and Cheese to Chili  to Barbecue Slaw topped dogs…Disney’s got you covered!

#5 Pizza

Pizza is one of my favorite salty treat. I love a good artisan crust and fine toppings, I love cheap and ordinary, I just love this saucy, cheesy, crusty concoction!  One of my favorite spots to get a quick pizza is found in Disney’s Hollywood Studios at Pizza Planet.  While the pizza’s aren’t
“out of this world” in extraordinary ingredients or toppings, they are delicious and will make your tummy smile!  Settle up with a slice (or 2) and satisfy what your mouth desires!

#6 Macaroni and Cheese

There is ALWAYS room for Mac and Cheese…ALWAYS.  I love this classic cult cheese lover’s favorite, especially the kind serve up at Disney World!  You can find it on the menu at many restaurants and it even comes as an entree on some kids meals…okay that might be a bit much (in addition to all these other foods) but it is SO good!

#7 Fries

I love fries and I don’t care who knows it!  I don’t eat them that often so, when I do, I really want them to be all that they can be!  Crispy and tender, salty and delicious! I’m no fry snob, I’ll eat fast food or fine dining.  A little bit of ketchup and mustard (is that weird???)  and I’m set! You can find fries a plenty throughout the parks. Get fancy with your fries or eat straight up!

#8 Corn Dog/ Corn Dog Nuggets

There’s something about corn dogs that makes me think about the fun and fancy free feeling you get at the fair.  Disney definitely trumps just about any fair, so why not enjoy this classic at Disney World.  Portable on a stick or poppable froma cup.

#9 Pickles

Pickles are probably the poster child for salty food lovers!  The crisp, refreshing, salty, crunch will satisfy that craving for salt like none other!  Find them conveniently throughout the parks.  The best way to eat them is cold and crisp and en route to a great ride!

#10 Pork Shank

For the Turkey Leg lovers, there’s another hand held salty delight!  The Pork Shank is like a handheld summer BBQ.  Crispy caramelized edges give way to fall off the bone perfection.  I recommend picking up your pork shank at Gaston’s Tavern.  This piece of meaty goodness will deliver the savory flavors you want!

Okay, so who’s hungry now?  I know I am!  What are your favorite salty eats at Disney World (or any Disney Park).  Share it with us below!  I’d love to add some savory delights to my dining bucket list!

As always, thanks for reading and commenting!

Ladies and gentlemen of the class of 99…remember to wear sunscreen.  If I could offer you only one tip for the future, it would be to wear sunscreen.  The long-term benefits of sunscreen have been proved by scientist…

Sorry, I couldn’t resist.   So, did I take anyone down memory lane?  I probably just pegged my age for you.  Yes, I’m from a time of boy bands, power bead bracelets, and Dawson’s Creek–and I don’t care who knows!  If you remember these haunting lyrics, then you’ll probably appreciate the solid advice delivered through the cryptic words of Baz Luhrmann even more now, in your—older, wiser age.  Okay, enough with the late 90s, let’s talk Disney; that’s why you’re here after all!  Today we’re talking all things sun protecting and we’re focusing in on the powerful protection bottled in three letters…SPF!  Let’s “cover” a little sun protection to make your time at Disney, simply delightful.

What exactly is Sunscreen?

According to skincancer.org , sunscreens are products combining ingredients to protect you from the suns harmful ultraviolet rays.  These rays include the UVA  (longer ray that causes lasting damage to the skin like damage, skin aging, and skin cancer) and UVB (shorter rays that cause sunburn/damage to skin and can cause skin damage).  Sunscreen protects your skin according to it’s SPF (Sun Protection Factor).  Sunscreen’s come in a wide variety of SPF ranges from minimal like the SPF 2 tanning oils to heavier coverage like SPF 70 found in many sports sunblocks.  Today you can purchase sunscreens that are offers broad-spectrum coverage, meaning it protects from both UVA and UVB Rays.

Do I need to reapply my Sunscreen?

YES!  Sunscreen, even at the higher end of the SPF range need to be reapplied.  No matter if you’re a lotion fan or spray fan, applying and reapplying sunscreen is the most effective way for this type of sun protection to work.  In a very basic sense, here’s how you can determine when to reapply (and no, it’s not when you’re feeling crispy).  According to my research, it takes approximatley 20 minutes for unprotected skin to begin to burn. Applying an SPF, let’s say of 15 will increase that time by a factor of 15 (20 x 15) that means that you’ll be “covered” for 300 minutes.  That may seem like a simple theory to “apply” (forgive me), but it’s not that simple.  Reapplication depends on many factors, including the wear of the sunscreen (like sweating, getting wet, etc.).  Don’t forget to factor in these considerations throughout the day and PACK your own sunscreen (don’t overpay in the parks).

Is Sunscreen the only option for sun protection?

Sunscreen is a good choice for sun protection, but there are lots of other ideas that you can use in combination with sunscreen to lather up on the benefits.  There are so many new technologies in protective clothing that have sun protecting qualities.  Look for clothing items created using a special sun protective textile called UPF (Ultraviolet Protective Factor).  You can find hats, pants, shirts, bathing suits, even accessories like gloves, scarves, and sunglasses.  Protect your whole body from the sun!

What to do if you experience the…BURN?

There are all sorts of remedies out there, but my favorite comes in the form of aloe with pain relief and ibuprofen!  Keeping hydrated and keeping your sore skin moisturized will help.  The best way to get over the burn from too much sun is to AVOID too much sun!  Lather up and keep your skin happy!

Where are the best places in the parks to apply and reapply?

Finding a spot that is out of the line of traffic to do a reapplication of SPF is crucial.  You don’t want to be over spraying onto unsuspecting families, stopping the flow of traffic, or creating a human blockade through some of the best attractions.  Look for spots that are off the beaten path (like the space outside of restrooms, park benches, etc.)  I love the bathroom are near Pirates of the Caribbean, the Tangled Restroom area, the restrooms near the Crossroads of the World at DHS, and the breezeways at Innoventions east and west in EPCOT, just to name a few.  No matter what location you chose, just be mindful of the other guests!

I hope these tips and suggestions will help you to enjoy your times under the sun in the Disney Parks this summer.  Take care of yourself!  It’s really brutal out there, make sure that you take into consideration these preventative tips and you’ll be a happy camper!  So now it’s time to turn before you burn and share out in the comment section below!   Tell us about your sunscreen nightmare.  Did you forget to apply, miss a spot, burn to a crisp, have a sunscreen explosion, or have to overpay in the parks?  Let’s laugh (I mean learn from your experience) about it together!

As always, thanks for reading and commenting!

See ya real soon,

cinnamon roll Gaston's Tavern

Y’all, if sticky and gooey is wrong…well, I don’t want to be right!  This morning, as I’m typing this post, I’m coming off of a 20 minute search for the perfect Disney Dining Breakfast.  After the continuous quest for what I was hungry for (that is my everlasting longing for Disney World) wasn’t quenched with my bowl of granola topped fruit, I realized that what I really wanted—-scratch that—– what I craved was the delectable confection found under the antler clad halls of Gaston’s Tavern.  (whew…that was a LONG, packed sentence–sorry okay, not sorry).  So, today I figure that if my tastes buds can’t actually be satisfied by a cinnamon roll the size of my head, at least my thoughts can!  That’s why I’m bring at you, something that I think tastes SO good!  Today we’re cyber noshing on pure sugary goodness!  Let’s roll!

Indulge with me if you will…You’ve just walked Down Main Street USA and made your way into the New Fantasyland area and you stumble across the ever-so vain statue of a fully flexing Gaston.  The air is thick with the aromas of cinnamon laced sugar and yeast.  The moment you smell it you’re drawn in.  You enter the Tavern and your eyes are fixed on the glory, the splendor, THE pastry of your dreams (okay, so maybe it’s a cinnamon roll, but it’s not just any cinnamon roll) it’s a magical cinnamon roll that begs to be eaten by you.  Calories, move over, you’ve got to get your hands on one of these rolls.

The considerate side of you would say share, but everybody knows the sweet tooth is louder!  Don’t share that thing!  So what, if you eat so much that you get sick, it doesn’t really matter!  It’ll be the best sugar rush you’ve EVER had!  Let yourself unwind in the swirling layers of this divine delicacy!  The soft dough is served up warm and ready to devour.  Grab a coffee or a LeFou’s Brew and get ready to enter into a dangerous land.  A land where you’re writing paragraphs on a random Saturday morning in June, all about a cinnamon roll. I need an intervention…who are we kidding, I need some Disney World!!!

I hope that my fellow Disney World cinnamon roll lovers will appreciate this post.  Maybe you’re able to eat one today in the parks, maybe you’re just enjoying the computer version.  No matter how you’re enjoying this creation that I’m craving, I hope that we’ll all be able to satisfy this hunger soon!  Share with us below your favorite Disney World pastry, who knows, you might just see it show up here on a “Tastes SO Good” post!

As always, thanks for reading and commenting!

See ya real soon,

Ashley

You’ve mapped it out for months.  Spreadsheets created, itineraries nailed down, packing list printed, and suitcases fully stocked and then it happens…you get to the most magical place on Earth only to realize you forgot to pack ___________ (you fill in the blank).  There are a few options you can:

a.) leave property and brave the Superstore crowd (of course that will require you to have a car or means of transportation)

b.) go without __________ (of course…is that realistic)

c.) find it on property

So,  today we’re going to be looking at where you can find a few of those “uh-oh” items without leaving Disney property.  Let’s get packing!!!

*Disclaimer:  Buying on property may cost you.  Be aware that prices may be up, especially when there is a demand.

HELP!  I forgot:  Toothbrush…

No worries!  Dental woes will not get you down when you’re visiting Mickey!  Luckily, every Disney World hotel comes with it’s own…you guessed it…GIFT SHOP.  That’s right, you can find more than just souvenirs in these gift shops.  There like mini-marts stocked with just about any personal toiletry item you could ever need.  With everything from the run-of-the-mill tube of toothpaste to deodorant, mouthwash, dental floss,  hairspray, chapstick and everything in between, you can find the things that keep you so fresh and clean.  Disney’s got you covered when it comes to personal hygiene products.

HELP!  I forgot: Diapers…

Oh baby…you’re gonna be in a world of hurt without diapers and baby supplies!  What to do?  No worries, you can find diapers and various other baby items throughout the resort in hotel gift shops as well as at baby care centers throughout the four theme parks.  You’ll be more likely to find a wider selection of baby care items in your hotel gift shop than you will in the parks.  You’ll be able to find baby powder, wipes, diaper cream, diapers, and so much more in gift shops on Disney property!  No tears!  Disney’s got your baby covered…even if you forgot!

From Disney’s website:

Baby Care Centers in Each Park offer on-site shop offering formula, baby food, juice, diapers, wipes, sunscreen, over-the-counter medications and clothing for purchase.

HELP!  I forgot: Batteries….

You’ve really got to be plugged in when you are in the parks. From batteries to memory cards, you need to be able to capture the memories and capture the magic!  If you forget these items, you are in luck because they can easily be found throughout the parks and resort hotel gift shops.  You’ll also be able to find cell phone accessories, like portable chargers, cases, and accessories.  Stock up so you don’t leave Disney without the memories.

HELP!  I forgot:  Asprin…

No matter what your small medicine needs may be (we’re talking over-the counter medicines), Disney’s pretty much got you covered!  You can buy everything from heartburn medicine to motion sickness pills, asprin, and more.  In fact, you can find other first aid necessities like bandaids, sore muscle cream, and antibacterial cream, and needs for whatever else might ail you.  If you’re in the parks and in a pinch find the first aid station for free bandaids, ointments, etc.

HELP!  I forgot: Sunscreen…

Sunburn is not a fun thing!  That’s why I highly recommend you lather up and protect your precious skin!  If you forgot your sunscreen, sunglasses, hats or anything else that might protect you from the scorching sun.  You can find sun protection just about everywhere you go throughout the Walt Disney World Resort.  You’ll be able to find it at your hotel gift shop, at kiosks around the parks, and in various shops throughout the resorts.

No worries if you forget your _____________.  You can find just about anything you might need without leaving the magic of the parks.  If you find yourself in a forgetful state, don’t fret!  You can find it at Disney! So what’s the funniest thing you ever forgot to pack?  Share your story with us in the comment section below!

As always, thanks for reading and commenting!

See ya real soon,

Ashley

There are thrills and fun around ever corner at Walt Disney World!  From the fast paced rides, big drops, loud noises, and everything else in between, it’s good to know what to expect when you are making your way through the parks.  Today I’m sharing with you my top 10 list of rides/attractions where you might get wet.  Maybe you’ll seek out these rides as a means to cool down.  Maybe you’ll plan around these rides to avoid a soak.  I’ll go ahead and say that many of the rides I’ve selected for this top 10 list are not a SOAKING wet type of wet, but there is a chance that you’ll leave a little more damp than you entered.  For organization purposes, the closer we get to #1, the wetter I think you’ll get. The top 3 are a bit of a tie for me, hopefully the way I organized this will help you gauge the wet factor!  Let’s get splashin!

10. Stitch’s Great Escape

Think squirting not so much soaking for this attraction.  As Stitch makes his Great Escape, you’ll see that he resorts to throwing off the DNA guns by sending his salavia soaring through the audience.  Be prepared to get a squirt or two.  I like this heads up, not because I’ll know to bring a change of clothes, you’ll probably be dry by the end of the show; rather, I like to mentally prepare for random squirts of “spit” to the face! (wet scale:  a tissue would remedy the water you’ll encounter in this attraction)

9. Jungle Crusie

Okay so we’re still on the tame side, but folks, you NEVER know what’s gonna happen on the jungle cruise.  From the crazy antics of those water spraying elephants to the dangers of the backside of water, you might get a teensy sprinkling.   None the less, if you’re hoping to stay pristine, you might be on the lookout for errant water drops. (wet scale: much like Stitch’s Great Escape, the wet factor here will be minimal at best.  A cloth to clean off sunglasses/glasses might be your best tool.)

8. Pirates of the Caribbean

The past few times I’ve ridden Pirates of the Caribbean, I’ve gotten splashed and walked off with a wet bottom.  I found the wettest parts of this other wise tame boat ride to be during the short fall and the scene with the cannons.  Make sure you check the bench seat of the boat before setting sail, you might be able to avoid the wet bottom.  I always make sure to stow away any “treasure”  (such as my camera and phone) before taking this voyage.  (wet scale:  you might need a paper towel or a few good minutes to let your bottom dry off…just long enough to get to the next ride!)

7.  Big Thunder Mountain

Who doesn’t love the wildest ride in the wilderness?  I know I do!  There are a few parts of this rip roaring good ride that you might find a  good refreshing mist or even a bit of a splash as you make your way through the gold mines.  Get ready for a wild ride with the possibility of a bit of wet!  (wet scale:  dry off with the ride, if needed a paper towel might come in handy).

6. The Maelstrom

World Showcases’ most exciting ride can be found within the Norway Pavilion!  The Maelstrom takes you through the viking and troll days of Norway’s past to modern day Norway with an exciting drop over the falls.  Don’t worry, you won’t be soaked to the bone, but you might just enjoy a refreshing splash of Water as the troll sends you on a free fall.  (wet scale:  again a paper towel will probably do the trick, the closer to the front of the boat, the more likely you’ll get a little wetter.)

5. Magic Carpets of Aladdin

My nephew loves this ride!  I’ve had more than my fair share of spins on Aladdin’s carpets and I’ve had my fair share of water torture by way of spitting camel.  As you ride, you have the ability to maneuver the carpet up and down and tilt it front and back-these maneuvers would be most beneficial to avoid becoming the camel’s target.  (wet scale:  if that camel gets you, you’re gonna have some splash damage.  A good wipe down with a paper towel will probably be your best bet.)

4.  Honey, I Shrunk the Kids Movie Set Adventure

This attraction isn’t going to get you soaked to the bone, but innocent park guest have become the target for flying water shot from  larger than life water guns and garden hoses.  Keep your eyes peeled and listen for the sound of the splatter if you want to avoid the soak.  Then again, if you want to take advantage of the cool down, make your way through the forest of faux grass and get your splash on! (wet scale”  if you get a blast from the Supersoaker water gun or hose, you’re gonna need some dry time.  Perhaps a trip by the bathroom to use the hand dryer.)

3.  Splash Mountain

Oh my gracious I love this ride!  I love the drops, the song, the scenery, I even love the completely soaked behind that I walk proudly away with.  This ride is pretty much a guaranteed soaker.  From the multiple drops to the sloshing water as your log raft makes its way to the happy place, you’re in for a wet ride.  I always put my backpack inside of my poncho before stowing it away for the ride, that way my camera and other personal items don’t get ruined.  I say the wetter the better—that’s really what this ride is all about.  (wet scale:  You’re probably going to experience wet clothes and shoes, there is a possibility of getting wet on the face, so you might want to pack a poncho to wear for the ride or bring a beach towel to dry off!)

2.   Casey Jr. Splash and Soak

Okay, so if you dare enter this play area, be prepared to be soaked.  I highly recommend avoiding this area if you don’t want to get wet, especially if you are with little ones (the lure is too great to make your way past this splash area without a meltdown).  The play area features a water play area complete with a circus train of soaking good fun.  Packing an extra set of clothes might be your best route.  In the Florida heat, this area is a welcome relief! (wet scale:  if you’re gonna play here you’re gonna be soaked.  If you don’t mind drippy clothes and soggy shoes, then you might want to bring a beach towel and change of clothes/shoes.  This ones a dozy.)

1.  Kali River Rapids

Think wet rat.  That is EXACTLY what is most probably going to happen on this ride.  From head to toe, you are subject to getting soaked to the core!  I will go say up front that there is always “that person” who either a.) Gets hit by every single drop of water and walks off looking like they’ve been swimming or b.) Stays as dry as a bone.  I’ve been both.  Either way, it’s best to prepare for this ride.  Since you do have the possibility of being soaked, plan ahead as to when you’ll ride, packing a change of clothes/shoes  (if you need to).  You can take some steps to minimize the wet factor, like wearing a poncho (oh yes, I’ve totally been that girl).  Also, it helps to put your feet up on the bar when you ride, that way your feet will stay relativity dry.  Finally, make sure you keep anything you want to stay dry inside the protected area and double up by placing any thing that is electronic, etc. in a ziplock baggy inside of your park bag.  (wet scale:  there’s a VERY good chance that you are going to be wet to the core.  Bringing a change of clothes, a beach towel, and extra shoes (don’t forget socks) is a good idea.  You don’t want to have to resort to the hand dryers for this one.  You’ll most likely be dripping head to toe!)

I hope you’ve enjoyed this fun list of my top 10 rides/attractions where you might get wet.  Don’t say we didn’t warn you!  From the miniscule mist to the spectacular soak, this list has you covered!  Share with us your tips for these wet rides in the comment section below.

I can’t wait to get my hands on a few of these products.  I especially love the special packaging…yeah, even for a higher price.  I’ve heard lots of reviews on this limited edition release.  Some people are well,  underwhelmed by the re-release of old colors (from past limited edition releases) as well as items that are already a part of MAC’s permanent line.  Either way you look at it, if you’re a HUGE Disney or Maleficent fan, we’ll consider it vile and perfect in every way.  I wish I could figure out how to type out Maleficent’s signature wicked laugh…mwhaaa haaa haa, haaaa haaaa….work with me people!

If you are anything like me, you are a self admitted Disney Addict.  People know you as the Disney girl (or guy), you’re known for your trip suggestions, and Disney is more of a common  thread in your day than cotton.  Yes, you my friend are among good company.  We are the Disney people and we get each other.  Today I’m speaking to you as well as to those new to this Disney lifestyle.  I’m sharing my top 10 ways to incorporate Disney into your daily life (can we say #DisneySide???)

10.  Start your day off Disney style!

From the most simple Disney themed mug to the most amazing Mickey shaped waffles, there are many ways to begin your day the Disney way!  Take some inspiration from the parks, with a Disney recipe or just kick back with your resort mug full of steaming hot coffee and get things going in Disney style.  This is sure to get your day off to a better start!

9.  Get animated!

Draw inspiration from your favorite Disney movies, characters, and the parks when you pick your clothes.  You can customize your look as much or as little as you want.  I love work of Disneybound’s Leslie Kay.  She has some awesome outfits that range from everyday (not too out there) to over the top designs.  Start simple, with a nod to a character or ride and see where your creativity takes you!  I have a set of stack rings that bought expressly because they remind me of the bubbles that flank the stage of Finding Nemo the Musical!  It’s amazing how something as little as a hair accessory, bow tie, or set  of rings can put a Disney smile on your face!

8.  Put some Pixie Dust at your workplace!

I always joke that my office has a mouse problem.  No, I’m not talking about the pests that feast on the crumbs.  I’m talking about The Mouse…Mickey!  I’m a kindergarten teacher so my assortment includes loads of Vinylmations that students bring back from Disney World, Disney Cruises, and stops past the Disney Store–as well as other toys and trinkets, a Cinderella Castle cookie jar (because it is beautiful and handy for snacks), Disney picture frames, and probably just about every other Disney drawing or thing that a 5 year old could ever make or find.  Maybe you wouldn’t be as extreme as me, but I highly encourage you to let your Disney Side show at work!  From Disney themed wall calendars to mouse pads, picture frames, pin displays, and everything in between, you can show your Disney Side at work and brighten up your space (that’s one way to put some whistle into your work day).

7.  Get a Disney Ringtone!

They say that music can bring back memories and take you back in time.  I say how about applying that theory to your Disney memories.  There are so many great Disney songs that make for the perfect ringtone.  Let everyone around you know that you’re a Disney Addict!

6.  Get a Disney Watch!

This seems simple, but there is power in looking down at your watch only to see Mickey or another Disney character looking back at you!  I have an awesome Disney watch that looks very sophisticated; its gold with Mickey’s face done up in rhinestones.  It makes me so happy as I look down at it and my students love it.  Who says adults can’t have a fun watch?  I do!

5.  Listen to Disney Music!

I’m a firm believer that there is the perfect Disney song for every occasion.  Seriously.  Whether you’re happy, sad, or just somewhere in between, Disney’s got you covered!  I bought music from the parks to bring home to listen to in my car, on runs, and throughout my day.  Maybe you’ll find your magic with some internet playlist listening!  Either way, there is no better way to get out of a grumpy morning mood than the “There’s a Great Big  Beautiful Tomorrow!”  Give it a try and show your Disney Side!

4.  Get Disney Wallpaper (not that kind…)

With the vast amounts of mobile devices, computers, tablets out there, your digital world is just begging to be taken over by your Disney Obsession.  From pictures you snapped in the parks to official wallpapers and lock-screens, you’ll find your fill of Disney fantasy for every corner of your life.  Disney-fy your digital self!

3.  Eat Disney!

Get your Disney grub on!  From awesome movie nights to creating some of your favorite park recipes, there’s nothing like the taste of Disney to take you back!  I like the adventurous recipes, like conjuring up your own Dole Whip or Tonga Toast!  Try your hand at some Disney dining and live out your park days all of your days!

2.  Get your Ride Fix on the Internet!

I love modern technology!  There’s so much to see on the internet!  One of my favorite ways to get my Disney fix is to browse through videos on Youtube and live streams.  From official Disney Park’s Channel to fan videos of rides, attractions, and parades, I watch it all!  It’s like I can be at Disney World Everyday…okay, the next best thing!

1.  Stay Connected! Chip and Co. and Disney Addict Page

What’s the best way to fill your life with Disney?  I’ll take a hint from Buddy the Elf and say that the best way to spread Disney cheer is talking with other addicts far and near (I edited him a teeny bit).  That’s right, you can get your Disney fix from fellow DA (Disney Addicts) by keeping up with Chip and Co. for all the latest park news, tips, and more.  You can get plugged into a great network of addicts through our forums and the You Might Be a Disney Addict page on Facebook!  Once you plug in here, you’ll be able to connect through social media like Twitter and Instagram and your Disney networking can grow!  Get connected and spread the magic!

So what do you do already to show your Disney Side, every day?  Share your magic in the comment section below!  Don’t forget to connect with other’s by using the hashtag, #DisneySide and #YMBADA (this is for You might be a Disney addict).

As always, thanks for reading and commenting!

Spring is in the air, the flowers are in bloom, and a beautiful collection is blossoming from Beautifully Disney!   Curiouser & Curiouser, the latest collection from Beautifully Disney hits shelves at Disneyland and Walt Disney World Resorts on May 3rd.  Inspired by the characters, art, and whimsy of Wonderland, this collection is a must have for all the Disney addicted makeup lovers!

Included in this release:

  • A 6 pan eyeshadow palette.  These are shades fit for an afternoon tea;  including a rosey assortment of whimsical neutrals.  You’ll find a soft pale, a mushroomy brown, a perfectly peach hue, a golden bronze tone, a flush rose shade, and a deep rose the likes of which the Queen of Hearts would envy.
  • A set of 4 mini lipsticks.  Colors are inspired by the film and include a deep wine red, a soft rose petal shade, a playful coral, and a nudey pink.
  • 2 new lipglosses (packaging features Alice and the Cheshire Cat).  In the shades, Miss Priss and Literally Nonsense, these both shades are wearable and are guaranteed to keep your lips pretty and sparkling for a very important date!
  • A set of 4 mini nail polishes.   The colors (a shimmery mossy green, a color that is truly Alice blue, an opalescent white, and a shimmery pink that would make the flowers sing).
  • A set of Macaroon shaped makeup blenders that are simply cute enough to eat…but you really shouldn’t.

*A bit of very good advice that I’d be a fool not to mention:  shoppers who spend $50 or more on Beautifully Disney products will be able to purchase a mini lipgloss palette for just $19.95!

This collection is sure to put a Cheshire Cat sized smile on your face.  Come May 3rd we will all have a reason to celebrate!  Get to the nearest Disney resort and get your hands on this wonderful collection!  If you’re luck enough to be at Disneyland on May 3rd, you’ll find a perfect collection of “A—who’s  A-who” when creator of the art on this Alice inspired collection, Jeff Garnito at the WonderGround Gallery in the Downtown Disney District from 11-1 pm.  Sadly I won’t make this tea party.  I guess I’ll have to wait to find my own rabbit hole so that I’m not too late for this very important date!  I’m going to treat myself to this quirky collection for my unbirthday!

How about you?  What do you think will be your cup of tea from this collection?  Share your wonderful wish list in the comment section below!

Thanks for reading and commenting!

hands

There’s nothing more fun that a good old fashioned Disney date night!  Getting all gussied up, walking hand in hand, butterflies in your stomach waiting for THE kiss!  Sigh!  I love that feeling!  I can’t imagine a better place than Disney World to go on a date!  First date or millionth date, Disney has created the mood, why not soak it up on a fabulous date night?  Let’s take a look at a couple of date options for the Magic Kingdom!

The Romantics:

Dinner

Tony’s Town Square is my recommendation for the hopeless romantic!  If spaghetti noodle kisses are your thing, then you’re in the right place!  Tony’s Town Square offers a variety of Italian dishes and provides a venue that is perfect for the lovely bella notte.  On you’re way out, stop and see Lady and the Tramp’s love forever set in cement just outside the restaurant.

What to do

Romance is what it is all about, take advantage of close seating in some of the most lovely rides available.  Cozy up as you take flight with Dumbo, kiss the girl as you travel under the sea on Voyage of the Little Mermaid, and for heaven’s sake, don’t miss out on a ride on Prince Charming Regal Carousel!  Whatever you do, make it about being together!  Enjoy every ride

The Perfect Ending

You can’t be a romantic and skip out on the fireworks!  Find a spot to sit or stand and hold hands as the fireworks of Wishes! Nighttime Spectacular cascades shimmers of magic over the Magic Kingdom.  Grab a dessert to share and you’ve pretty much got the perfect ending to a romantic night in the Magic Kingdom.  Of course, if you’re on the insider loop like me, then you’ll probably let the crowds rushing toward the exit die down as you enjoy Cinderella Castle and the Goodnight Kiss.  Then you’ll probably do a bit of Shopping in the Emporium and probably grab a coffee from the Main Street Bakery.  But that’s just me…

The Thrill Seekers

Dinner

Thrill seekers probably aren’t as worried about food as they are about having fun!  I won’t go so far as to say that the Magic Kingdom is the best spot for the thrill seeker, but I do think there are some exciting things to do!  The thrill seekers probably will grab dinner on the fly.  ADRs?  No thanks!  The true thrill seekers aren’t planners, they’ll see what the night brings.  Maybe a quick Turkey leg while rushing off to Big Thunder Mountain.  Maybe a last minute, impossible to grab table service with NO reservations, maybe just a series of desserts.  When you seek a thrill, the journey is the adventure!

What to do

Of course you’ll want to take on the thrills of the Magic Kingdom.  Those thrills can be found in the mountains:  Big Thunder Mountain, Space Mountain, and Splash Mountain.  Soon, you’ll be able to defy the rails of the Seven Dwarfs Mine Train!  Maybe you’ll take on the pirate filled seas with Captain Jack Sparrow and crew over at Pirates of the Caribbean!  Maybe you’ll seek some spooky thrills over at the Haunted Mansion. Whatever the case, you adrenaline junkies will find your kicks in the Magic Kingdom!

The Perfect Ending

Thrill seekers want a challenge.  To you I offer these suggestions.

a.) Skip the crowds of the parades and fireworks and ride until you drop.  See if you can do all of the coasters in the kingdom before the night is over.

b.)  A  little healthy competition isn’t all that bad!  Why not challenge your date to a couple of thrills…See who wins big!  See who can ride space mountain the most times in a row.  Have a food challenge, see who can down the most __________ (I’d totally take the Mickey Bar challenge…).

The Kids at Heart

 Dinner

The kid at heart will want to take advantage of Character Dinning and perfectly posed pictures.  For the magic Kingdom, you’ll have a couple of choices.  You can go fully regal and dine in Cinderella Castle at Cinderella’s Royal Table, you can eat in the company of Belle and Beast at Be Our Guest, or you can let your true kid side show by enjoying a fun meal with Pooh and the Hundred Acre crew at the Crystal Palace.  Either way, bring a camera and your true childhood spirit!  The two of you are guaranteed to have a wonderful time.

What to do

What’s the best place for a kid to hang out?  I don’t think you can get any closer to childhood than the Magic Kingdom.  Complete with 7 lands to explore, you’ll probably find your inner kid tucked into every single detail.  Enjoy a romp through Fantasyland, eat cotton candy as you wait to meet a character, have two desserts.  Stay up till the park closes and catch every single moment of the fun!  Buy a silly hat, commemorate the night with a few goofy pictures. The kingdom is yours!

The Perfect Ending

A true kid knows the sense of wonder and amazement that comes with a parade.  There’s something about watching the twinkling lights of the Main Street Electrical Parade (especially when you have a genuine light up toy).  You can’t miss out on the whimsy of the parade and you can’t miss out on the wonder of Wishes!  You simply have to ride the last right, just one last time.  Make a made dash for Big Thunder Mountain.  Squeeze in an extra ice cream.  Be carefree and enjoy your time with the your sweetie!

I hope you’ve enjoyed these suggestions for the perfect date night in the Magic Kingdom.   Why don’t we do a little date night dishing!  What’s your favorite date night at Disney memory?  Share with us in the comment section below!    I’ll be back in a few weeks with my suggestions for the perfect date night in EPCOT!

As always, thanks for reading and commenting!

See ya real soon!

It’s time to get your manamana-manicure on!  That’s right!  OPI Nail Lacquer and Disney are teaming up to provide a new collection of Muppet inspired polishes (you might remember the 2011 Muppet Holiday collection).  This collection features 8  new shades (featuring sparkling, shimmering, and glittery textures and even some gel based polishes!).  You guys know me and my beauty addictions.  Let’s talk about these awesome colors!

Here’s the official press release:

With an all-star cast including Kermit the Frog, Constantine, Ricky Gervais, Miss Piggy, Ty Burrell, Tina Fey and the whole Muppet gang, this family comedy is directed by James Bobin and written by Bobin and Nicholas Stoller. Muppets Most Wanted opens in theaters on March 21, 2014.

“The Muppets are a fun-loving, colorful cast of characters. These eight new nail lacquers were inspired by their latest adventures in Disney’s Muppets Most Wanted, which include a glamorous international stage tour – and lots of surprises,” explains Suzi Weiss-Fischmann, OPI Co-Founder & Executive VP. “Fashionable Miss Piggy is represented through soft pink, peach and pearlescent hues, as well as a frosty sapphire blue – Miss Piggy’s Big Number – to match her fabulous tour gown. The remaining four shades highlight the film’s unexpected elements and include a color-shifting mauve and three sparkle-packed lacquers – including my personal favorite Gaining Mole-mentum, a gold and rose chunky shredded glitter.”

Here are the color descriptions:

Muppets World Tour:  White quartz in clear coat with colorful sparkles.

Miss Piggy’s Big Number: An electric sapphire blue.

Kermit me to Speak:  An awesome mauvey, browny, greeny, duochrome!

Gaining Mole-Mentum:  Shredded gold and chunky pink glitter in a clear coat.

Chillin’ Like a Villain: A sheer nude with orange undertones.  Color builds to opaque with a few coats

I Love Applause:  A sheer soft pink.  Color builds to opaque with a few coats

Let’s do Anything we Want:  A Rose gold glitter with white confetti in a clear coat.

Int’l Crime Caper:  An opalescent pearl polish that isn’t quite sheer.

Each of these polishes features OPI’s Prowide Brush for awesome application!  Polishes can be purchased individually as well as in a set of mini polishes and 4 of these colors will be available in the gel format.  I can’t wait to get my hands on thesm!  I can’t wait to see what possibilities I can come up with as I pair up the clear coats over the more opaque shades!  As for me and this collection…I’m gonna scoop themuppet!  Waka waka!  (Sorry, couldn’t resist a pun).  Polishes are available to own March 2014!

Thanks for reading and commenting!

See ya real soon,

You guys know how I feel about a theme!  I love to put things together and watch every detail fall into place!  Today I’m combining my love for all things themed with my adoration of the best day of the year (well to me at least)…VALENTINE’S DAY!  Today, I’m paring up one of my favorite Disney love stories, the Princess and the Frog with my favorite holiday!

There’s an old saying that you have to kiss a lot of frogs before you find your prince.  I say with 100%  assurance that this is totally true!  This post is the prince equivalent to that perfect pucker.  Combining some true New Orleans favorites for your family with some crafty creations from Spoonful.com, this movie night is a crowd pleaser and a perfect way to celebrate a day the day of LOVE with your family!

What’s Cookin’?

Charolotte’s Favorite Shrimp and Grits

Ray’s Red Beans and Rice

Louis’ Brass Bread

Tiana’s Man Catching Beignets

Prince Naveen’s New Orlean Praline Ice Cream

Do the Decor

  • Valentine’s Day is a time to celebrate!  Decorate for this night of family fun by throwing some Mardi Gras beads (traditional colors or pay homage to Valentine’s Day) into the bottom of a candle votive.

Make a Mood

  • Set the mood with some simple clear Christmas lights
  • Play some music from New Orleans
  • Candles are must
  • Chocolates are welcomed
  • Play some games before the movie!  A Princess and the Frog memory game  it is as easy as click, print, cut and play!  What a perfect way to wet your movie watching appetite as you digest your dinner!

And POOF!  Just like magic,  you’ve got yourself a wonderful Valentine’s Disney themed family movie night!  I hope that you’ll check out my Pinterest board for more ideas to make this a magical night for your family.  You’ll find links to recipes,  crafts, and ideas there!

I love a good deal!  I mean there is just something about doubling up a coupon, catching a discount code, getting a BOGO, or getting a little more for the price! I can’t help it!  I am all about value!  That doesn’t go away when I’m at Disney World!  In fact, I’m always on the hunt for the most magical bang for my buck!

Today I’m keeping this in mind and sharing with you some of my favorite Disney World Dining Tips including restaurant picks and money saving tips.  Let’s get going!

1.  Find a Bargain in the Buffet

Utilizing one of the many buffet offerings at Disney World is a great way to save money.  Buffet restaurants can be found throughout the parks and resorts and offer the bargain hunter a wide variety of eats!  Since buffet restaurants allow you to eat to your heart’s content, selecting a buffet restaurant as a late lunch will allow you to stretch your dollar.  I recommend a quick breakfast in the room or something light in the parks a mid day snack and the late lunch.  If your crowd is particularly hungry, you can always snack later in the night.

Here are a few of my favorite buffet restaurants

Hollywood and Vine

Location: Disney’s Hollywood Studios

Type of Dining:  Table Service with characters at lunch/no characters at dinner

Price: Moderate $$-$$$

Trails End

Location:  Fort Wilderness Resort

Type of Dining:  Table Service with characters

Biergarten

Location:  EPCOT World Showcase Germany Pavilion

Type of Dining:  Table Service with entertainment

Liberty Tree Tavern

Type of Dining:  Table Service without characters

Price:  Moderate $$-$$$

Chef Mickeys

Location:  Disney’s Contemporary Resort

2.  Scale  Back on Quick-Service Meals

Another way to save is to share a meal!  I find splitting a meal especially helpful when I plan on doing a lot of snacking.  I look for quick-service restaurants that serve large portions or let you customize your meal.  For example, restaurants with a topping bar for your burgers and sandwiches.  I find that splitting a burger and then fancying it up a bit hits the spot.  Another idea for scaling back is to eat off of the kids meal at quick-service restaurants.  The portions are enough to fill you and the price difference is nice on the wallet.

Here are a few of my favorite quick service restaurants that make for easy sharing!

Cosmic Ray’s Starlight Cafe

Location:  Magic Kingdom Tomorrowland

Type of Dining:  Quick-service

Price:  Value $

Scale back pick:  because of the build your burger topping bar and wide variety of hearty meal options and kids meal options

Everything Pop!

Location:  Disney’s Pop Century Resort

Type of Dining:  Quick-service

Price:  Value $

Scale back pick:  Wide variety of choices in one convenient food court!  Portions are great for sharing!

Sunshine Seasons

Location:  EPCOT

Type of Dining:  Quick-service

Price:  Value $

Scale back pick:  Wide variety of choices in one convenient food court!  You get to eat loads here, plus if you go for dessert, you can select a HUGE dessert item from the bakery case!   Splitting is the way to go here!

3.  FREEfill

I am going for a copyright on this word.  Okay, not really, but it is a Disney term of endearment for me and my crew!  A FREEfill is defined as a quick-service restaurant that allows for free refills.  At Disney World, this is a rarity.  I don’t know about you, but I typically want more than the typical cup of drink when I’m at Disney World, especially when it is hot out.  So today, I’m sharing with you my top quick-service spots with self serve drink stations.  Save on your sips and bargain up!

My picks:

Resort Food Courts (to an extent now thanks to Rapid Fill)

Magic Kingdom:  Be our Guest (lunch)

EPCOT:  Sunshine Seasons, Electric Umbrella

Animal Kingdom:  Restaurantosaurus

I hope that all you bargain finders will enjoy these tips and suggestions.  What is your best bargain saving tip or suggestion for eating in the parks?  Do you have any especially cheap eating tips?  Share them in the comment section below!

As always, thanks for reading and commenting!

If you can remember back to the warm days of early summer (June 27th I think), you might remember a little Disney themed spa night post that I wrote, inspired by The Little Mermaid.  Today I’m back with a new nail look and it is perfect for the holiday season!   I’m taking inspiration from one of the most beautiful sights I’ve ever had the luxury of seeing, Cinderella Castle at its sparkly best!  That’s right, today’s nails are inspired by the diamond dipped Cinderella Castle at Christmas time!

Here’s a picture of my inspiration (disclaimer:  this is NOWHERE near as perfect as it is in person!)

DisneyNovember1 981

Put em’ Together and What do you Got?

I wanted to create a wearable translation of this theme.  Cinderella Castle is simply mesmerizing, especially during the holiday season.  I was going for a diamond dipped ombre look.  I wanted to find the right mix of ombre and sparkle and I shopped my stash for a shimmery translucent grey shade (I used part of a Gradiation Nail Kit from Kiss, bottle number one),  a light blue (I used Essie’s “Rock the Boat”), a chunky hex glitter (I used Essie’s “Set in Stone”), a bar style holographic glitter (I used Nicole’s Selena Gomez line “Stars at Night”), and finally a chunky grey/black/silver nail glitter pot (I used Nail Art Glitter’s “Onyx”).

Cinderella’s Christmas Castle: Diamond Dipped Castle

I call this look “Cinderella’s Christmas Castle: Diamond Dipped Edition!”

1. Prepped my nails by clipping, filing, cleaning, and buffing them as well as cleaning up my cuticles and moisturizing my hands.

2. Next, I applied a clear basecoat. I used an OPI basecoat (this will make your creation last beyond midnight).

3. I applied 1 Layer of  shimmery translucent grey shade (I used part of a Gradiation Nail Kit from Kiss, bottle number one) to my entire nail.

4. I applied 1 sheer layer of a light blue (I used Essie’s “Rock the Boat”) to the top half of my nail.  This blue is a very buildable color and it was sheer enough to transition smoothly with the base color.

5. Next I painted the top half of each nail with a chunky hex glitter (I used Essie’s “Set in Stone”).  After it dried, I applied a bar style holographic glitter (I used Nicole’s Selena Gomez line “Stars at Night”).

6.  While my fingers were still wet from the glitter paint, I dipped the tip of each nail into a chunky grey/black/silver nail glitter pot (I used Nail Art Glitter’s “Onyx”).

6. Finally, I apply a quick drying topcoat. I used Orly’s “Sec N Dry.”

Here’s the finished product… (note the obligatory hidden Mickey)

hand

This fun look didn’t take long to create!  The best part was that I didn’t have to buy anything new!   All I had to do was shop my stash and I put ’em together and what have you got?  A Bibbidi-bobbidi-beeeautiful tribute to the beautiful Cinderella Castle at Christmas!  I hope that you enjoyed this simple nail tutorial!  I also hope that you’ll get inspired to dream up some of your own Disney designs; when it comes to Disney inpsired nails, a dream is a wish your heart makes!  I can’t wait to wear these nails around town this holiday season!  It’s like I have a little bit of the park with me at all times!  In the comment section below, let me know if you tried out this look or something similar to it!

As always, thanks for reading and commenting!

I love it when my students come back from a trip to Disney World.  Their memories are so fresh, so vibrant, so real!  I feel like a (teeny) bit of me has made the trek to the most magical place on Earth!

Five and Six year-old kids tend to speak about Disney trips in three major themed chunks; 1. the hotel (aka pool), 2. the most daring ride they braved, and 3. the characters they met.  Everything is magnified, as hand gestures bring life to memories.  I’m never surprised to hear that even the “bravest of the brave ones” were scared of rides that I would consider to be pretty tame.

I’m talking about  a 5 year old, who barely squeaked by the height requirement, yet hunkered down under that safety restraint, and stared the thrills and hills of rides like Expedition Everest, Space Mountain, and Tower of Terror, but was completely terrorized by the antics of 626 on Stitch’s Great Escape.  Bizarre as it may seem, I get it.

Today I am sharing 5 rides that are surprisingly terrifying for little ones.  Of course, this is by no means a “one size fits all” list.  Some kids know no terror.  Some kids would laugh in the face of these rides.  But, today I am sharing rides I’ve heard mentioned again and again by little ones!

Let’s look at it their way, how kids see it:  the scary side to otherwise tame rides!

1.  Stitches Great Escape

Do you remember ExtraTERRORestrial Alien Encounter? I do!  That think freak me right out!  I remember shivering as the “alien” crept around the seats.  The feel of the breathing on my neck sent me into overload.  It’s funny that Stitches Great Escape is housed in the same place and is now sending waves of fear over little ones worldwide!  Knowing how scary it use to be has made me see the lighthearted side to the ever lovable 626.  But for kids, this ride is as terrifying as it gets.  As Stitch makes his escape into the audience, pouncing on seats, burping out chili dog breath, and spitting on innocent spectators!  When you say it like that, it makes sense…right?

What makes it scary:  This ride contains a period of little to no lighting.  Stitch gets up close and personal, creating a tense feeling for little ones who probably won’t understand that the seats are automated, but instead believe that 626 is running around the theater.  Also, there is a sequence of laser blasts with loud noises that might be considered frightening.

2. The Great Movie Ride

I love the movies!  Don’t you.  The romance, the dancing, the action, the aliens.  Okay, so it might seem like I’m writing a themed post on aliens here, but I’m not.  I have always loved the Great Movie Ride in Hollywood Studios.  I love seeing the mock sets and hearing the spiels and  I love the gangster/cowboy story line!   But if you think about it, that ride may seems like glitz and glam of Hollywood, but their are a few hidden terrors!    As you journey through the sets of the horror films , shoot outs,  aliens, and  snakes after snakes after snakes  in the Indiana Jones scene, and  finally capping it off with a visit from the Wicked Witch herself, it is no wonder that kids get scared!  What the heck, I’m an adult and I still avoid sitting in the middle of the vehicles for fear of that awful alien.  I hate that thing!

What makes it scary:  This ride contains several scary scenes including chills and thrills as well as the unsuspected  interaction with the gangster/cowboy.  There are some loud noises, special effects, and scary sights.

3. Dinosaur

I know the funniest story about this ride.  Back when Animal Kingdom first opened, some friends of mine went on a high school chorus trip to Disney World.  Apparently one of the guys screamed like mad when the Carnotaurus makes his big reveal.  Of course, this is when the photo is snapped.  Poor guy, his moment of shear terror forever ink jetted onto a keepsake photo.  That said, this ride is full of thrills and chills.  As you travel back in time on your Time Rover, you come face to face with a slew of prehistoric creatures.  The entire process is a bumpy ride in a race to grab a dinosaur for the rule breaking  Dr. Seeker.  The only problem is that guests are traveling dangerously close to the meteor that wiped out dinosaurs.  The bumpy ride, dinosaurs, and lack of lights sends you on a heartstopping adventure through the Cretaceous period.  It is a trip you won’t soon forget!

What makes it scary:  This ride is mostly dark with flashes of bright lights here and there.  There are loud noises, shocking twists and turns in your Time Rover, and of course, we can’t forget the Dinosaurs.

4. The Maelstrom

What’s the best ride in all of World Showcase?  The Norway ride (as it is affectionately known).  The Maelstrom is pretty much the only attraction you’ll find a long wait for in EPCOT’s World Showcase (in fact the only ride with Fastpasses+ in the entire World Showcase).  This ride combines facts about Norway with Nordish legends like that of the trolls.  Your factual float takes a turn for the worst (or the “funnest”) as you come head to head with a troll who swears to send you over the falls.  Your ride ends with a short fall/drop  (like a baby, baby, baby, baby Splash Mountain fall).  Little ones might like the spill better that the trolls who cause it.  I know my nephew was a little thrown off by the 3 headed troll.

What makes it scary:  This ride contains some darkness and frightful sights (the trolls are the biggest).  Also, the drop might be frightening to some small children.

5.It’s Tough to be a Bug!

I’ve been writing for Chip and Company for just about a year.  If you’ve read any of my posts, you probably already know that I LOVE to people watch!  I love it!  And as an expert people watcher, I can say with certainty that I have seen my fair share of early “exit-ers” while sitting just outside of the Tree of Life’s It’s Tough to be a Bug.  This 3D attraction takes you beyond the picture and surrounds your senses with the smells, sights, and essence of being a bug!  The show is full of fun and laughs until the grasshopper army seeks out revenge on bug hating humans.  Spiders drop from the ceiling, wasps “sting” you, and you are bug sprayed.  This is unnerving even for adults (at least for those of us who don’t “do” bugs)!

What makes it scary:  This show contains periods of darkness, loud sounds, bugs,  and scary interactive elements (like sensors in your seat that make you feel like a wasp is stinging you, spiders that drop from the ceiling, as well as water and fog/smoke effects).

I know it is hard to see the scary sides to these rides, but considering how a kid might see it might save you from tears and nightmares!  Check out the rider swap option if you have a child who might find these rides frightening.

Do you have any “tame” rides that frightened your little ones?  Share them in the comment section below!

Poppincember is ON!  That’s right, we are merely days away from some of the best events of 2013!  Coming December 10th, you can own a copy of the 50th Anniversary Edition of Mary Poppins and only 10 short days later you can catch Saving Mr. Banks in theaters!  I am loving this month!  What better way to ring in Poppincember than to review my copy of this special edition Blu-ray/DVD pack!

We all know and love the movie, so I’m not going to harp too much on the story, other than to say the digital restoration of this edition would make even P.L. Travers grin with delight!  Special features on this combo pack include “classic special features” :

  • Deleted song “Chimpanzoo”
  • A Magical Musical Reunion with Julie Andrews, Dick Van Dyke, and Richard Sherman
  • Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious:  The Making of Mary Poppins

As well as some all new to this edition special features:

  • All New Becoming Mr. Sherman- Enjoy a Conversation Between Legendary Composer Richard Sherman and Actor Jason Shwartzman (Who plays Richard Sherman in Saving Mr. Banks).
  • All New Mary-Oke Sing-Along

I really enjoyed all of the special features.  Although, watching these special features has added to my “to do” list (to do:  see Mary Poppins live on stage).  I love seeing the creation of this beloved story that continues to live on after the movie.  Mary Poppins is seeing new life through the updated editions, creation of a live stage show, the upcoming Saving Mr. Banks.  I love the continuity that is evident in the work of everyone involved in this legacy!

I especially enjoyed the special feature, Becoming Mr. Sherman!  Jason Shwartzman and Richard Sherman (one half of the famous music duo, the Sherman Brothers) have an awesome stroll down memory lane.  I really appreciate the care that went into the creation of this role; Shwartzman’s respect for the Sherman brothers work was clearly evident.  I really enjoyed seeing clips of the movie as I gained an even bigger appreciation for this film (sorry I’m totally fangirling over Saving Mr. Banks!).  I’m already a raving fan!  I can’t wait for it to come out!!!!!!!

Another special feature I really enjoyed was the Mary-Oke sing along!  What better way to celebrate the days of Poppincember than to sing in style to some of my favorite tunes from the movie.  The lyrics are presented in a beautiful display of typography, in fact when I first played them, I couldn’t even focus on singing because I was marveling at the beautiful presentation.  It really is stunning….it’s supercalifragilisticexpialidocious!

This Blu-Ray/DVD special edition would make a lovely addition to your Christmas list…it’s practically perfect in every way!  I hope you’ll join me in celebrating Poppincember and put this on your Christmas list!  Get your copy December 10th!  In honor of this celebration, let’s share our favorite Sherman brother’s tune in the comment section below.  I love them all, but today, I really love “A British Bank.”  Now it’s your turn!

As always, thanks for reading and commenting!

There are sure signs that November is upon us…  No, I’m not talking  about the copious amounts of facial hair, the likes of which the boys of Duck Dynasty have never seen (thank you “no shave November” and “Movember”).  Nope, today I’m talking about the latest Facebook tag that everybody and their mama seems to be doing…it’s time to be thankful!

I’ll admit that I’ve not jumped on the bandwagon, not because I’m not thankful; my reasons for sitting this one out are pure lack of memory.  But today, while I am in this moment, typing away this post, I’m taking a moment to be thankful for all the Disney things I love.  Today, I’m doing a salute to some of the Disney Park Personalities that make me smile the most!  I’m taking some inspiration from those old ” real men of genius” commercials from Bud Light.  Today I’m saluting you my  Real Disney World Heroes.  I’m thankful for you and all your Disney glory.  You make the World go round and you put a smile on my face!

By the way, I’m using Mr. because that’s what the original beer commercial original went. Just so you know, I’m saluting EVERYONE — Mr. OR Ms./Mrs. (I’m being as PC here as possible):

Swiss Army Knife Inspired Park Bag Carrier

Today I salute you, Mr. Swiss Army Knife Inspired Park Bag Carrier.  You make packing for the parks look like a 5 day hike in the wilderness.  If is has a zipper, its stuffed with something for a day in the parks.  You can cram a 12 inch sub into that crazy contraption of luggage.  You trudge through the parks in all your bag hauling glory and still manage to make it to park closing.  You spend half your day in the bag security line.   So zip away Mr. Crazy Park Bag Packer, if you can tote it…it’s probably in your bag.  Today I salute you, real Disney World Hero!

Better be There For Rope Drop Early Riser

Today I salute you, Mr. Better be There For Rope Drop Early Riser.  They say the early bird gets the worm.  If that’s the case, you got a worm farm.  You’re up before the sun and you mean business!  Front row seat for the rope drop show?  Yes siree!  For 2.5 seconds, Main Street USA is all yours.  By the time the average joe park goer is waking up, you’ve taken on all three mountains: Space, Splash, and Big Thunder…no big deal.  So coast on through those non-existent lines you early riser.  Today I salute you, real Disney World Hero!

Two Hours Ahead of Time Parade Seat Saver

Today I salute you, Mr. Two Hours Ahead of Time Parade Seat Saver.  You know the perfect parade viewing spot and you’re staking your claim on it–two hours early.  You know how to say “this seat is taken” without even saying a word.  Curbside dinner?  Don’t mind if you do.  Your bladder is made of iron and you know how to use it.  Once the time comes, you are getting that spot…no matter what.  Your face says “Don’t try and invade my space!”  So pull up some sidewalk and get ready for the Main Street Electrical, ain’t NOBODY gonna rain on your parade!  Today I salute you, Real Disney World Hero!

Olympic Qualifying Theme Park Walker

Today I salute you, Mr. Olympic Qualifying Theme Park Walker.  You majored in speed walking.  Reaching a top speed of 30 mph, you are a man on a mission.  Slow down?  That’s not in your vocabulary.  You cover the entire World Showcase in 1 hour, with time to spare.  Your family lags behind, but what they lack in sheer locomotion, you make up for in mall walker determination.  They’re probably going to rename walking shoes after you.  So don’t slow down for us, walk on my friend.  There’s an attraction calling your name across the World Showcase Lagoon and you don’t make anyone wait.  Today I salute you, Real Disney World Hero!

*ps:  This is TOTALLY inspired by my mother.  Sorry mom!

Gonna Fill up my Empty Water Bottle at Club Cool

Today I salute you, Mr. Gonna Fill up my Empty Water Bottle at Club Cool.  Free fountain drinks…don’t mind if you do.  Forget those bathroom sized cup, when you want a drink, you want a drink.  You approach those Coca Cola varieties from around the world like new territory to claim!  Veni, vidi, vici–you came, you saw, you conquered, and you hogged up the soda.  You gotta thirst and you know how to quench it.  So fill er up, Club Cool ain’t charging!  Today I salute you, Real Disney World Hero!

There’s a Photo Opportunity…I’m Gonna Take it

Today I salute you, Mr. There’s a Photo Opportunity…I’m Gonna Take it! You’ve got gigs and you know how to use them.  Shoot first…ask questions later, that’s your motto.  You see a shot and you take it!  There isn’t an angle that you won’t try out.  Who cares if there’s someone right behind you?  All abrupt stops are for the sake of art.  The camera gear you’re sporting should have been enough warning.  So snap away, there are 10 million interesting shots of Spaceship Earth.  Today I salute you, Read Disney World Hero!

*ps: Maybe this is me?  Blame it on the blogging.

So who do you salute?  Is there a special park personality that you look for trip after trip.  I’m thankful for these personalities!  After all, the world would be a BORING place if we all did the same things!  Quirky is good (and it rhymes with turkey)…which brings me back to the point of thankfulness!  Today I salute all of my Disney World Heroes and I salute YOU!

Bring something to the table (comment section) and share with us your favorite park personality!

As always, thanks for reading and commenting!

Happy Thanksgiving and see ya real soon!

Ashley

charged

All it takes is a dip below the 50% marker on my battery life indicator and I am hunting for a spot to charge my phone.  In an age of EVERYTHING being at the tip of your fingers, it is important to have a fully charged phone while you’re in the parks–from keeping track with your family to utilizing the best Disney World apps out there, it can be hard when you are living it up in the parks.  Between posting pictures on Instagram and updating my status as I go, I know how quickly your phone can go when you are using it frequently.  Today I’m sharing some tips with you that will help you to get a life and keep your cell charged in the parks!

Check your settings!

A few quick and easy setting changes on your phone can help keep your battery from draining dry.  Here 5 quick and easy quick ideas (keep in mind I have an iPhone 5 so I’m going off of my settings, but I’m sure other phones are comparable).  Check your phone manual (or Google) for more battery saving suggestions):

  • turn off wi-fi
  • turn off location services
  • turn off 3G/4G
  • turn on auto brightness
  • turn off Bluetooth services

Find a Spot to plug in!

Okay so, I would like to publicly say that I was the first person to think up a charging spot in the parks.  I’d like to take all the credit for the Tangled Restroom Area phone charging stations.  That was me…(okay, so probably not me and instead some really well paid imagineer).  But for the record, I did say (about 4 years ago–thank you very much) that there should be a quick charge spot in the Future World Area of EPCOT where you could put your phone on a tray or something and charge it to 100% in like 60 seconds.  IF that becomes a reality, I want a portion of the profits or at the very least a room in Cinderella Castle.

If you are still with me…anyone…Bueller…

And, if you are all like “what?  Tangled phone charging stations who?”  Then my friends, let me let you in on a not so secret, secret.  There is a free to use phone charging area at the Tangled Restroom area in the Magic Kingdom.  You’ll find fake log posts fully equipped with USB and AC electric plug outlets.  Make sure to do is bring your phone’s wall charging cord with you and boom, you’ve got a festive spot to sit and charge for a while.  Take a break or plug up for a 5 minute refresher charge while your friends and family hit the restrooms.  Here’s a shot of the area and the faux logs

I’ll admit to you and ONLY you a teensy confession.  In the past, I have charged my phone in non-designated areas.  I’m ashamed… But in my defense, I needed my phone!

I’ve charged in Bruce’s Shark World…I’ve charged (outside of) the Country Bear Jamboree

iphonepicturesmarch2013-july2013 469

Basically, I’ve charged lots of places, HOWEVER…

Now that there’s a designated area, I use that.  Remember these things should you need a quick charge….

1. Safety first:  This means I don’t put myself or others in harm (i.e., don’t charge in the middle of a busy area, don’t unplug anything, don’t move anything to get to the charger)

2. Be considerate:  I find a place with a plug that is out of the way of other and allows me to sit with my phone.  This might mean finding a table next to an outlet or finding a spot near a bench with a plug.

3. Open plugs only: If there’s a safety cover on the plug I pass it by.  There are plenty of “regular” plugs just waiting to be used.

4. When in doubt, ask a cast member: I asked in Innoventions and the cast member directed me to a plug right next to a bench!  Perfect!

When in doubt, purchasing an external battery might be a good idea.  They make external batteries and charging packs in loads of varieties.  There are battery packs that you charge independently and the plug your phone up to via USB, charger packs opperated by AA batteries, and even solar power packs.  If you forget to buy one, leave yours at home, or realize that the stop and go of charging your phone is too much, you can pick up a AA battery powered pack (that includes the starter batteries) for under $20 throughout the parks.  The only downside to these (speaking from experience) is the AA batteries have to be replaced often which really starts to add up.

So, what did you think?  I hope these tips will keep your cell charged in the parks.  That way you’ll be able to check in on your favorite Facebook page–Chip and Co. , hashtag your pics into an oblivion on Instagram, tweet your thoughts on the crowds, stake your claim on the parks on Foursquare, and catch up on all those work emails…on second thoughts….

If you are anything like me, you’ve been to Disney World too many times to count! I’ve been in the heat of the summer, I’ve fought the spring break crowds, I’ve seen Goofy Santa make his way down Main Street USA.  Over the course of my trips, I’ve been very purposeful about where I stay.  I like to collect blogger data (aka pictures, story ideas, and any insider scoop I can).  I’ve stayed on and off property and today, I’m here to share my observations.  I’m breaking down my thoughts on the eternal question….do I stay on property?  Let’s compare a few points on both on property and off property resorts.  Today I’m giving you my tips to make your trip P.A.R.K.  perfection! On property?  Off property? Let’s figure this thing out!

Proximity

When it comes to the theme parks, proximity is HUGE!  The ability to hop on a bus, boat, or monorail (or your own car for that matter) and be “home” in the blink of an eye is huge!  So, let’s makes some comparisons…

On Property

There are a wide variety of resorts to choose from.  You have the power to select a resort that is as close as on the monorail loop to as far away as the Downtown Disney area.  Of course, you’ll have to pay for that convenience, but in this point we are comparing proximity.  You can’t get any closer than the monorail loop.  That’s a fact.

Off Property

While there are a few hotels that are technically on (or near enough to be on) Disney property, that aren’t official Disney Resorts.  Of course, there are the variety of other hotel options and rentals that aren’t anywhere near property.  I’ve stayed in non-official resorts like Disney Good Neighbor Resort hotels and I’ve stayed in a rental house that required a trip through 2 toll roads--that was not awesome!  Think of all the time you are spending driving back and forth and all the money you’re spending on parking, gas, tipping, renting a car, or whatever…you can forget a midday break!

THE WINNER…

On Property takes the win here!  All on property hotels are within minutes of the theme parks.  The ability to hop on Disney transportation and be back at your home resort is the winning factor for me.  Even when compared to “good neighbor” hotels, I’d still pick the Disney resorts for the ease of return to your hotel.  Either way, you just can’t beat the hop, skip, and a jump of an on property resort!

Amenities & Services

Amenities are important.  Whether I’m selecting a hotel for a girls weekend get-away at the beach, a family trip to Hawaii, or a return trip to Disney World, I think about  amenities.  I’m all about “free” and I’m always looking for ways to squeeze every last morsel of “included” out of my stay.  So, let’s make some comparisons…

On Property

Disney knows how to do amenities!  From transportation (on property to pickup and drop off at the airport) to complimentary wi-fi,  Disney Resorts have got you covered.  If you would rather drive your own vehicle to the parks, have no fear!  Parking at the resort and at the theme parks is complimentary with your Key to the World Card or Parking Permit.  Walt Disney World Resort guests are also offered free merchandise drop off, a service that literally takes the weight of the World off your shoulders–don’t bog yourself down with your theme park purchases, instead have them sent straight to your hotel room (LOVE it!).

             Off Property

There are about a billion non-Disney resort options.  These hotels have a variety of amenities at affordable rates.  I will say that many of the amenities that I’d take advantage of the most, are the ones that I haven’t been able to enjoy.  For example, two years ago I stayed off property for the princess half marathon.  I was excited to stay relatively close to Disney property for a fairly reduced price…only to realize that the “complimentary” shuttle to the parks was actually a forced tip ride with a driver that scared the daylights out of my entire family.  Yikes!

THE WINNER…

With the exception of free continental breakfast, Disney Resorts make the typical hotel amenity quiver in their boots.  Again, Disney gets my vote!  I know that the price of a competitor hotel may outweigh the amenities, but for me, I’d rather pay extra to enjoy some Disney extras!

Rates

For me, money is important.  While I would love to be able to spend to my heart’s content, that just isn’t an option.  I want the most bang for my buck.  Does that come in the form of an on or off property resort.  Let’s make some comparisons…

On Property

Disney keeps it classy.  Value, moderate, or deluxe hotel, Disney goes above and beyond!  While the cost does add up, staying on property gives you a whole new appreciation!  The good news is that there are often deals and incentives for planning a stay on Disney property (room discounts and of course, FREE dining).  When those specials role around, you can’t talk me out of booking!

Off Property

In an effort to keep up with Disney, many area hotels and rentals will offer competitive rates!  You might just be able to save a pretty penny if you do a little bit of research.  Of course, choosing an off property hotel may mean a little inconvenience, but if that doesn’t bother you, then this may be the winning point for you!

THE WINNER…

I’m going to call this one a tie.  While I can say that most off property hotels are cheaper, you can get a good deal on Disney resorts.  All you have to do is keep your eyes peeled (thank you Chipandco.com!) for special offers; these special offers can help you pinch your pennies and have a magical on property stay too!

Keeping it Magical

I’m all about atmosphere!  I want to feel like I am on vacation!  I want to be taken into another world and this is ESPECIALLY true of my Disney trips.  I’m a theme park kind of girl.  Honestly, I typically only spend time at my hotel sleeping, not enjoying the resort.  One day I will layout by the pool, enjoy the arcade, and take a paddle boat ride…but that day is not today.  I am all about using up every last minute of my ticket in the parks! Let’s make some comparisons….

On Property

Disney doesn’t overlook any details.  Each hotel has its own assortment of amusements!  There are pools themed beyond compare, outdoor movies, musical talent, play areas, and a variety of recreation choices.  Disney keeps the magic going beyond the theme park gates!  Set the mood for magic in your “home away from home.”

Off Property

I’ve stayed in few different off property hotels, condos, and rentals and I have never seen anything that compares to the magic that Disney creates.  There are a variety of pool offerings, play areas, and probably game rooms to enhance your stay.

THE WINNER…

I’m saying that on property takes the win again!  There’s an old saying that I’ve retooled for the Disney traveler.  When in Disney…be magical!

I’d call staying on resort the official winner of this little comparison.  I’m sure that you are not at all shocked.  This isn’t to say that an off property isn’t a good fit for you.  You might find a really great resort that is close to the parks, that is affordable, offers a ton of amenities, and has a magical touch to add to your trip…if you do, that’s great!  So what are your thoughts?  Where do you love to stay? On property or off property?  Shout out your winner in the comment section below!
