Around The "Disney" World - Frontierland

Frontierland is somewhat unique when compared to the other Magic Kingdom “lands”. It has 2 major E-ticket attractions and 3 minor attractions, not many when compared to the other lands but – it’s 2 majors are among the best the Magic Kingdom has to offer. Not only are they terrific attractions they make up 2/3 of the Magic Kingdom Mountain Range. You guessed it, I’m talking aboutSplash Mountain pictured above in the Disney Photo and the Big Thunder Mountain Railroad (BTMRR) pictured below:

These 2 attractions alone draw huge crowds to Frontierland because they are both wildly popular among visitors. Both are relatively tame and are perfect for people of all ages so long as they meet the height requirements (40″ for both). On every visit I make an effort to ride BTMRR as many times as possible but make sure you ride it during daylight hours and also at night, it’s a completely different ride. Splash Mountain is a “feel good” ride because of the music and the colorful scenes, it just makes you happy when you ride it. Make sure you enjoy them both.

I hate to say that out of the 3 minor attractions I have only tried the Country Bear Jamboree. The Frontierland Shootin’ Arcade is primarily for the kids and as for Tom Sawyer Island, I’ve just never made time for it (going to try in October though). The Country Bears are corny but the songs are fun even if you have to put up with the bad jokes in between. Give it a try, it’s relaxing (and air conditioned).

Dining options are somewhat limited but Pecos Bill’s Tall Tale Inn and Cafe is one of the better counter service restaurants in the Magic Kingdom. If you can’t find something there just walk around the corner into Adventureland to the Tortuga Tavern (formerly El Pirata Y el Perico) for a change of pace. Aunt Polly’s Dockside Inn on Tom Sawyer Island is only open seasonally and the menu is limited to ice cream, sundaes, and pie.

Frontierland is a “do not miss” if for no other reason that the 2 E-ticket attractions. I recommend you get there fairly early in the day because the lines can get kinda’ scary as the day progresses. I know you will enjoy what this “land” has to offer. As always, enjoy your visit to Walt Disney World!!
