A private dessert party aimed towards individuals affected by food allergies and intolerances is being held December 15, 2012 at the France Pavilion at Epcot® in the Walt Disney World Resort in Florida. This event is being hosted by the Gluten Free & Dairy Free at WDW Blog and Allergy Free Mouse. Both of these groups provide dining reviews, tips, and planning advice to the special diets community interested in traveling to Walt Disney World. Blog author and host, Sarah Norris, says that this dessert party not only helps bring awareness to the increasing prevalence of food allergies and intolerances, but also allows attendees with special diets to meet one another. “This event is a great way to connect with others in the special diets community and to share tips and tricks about dining safely with a special diet.”

The event will include a dessert buffet in which all items will made to be free of the top 8 common allergens (including gluten/wheat, dairy, egg, soy, nut, corn, fish, and shellfish), something that is very important to Liz and Jeff Reynolds, hosts and authors of Allergy Free Mouse. “It’s important to be as inclusive as possible,” says Liz. Items on the dessert buffet will vary from chocolate raspberry cupcakes to peach and blueberry cobbler. Guests will be emailed a list of all ingredients prior to the event, and the each item on the buffet will be clearly labeled with its corresponding ingredients list.

The Walt Disney World Resort is known for adhering to strict guidelines and safety measures when it comes to food preparation for special dietary needs.  Norris notes, “Disney is most definitely the most accommodating venue and safest for cross-contamination.” However, as with any dining experience, attendees with food allergies and intolerances should take note that cross-contamination is always a potential risk for individuals with special diets. Questions regarding the dessert buffet should be directed to gfdf.wdw@gmail.com.

Tickets for this event are $50.00 per person and include admission to the private event, special viewing area for the nightly showing of IllumiNations: Reflections of Earth, access to an all-you-care-to-eat dessert buffet, and gift bags with products from special diets vendors. Children 3 years of age and under are admitted free to the event with a ticket holding adult. Families are encouraged to attend.
Over 25 companies have sponsored so far, including Enjoy Life Foods, Surf Sweets, Kinnikinnick Foods, Living Without Magazine and Van’s Natural Foods. For a full list of sponsors, see the links below.

  1. I’m glad I don’t have to deal with food allergies but I have heard that Disney is one of the best places to eat if you have them. Our friends went with their young son who was highly allergic to many things and that info was loaded right onto his Disney Dining Plan card so when every they ordered anywhere the chefs new exactly what he couldn’t have.

  2. This would be wonderful to go to since I have a fish and shellfish allergy, lactose intolerance and a ginger allergy. Unfortunately, we will not be there at that time. I do have to say that I have never gotten sick on anything at Disney and that their chefs are the best.
