Tusker House

Tusker

Tusker House, located in Disney’s Animal Kingdom Park, is a “must do” for Disney character dining.  This is the only character dining location at Animal Kingdom, thus making it even more popular!  You’ll hang out with Donald Duck, Daisy, Mickey, and Goofy in all their safari glory!   This is an excellent choice if you are looking for a “boy” character breakfast.  No princesses here, and the rustic feel of Tusker House will make your safari adventurer feel right at home!  Some things to remember when dining at Tusker House:

  • Characters are here for breakfast and lunch only.  The meal here is served buffet style, with typical American fare on the menu.  Mickey waffles, fresh fruits, and cereal are served alongside some more authentic African dishes.  Potato and egg casseroles, Beef Bobotie, and quiches are also on the buffet for breakfast.  You can view their full menu HERE.
  • Have your camera and autograph book ready, as the characters visit tables and are available for photo opportunities and autographs.
  • Breakfast is served from 8-10:30, typically.  Consider trying to get a pre park opening reservation for breakfast.  This is beneficial, because you’ll start your day with a fun breakfast, and then head straight to the Kilimanjaro Safari ride with little to no wait.  This is one of the most popular rides at Animal Kingdom, and if you can get an ADR at Tusker House and then head straight to the ride, you’ll be off to a great start.
  • Dinner is also served at Tusker House, but there are NO characters.  This is also buffet style, with carved meats, salads, and the “Wall of Fire”, where you’ll find rotisserie chickens!

Tusker House is part of the Disney Dining Plan and counts as a table service credit for each member of your party.  Breakfast and lunch are particularly popular, mainly because they are a character experience.  However, if you don’t mind no characters and you want to experience a great dinner at Animal Kingdom, then Tusker House is for you.

Overall, we give Tusker House an “A+”.

  1. After reading your write up and checking out the menu, we’ll have to have breakfast here this year. Thanks for the info!

  2. This place is wonderful. And between Ohana and Tusker I’m no sure which one I liked better. Tusker has a wonderful buffet with everything you can think you would want for breakfast. And of course there was Mickey waffles!!!!!!!!!!!!

  3. We ate lunch here in December and it was fantastic! The characters did not rush us at all. My 2 year old daughter hugged Mickey for at least 5 minutes and he just hugged her back! There were lots of ways for the kids to interact with the characters. This was my favorite part of our 2 week trip.

  4. We went here for lunch, it is now a character buffet! Food was great, kids loved it.
We skipped the picture before entering the restaurant, kids were hungry. We were then not obligated to buy it! The desserts were incredible!!! Another place we are adding to each trip!!!

  5. I came here with my family in June 2011 and 8 months later I am still craving the food from Tusker House. We went for an early dinner and beat the crowd. The variety of food was great and my children loved the pb& j bar, something different than the chicken nuggets and burgers they kept ordering everywhere else. Make sure you leave room for the delicious deserts!

  6. We were there in October 2011 and the least I can say is that we LOVE LOVE LOVE Tusker House! Great food, fantastic service, and the location can’t be beat! Even for a busy day at the park we only waited MAYBE 15 minutes before being seated for lunch, WITHOUT A RESERVATION!! It is quickly becoming mine and my husband’s favorite place to stop in the Animal Kingdom. Makes that park that much more enjoyable! 🙂

  7. Loved Tusker House lunch this past Decembe(2011). Character interaction was great and we saw 2 of them twice. Lunch buffet was delicious with many options. The picture guy never came around with our picture with Donald though we asked several times. Overall a great meal!

  8. We have always liked Akershus for the Princess Breakfast. My 7 year old insists we go there on each visit. This trip we decided to try both Akershus and Tusker House. We were all pleasantly surprised. The food was amazing, service was great and we all had a fantastic time. Even the little princess told us she preferred Tusker House to Akershus!

  9. This place was great! We ate there during Christmas week of 2011 for lunch. It was busy but we had a reservation and was seated close to our time. The kids got there picture with Donald while we waited and Daisy/Mickey and Goofy visited while we ate. The food was very different but tasty. All our kid age 16/12/10 and 8 left there very full. You have to try one of everything. It was a nice place to relax after the safari trip! Hands down better than the Rainforest!

  10. This is my mother-in-law’s #1 pick for breakfast. She is a big Daisy Duck fan and this is the best place to see her. I love the rich and varied breakfast menu. They have unusual items that are very good, but different from the usual eggs/sausage/pancakes/waffle offerings. The juice is also very good. They call it Jungle Juice. The atmosphere seems more relaxed than some of the other character meals. The cast members are always very solicitous and make sure we get to see every character. One particular trip we arrived soaking wet from an early morning rain shower. I wasn’t sure I even wanted to get out of the car to fight the weather all the way back to Tuskar House. But when I got there I was glad I had braved the storm.
