5 Senses at Disney World: My Top Picks

Disney World is a treat for the entire body.  Every sense is entertained, with purpose, by the Imagineers at Disney.  Today I am breaking down my top picks for the pleasing of the senses as Disney World.  I am forcing myself to write the first thing that comes to mind.  By the time this is published and you are reading it, I probably would have different choices.  But for now, this is what I am thinking of as I sit behind a computer, facing the start of a very busy school year, and missing the parks like nobody’s business.  Here’s what I would like to experience with my five sense at Disney

Touch

I’ve always been a “toucher” I can remember getting fussed at as a  child for putting my hands on every piece of clothing on the round displays.  I like to feel the differences in texture, compare the materials, and explore possibilities.  It should come at no surprise that I am a HUGE Disney “toucher”.  Now, before you click off of this page, hear me out…

I am obsessed with interactive queues.  Seriously.  I go through them every single time I ride.  I love writing on the honey wall at The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh ride.  I’ve been known to spend 20 minutes in an utterly empty queue as other park guests watched Wishes!.  I do it for the honey wall.  I love all the other interactive queue stuff too!  If you haven’t checked out these queues you really should!

Sight

First thing that comes to mind for this is Cinderella Castle.  Today I am going to push myself to think of another sight that I’d call a top pick.  And I’ll go with the first glimpse of the parks.  The famous entry sign, flanked by Minnie and Mickey.  I have seen it tons of times, but there isn’t a time that I see this beloved welcome that I don’t tear up and hold my breath!  It never gets old!

Smell

I love the smell of the cinnamon glazed nuts (found at snack carts throughout the parks).  I’ve been tempted by them many times.  They just smell so cozy and safe.  They smell like a beautiful night at the Magic Kingdom.  I have to admit that while I like the taste, the smell far outweighs it.  The same thing happens with me and funnel cakes/elephant ears.  I get that paper cone and set to task eating them only to say out loud (every time) “these smelled so much better than they taste!”.  Oh well, I wouldn’t trade that smell for anything!

Taste

If you read my posts a lot, I bet you think I’m going to say the Premium Mickey bar.  Okay, I’m entirely predictable.  I can’t resist the creamy, cold, thick coated, chocolate devoted, homage to the mouse.  I don’t think I would trade that taste for anything else in the parks.  I am obsessed.  If you haven’t had this sense experience, then do yourself a favor and have about 30 next time you are Disney World (you know, to make up for lost time).

Sound

The sound I crave the most (at this moment) is the sound of the narration and music from Spaceship Earth.  There is just something about that trusted stand by of a ride that makes me really feel like I’m at Disney.  I love that I have heard it so many times, I often say it out loud (but not loud enough to ruin it for anyone else).   I am going to go watch it on Youtube now!  And, just because I feel like it is necessary, “remember how easy it was to learn your ABC’s?  Thank the Phonecians…they invented them!”

What are your gut reactions when asked to list your touch, sight, smell, taste, and sound for Disney World.  Are any of ours the same?  List your sensational favorites in the comment section below!

As always, thanks for reading!

  1. Touch – walls. It sounds silly, but I love to feel the different textures of the walls, especially when the walls are supposed to look like rock or wood and when you touch them, you find that they are not what they appear to be.

Sight – Fantasmic! I tear up every time I see that show.

Smell – Main Street – There is something about the candy store and the bakery and popcorn all rolled into one that tells me that I am home.

Taste – Cupcakes – I recently visited Starring Rolls for the first time, and I can’t wait until the next time I go back and get the chance to have one of those delicious cupcakes again.

Sound – The Future World music at Epcot. You hear if from the time you walk into the park, and then lose it somewhere on the way to the World Showcase without even noticing, but I love that music.

  2. Two of my favorite smells are located in Epcot. The first one is during Spaceship Earth, when Rome is burning. I love that fire smell. The second one is during Soarin’. I love the smell during the ocean scenes. That is my favorite smell in all of Disney.
