Wheelchair Friendly Attractions – it’s a small world

“it’s a small world” has always been one of my favorite attractions at Walt Disney World. I love the classic feeling, the message, and yes, even the song. Another reason is because it is a wheelchair friendly attraction.

The queue was recently refurbished making it even better. Originally wheelchairs entered through the exit. It was always difficult trying to maneuver through the guests exiting, especially if it was crowded. Now there is a separate entrance making things a lot easier. It is located on the right side of the attraction near the exit.

Once of the best parts is that there is a special boat that allows you to stay in your wheelchair so you don’t have to worry about transferring. Just let the Cast Member know that you prefer to stay in your chair. Sometimes you have to wait a little while for the boat to cycle through but its usually not very long. The boat is easy to access. You just roll into the boat and then down between the seats.

The Cast Members then place a larger rubber bumper behind your wheels to stabilize the chair. Its a very smooth ride but sometimes the boats can get backed up towards the end of the ride and bump into one another but its not really anything to worry about.

One thing to be aware of is that there is an incline when you are trying to back out of the boat once the ride is over. I have pretty good upper body strength but I still needed a little help.
