One of the biggest highlights four me over the past year or so has been Boom! Studios’ Disney Afternoon Comic series’. The three series they have been producing include ‘Darkwing Duck’, ‘Ducktales’, and ‘Chip and Dale: Rescue Rangers’, all of which have been continuations of the original cartoon series. But now that Disney and Marvel have merged together, Disney has decided to cut ties with Boom! Studios, and for now, puts the future of the Disney Afternoon Series in uncertainty. But Boom! didn’t want to end these series without, well a boom, frankly. So to end both the Ducktales and Darkwing Duck titles, they’re ending both with a four part crossover!

Both series had always been linked together by the sidekick Launchpad McQuack, but neither series had crossover over together until now. Witness Drake Mallard and Scrooge McDuck, together for the first time together, as well as Huey, Dewey and Louie with Gozlan and Honker, in a four issue spanning adventure. This is something I’ve always wanted to see, and I’m really excited about this.

Starting with ‘Ducktales’ issue #5, the crossover, titled ‘Dangerous Currency’, will see the characters of the Disney Afternoon universe together for the first time together. The run will span over ‘Darkwing Duck” #17, ‘Ducktales’ #6, and ‘Darkwing Duck’ #18. When these are finished being sold off, that will be the end of both series, and could be the end all together of the Disney Afternoon series. Which really is a bit disheartening. Reactions to both series have been unanimously praised, so I feel like it would be a bad idea for Disney not to continue on with both of the titles at Marvel. Only time will tell what if we’ll see the continuing adventures of these characters, which I hope we will. But for now, find your local comic book shop and pick up these last four issues, which is one of the most exciting crossover events that’s been created. Enjoy it until the end, and let me know what you guys think in the comments below. Are you sad to see both of these titles coming to an end? And would you want to see Marvel pick them up? Or do you think ending on a crossover is the way to go? I’d love to hear from you.

Elmer, I was hoping for that as well. If Marvel continues the Disney Afternoon, I’m really hoping they’ll commission that to series. Only time will tell. :) Thanks for checking out the article!
