If you are fan of Disney Parks you have probably seen the descriptions or heard someone describe the stage shows as “Broadway-style”.  The idea of a stage production with the pomp and eloquence of a Broadway show emotes professionalism, attention to detail, and talent.  If “Aladdin” in Disneyland or “Beauty & the Beast” in Disney’s Hollywood Studios impress you, you will find yourself more than blown away with the Disney on Broadway productions in New York City.

The wildly successful ‘Beauty & the Beast’ closed in 2007, and both ‘Tarzan’ and ‘The Little Mermaid’ closed as well although they toured the U.S for a while.  Remaining are ‘The Lion King‘ and ‘Mary Poppins‘.  The websites have a plethora of information including information about The Lion King’s North American Tour & the Las Vegas show, as well as Mary Poppins London shows!  If you find yourself in the New York City area, or live here and have been put off as yet, don’t be deceived by the ‘Disney’ name- these are amazing feats of theatrical artistry!

A few tips:

  • If you are looking for last minute tickets OR would like to try and find discounts, check out www.BroadwayBox.com- this seems to be the best Broadway discount round-up site! Also, if you are a Disney Visa cardholder, check your rewards site because they offer discounts occasionally!
  • Be aware that drinks, snacks, and lot of souvenirs will be available so get to the show early to allow plenty of time to settle (and use the bathrooms)! As with most plays, the crowds will be crazy at intermission!
  • As a lifelong New Yorker I always find myself disappointed when I see people coming to Broadway shows the way they would head out to see a movie, so my best tip is to make a day of it! Throw on your Sunday best, eat somewhere along the way, and do it up- you are in the most magical and wonderful city in the world, after all!
  • And if you live in the northeast, don’t forget that Papermill Playhouse will be featuring Newsies this fall! Papermill has done other Disney productions in the past, like High School Musical.

We saw Lion King on Broadway about 8 years ago, and it was AMAZING.  One of the best Broadway shows I have ever seen (second only to a one man show by Patrick Stewart of A Christmas Carol).  I highly recommend it!  Fabulous.
