Anonymouse Disney Confidential: Goodbye, Mission Tortilla Factory!

Hey there guys and gals. It’s Anonymouse here with some tasty gossip for you this Memorial Day Weekend.

Apparently there are reports that the Mission Tortilla Factory at California Adventure will be closing super duper soon in order to make way for…. *drumroll* GHIRARDELLI CHOCOLATE FACTORY. According to Disneyland Today (@DLtoday on Twitter) Monday (May 30) will be the final day to get your freshly made tortilla samples from the factory.

I’ll miss my free tortillas, even if they were corn the majority of the time I paid the factory a visit. (I’m more of a flour tortilla kind of gal.) I am excited about chocolate, though. Chocolate and diamonds are all a girl needs, especially when the chocolate is Ghirardelli.

That is all the time I have for today. See you kiddies next time.

Got any good rumors?  Please email me at AnonyMouse@chipandco.com on my Facebook Page.

Disney Store plans to open its interactive concept stores in more than 40 locations in 2011 the company announced today at the Global Retail Real Estate Convention (RECon) in Las Vegas, NV. Building on the successful launch of the innovative design in 2010 and fueled by demand from retail property owners eager to bring the one-of-a-kind shopping destination to their centers, Disney Store will continue to expand its presence across the world. By the end of 2011, the specialty retailer will have 60 new concept stores in 16 major markets in North America and eight countries.

In spring 2012, the original Disney Store location at the Glendale Galleria in Glendale, Calif., will be remodeled to celebrate the retail chain’s 25th anniversary. First built in 1987, the store pioneered the entertainment retail concept. The Glendale store will be just one of many planned remodels in 2012 delivering “the best 30 minutes of a child’s day.”

“The excitement from our guests has been phenomenal and we’re working diligently to open more locations in new markets,” said Paul Gainer, senior vice president, Disney Store North America. “We want to give landlords a new retail experience that will drive return visits to their malls and give families the opportunity to experience the Disney Store magic in their local community.”

New and remodeled Disney Store locations to open throughout the fall and winter of 2011 include:

  • Disney Store’s Florida Mall location in Orlando will be remodeled this fall with the new design, and Pembroke Lakes Mall in Pembroke Pines, FL will open an all-new location.
  • Locations in Canada’s West Edmonton Mall in Edmonton, Alberta and Southcentre Mall in Calgary will open this fall.
  • Kenwood Towne Center in Cincinnati will receive the first newly-designed Disney Store in the state of Ohio.
  • Texas will celebrate the opening of Disney Store locations at La Plaza mall in McAllen, and Houston Galleria in Houston.
  • The first newly-designed Disney Store in Missouri will open at the St. Louis Galleria.
  • California will get two new locations this fall with stores opening in the Galleria at Roseville in Roseville, CA and Westfield Fashion Square in Sherman Oaks, CA.

In very cool geek news. Disney releases Tactile Brush. What is that you ask? It is an algorithm that produces smooth, two-dimensional tactile moving strokes with varying frequency, intensity, velocity and direction of motion. The design of the algorithm is derived from the results of psychophysical investigations of two tactile illusions — apparent tactile motion and phantom sensations.

Combined together they allow for the design of high-density two-dimensional tactile displays using sparse vibrotactile arrays. In a series of experiments and evaluations we demonstrate that Tactile Brush is robust and can reliably generate a wide variety of moving tactile sensations for a broad range of applications.

Engaget had this to say:

In a presumed effort to one-up those “4D” chairs used at Shrek’s castle down in Orlando, the company has been working on what it calls Tactile Brush — a chair with an array of 12 vibrating coils that are able to simulate anything from the sensation of speeding around a race track to the delicate drip of rain on your back. Two techniques are used: apparent motion, which triggers two motors in quick succession to create the illusion of something moving over your skin, and phantom sensation, in which two stationary vibrations are felt as a single tingle between the two points.

Disney researchers demoed Tactile Brush at the Conference on Human Factors in Computing Systems in Vancouver using a racing game, but hope to bring it to amusement park rides and movie theaters

Very cool!
