What do glow sticks, a shoe organizer, and ziploc bags have in common?  They’re all on my packing list for Disney.  Packing for Walt Disney World can be time consuming, stressful, and inevitably you’ll end up forgetting something. After all, it rains in Florida, you never know when you’ll need a ziploc bag, and glow sticks can be life savers.  Aside from the obvious sunscreen, basic medical items, and comfortable shoes, there are some items you won’t want to be without.  So, today I want to share with you 10 Things You NEED to Pack for Disney.

1.  Glow sticks.  You can pick these up at the Dollar Store, and they are so fun for the kids!  My daughter will be using a “wand” that glows during the light parades, as well as her Minnie Mouse light up toy we bought her on our last trip.  You can also get glow bracelets, necklaces, and “swords” to entertain your kids while waiting for the fireworks or night shows.

2.  An over the door shoe organizer.  This was an absolute MUST on our last trip!  When I returned home, I let it air out for a few days, folded it back up, and put it in our suitcase for our next trip.  This was AWESOME to put toiletries, extra shoes, and odds and ends in while in our resort.  We hung it over our bathroom door, and I can’t tell you how great it was!  We often take a few pairs of shoes for each family member, and the closet fills up fast.  Also, the counter in the bathroom was less cluttered because our sunscreen, deodorant, and other larger toiletry items were in here.

3.  Ponchos.  Do not, I repeat, DO NOT go to Disney without ponchos.  Secondly, do NOT buy them at the parks.  Why?  First, it rains often in Florida, and you’ll be glad you brought your own.  The ones at the Disney parks are expensive {which we found out the hard way}, and we ended up throwing them away at the end of our trip.  You can get some in the camping section of your local store or at the Dollar Store as well.  If you don’t need them to cover up, they cover strollers well if it looks like it’s going to rain when you’re heading into an attraction or restaurant.

4.  Ziploc bags.  I use these for a lot of things at Disney.  I put extra clothes in them for our daughter, wet socks if the boys step in puddles, and even make one for a bag of snacks while in the parks.  I’ve even heard of some moms who pack the gallon ones with an outfit a day for their kids, making getting ready in the morning a breeze.

5.  Dish soap.  Those refillable mugs can usually use a good cleaning during your trip.  Not to mention the sippy cups, bottles, or Brita water bottles you’ve brought along.

6.  Moleskin.  I never knew what this was until recently.  It’s to prevent blisters on your feet, and it’s awesome!  You’ll want to throw this in your toiletry bag, as well as your park bag, to keep it handy.

7.  Crystal Light packets or other drink enhancers.  Many quick service locations and food carts will give you a glass of ice water for free.  But it honestly doesn’t taste that good.  So we make sure to bring some flavor enhancers to mix in the water.  It makes it so much better.

8.    Tide to Go or other stain remover.  Even if I can’t get to the stain right away, at least I can give my best shot when I return to the resort.  Ketchup, Mickey Shaped Ice Cream Bars, and other treats can easily stain your clothes.  I hate to come home with ruined clothes, when I could’ve treated the stain right then.

9.  Night light.  We have recently started taking these on our trips.  It’s nice because then you don’t have to leave the bathroom light on at night so you have some light.  Our kids are used to sleeping with a little bit of light, and these do the trick.  They also don’t take up any room in your luggage.

10.  Disposable plates, utensils, and cups.  Why?  Well, if you’re like us, you eat a meal or two in your resort room.  Or, if you get your meals “to go” from the QSD location at your resort, you might forget to grab those important items on your way back to your room.

So, what did I leave off the list?  I’m sure there is a MYRIAD of items that everyone considers a “must pack” for Disney.  I hope you’ll add some of these items to your packing list on you next trip!

  1. another thing I used ziploc bags for on our first trip-tip from my travel planner-take them to buffets-especially breakfast ones that have fruit and danishes-kids don’t finish everything they get and you can put them in zip loc bags and take them with you for later-apples and bananas are a great snack later in the morning

  2. I use ziplock bags to put my wallet and phone in, to keep it dry in case of rain or water ride.

Also, a flashlight…nothing worse than being in a hotel and having a power outage…they don’t take up too much space, and give peace of mind.
